Can you please be a little more attentive to this stuff?

First up, let me preface this by stating that I'm someone who actually likes the game, I have a lifetime sub, and am happy that i have that, since I know more stuff is on the way. Moreover, I've been pretty impressed with Cryptic on the whole, especially given the time constraints the devs were and indeed still are quite obviously under. I will say that Cryptic could perhaps be a little more communicative on these forums in relation to that, but only because it would highlight that they are evidently on the case, as evidenced by the fixes and tweeks we can see happening. Now, on to a minor complaint...

I just did the 'The Tribble with Klingons' mission, which is an okay mission, not one of the greatest in the game, but not bad all the same, so imagine my dismay when I came across Gregory Cyrano Jones in the lab at the end of this mission. Maybe it's just me, but I suspect not, in thinking that a relative of Cyrano Jones ought to have looked at least a little bit like the guy from the original series, and at the very least be the same race. You guys have a very flexible character creation system, in fact it is one of the game's strong points, so why not use it? To not do so struck me as an opportunity missed, and it's not the only time this has happened, I had the same disappointment when Mudd came up in the comm window, looking nothing remotely like Roger C. Carmel, who so wonderfully filled the role of Harry Mudd in the original Star Trek series, and reprised the role for the animated Adventures too. But back with tribbles...

The larger than life character Cyrano Jones, beautifully portrayed by Stanley Adams in the original Trouble with Tribbles episode of TOS, is, like Mudd, one of the iconic characters of Star Trek, not only that, Adams actually co-wrote the TOS episode 'The Mark of Gideon' with George F. Slavin, so he deserves to be honoured in the game. Adams was pleased enough with his portrayal, as evidently was script-editor DC Fontana, to reprise the role in the animated Adventures of Star Trek for the episode 'More Trouble with Tribbles', which writer David Gerrold, submitted as a sequel to his original Tribble episode for the third series of TOS. That episode was rejected by TOS third season producer Fred Freiberger for TOS, but gained a reprieve from DC Fontana for the Animated adventures, thus prompting Adams' revisit to the role in a similar fashion to Roger C. Carmel when he voiced Mudd in animated form as well.

These are iconic characters in Star Trek, and they deserve more than boring randomly generated characters when their descendants show up in STO. Please pay attention to this stuff, because when you don't, it just looks like you don't give a toss, and I know that's not true.

I'm not really sure (been a while since I've done the 'Tribble with Klingons' episode), but I think he was just named after Cyrano Jones, and not a descendant of him. (Again, I could be wrong (and often am lol) about that.)

Even if he was, it's been about 140 years or so since the events of TOS, so it's possible, through inter-species breeding (iirc, the Jones in the game is an Andorian?), that his descendant wouldn't look like the original character.

Regarding Mudd, however, I have to agree with you.

He does say in the in game conversation that he is a relative, but that aside, I realise there could have been 'new blood' in the family, and perhaps even from different races. But the point is that it was a reference to the original, and just seemed a lazy one at that.

If Cryptic are going to tip their hats to iconic characters, they should at least do it in a more sympathetic fashion. After all, even JJ Abrams was smart enough to have his movie characters bear a passing resemblance to the TOS originals, since he knew that a nod to them would be appreciated.

Oh, okay. In that case, I can agree with you on the Jones part, as well. I'm reminded of when they had a placeholder for Naomi Wildman during beta (she was an old, male Trill  ). I do remember when I did that mission that I thought something similar (about how Jones' descendant didn't look anything like the TOS character), so I can see where you're coming from.
