The game is fine just the way it is. Please post here if you do not want a death penalty.

In fact I apprecate the novel approach that is being taken in the game. Why should this look like every other MMO on the street? That was one of my biggest fears when it came out and I am happy that has not proven to be the case.
I prefer to see consequences in the decisions I make in STO. there should definately be a DP. It would make things waaaayy more interesting. It needs to be the right DP though, taking away ships, money or XP isnt the right way to go.
Can I assume you are one of those players who wants to see this game fail?
A little too late for that. The difficulty of this game is an absolute joke. Entire fleets are leaving. A death penalty is only one of the many things this game needs.
No death penalty until deep space encounters are fixed. And NEVER in PvP.
If you NEED a death penalty, it should be the honor system. Do whatever unspeakable things that you want to do to yourself in the comfort of your own home.

I agree with this. Any death penalty should wait until some of the missions don't consist of dozens of deaths and retries to complete.
And of course, PvP is subject to far too much griefing no matter how you balance it. So there should never be a death penalty in PvP in any game. That's just common sense.

which mmo's have you played that the leveling pve was ever hard?
most mmo's the leveling content is so easy that a bot can do it. or you can semi afk.
i guess you could auto attack most of the ships in teh early ranks while semi afk. but it would take alot longer.
This and this whole thread are funny considering the pages after pages of threads wanting this.
the longest oldest thread in the SUBSCRIBER ONLY sections of these forums is on the second page for the second time today.
and in every thread wanting this there are many players saying they don't want DPs, not just a few vocal posters.
so a vocal minority want DPs. another vocal minority does not want DPs. some of the people in both camps have agreed on a compromise: encounter resets.
tonight i did an ingame survey in a few sector blocks zone chat. only 4 people responded in a single zone. they all wanted DPs ranging from perma BO death, to 10% EC loss. one person said 10% EC loss was outrageous.
A mandatory death penalty doesn't make bad players better, it just makes them cowards. It doesn't make the game more challenging, just more tedious. The best players I've encountered all pretty much just ignore death penalties altogether, because they're driven more by the desire to take risks and to succeed against all odds than by the fear of losing.
But if you absolutely have to have a DP, let's not settle for any of the lame, unimaginative, and ultimately inconsequential MMO tropes. I have yet to see an MMO where mission failure is a real possibility, and, for my money, that's the only DP that doesn't come across as a tacked-on, poorly considered, artificial hack.
Having said that, I'd support an option whereby each player can voluntarily set his or her own DP, but this mandatory universal DP idea is just a 15+ year old relic whose time has passed.

The game needs some sort of death penalty, get over it. Maybe keep the death penalty off in PVP, but PVE YES. If you are unable to survive in this simple game you may need to play Tic Tac Toe online.
Agreed, death penalty is useless and just downtime. What everyone should help out in is suggesting new content ideas... after all how often does anyone even die?

No to the death penalty. If a death penalty was put into place, many people will leave in hordes.

You know what they say about assumptions...
But no. Me having a differing opinion than you does not mean I want the game to fail. Bit melodramatic, don't you think?

Having said that; the game is too easy - that means you get a lot of people finding creative ways to grief people like with self-destruct.
PS Thanks for making another thread about it though.

WHAT DP are you talking about? I didnt know there was one.
Above all no death penalty in PvP.
