The March 1st countdown thread

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Only eight more days to go and we can all start waving goodbye to the people who like to clutter up the forums with "I Quit" threads. :)

Edit: I realize that not all of them will be gone on exactly the 1st day, but March is the start of the period where people's free thirty days are up.

Its not a good idea to wish away part of a customer base. Do it often enough and your own enjoyment of the product will begin to be affected. The magic of an MMO is eroded when there's little amount of people left who enjoy it. You're just left wondering "what went wrong?" when you were given the answer at the start, but refused to acknowledge it.

I'm betting that Cryptic doesn't feel the same as you OP because they know that for each "I quit" theres a possible and noticable drop in subscription levels.

Sadly some of those are paid for my Cryptic and Atari. So we won't see a total end of those.

Let me be th e first to point out that we got a free 30 days to play. February only has 28 days this year. So since that game came out on the 2nd, March 1st will not be the end of that free 30 days. All of that assumes the people who post "I Quit!" actually do quit and got their copy of the game on release day.

The real countdown will be the April 1st when we all discover how many of them were just playing April Fools pranks on us, and are still here (for better or worse) =)

    1 - Star Trek rules

    2 - Star Trek rules

3 - This game is going to keep improving as long as its potential to create ridiculous amounts of revenue remains

    thus:

a - don't sell any more lifetime subs... you need constant revenue to make an MMO worth your investment.
b - add a modding API to take advantage of a vibrant community of intelligent trek-loving-geeks such as myself and many others who want this game to be awesome for our own selfish reasons.
c - Make the content challenging, compelling, and fun in both gameplay and lore. It'll be worth your while (cite suggestion 'a')

<3 Cryptic for making this game. I'm rooting for you.

Oh please. No one here is saying the game is perfect and every one of us who likes it have stated that there are things that need to be improved. But starting "I quit" threads and trolling every thread with the same garbage is not productive in any which way shape or form. Those type of people are NEVER helpful to any gaming community and that is why I along with many others will be glad to see them gone.

Many of these people's complaints have to do with the basic design of the game, which is NEVER going to change. So if you hate instances or if not having arrows pointing you everywhere makes the game too complicated for you then I'd say it's time to go play another game and stop whining about things that can't be changed.

As if GO AWAY threads are helpful? And most people's complaints are legit and right on, this game is rancid at best, the lore is junk, the game play is junk. So I just love how someone starts a thread saying basically get lost losers then claims his post is somewhat contributing more to the forums or Cryptic in some way LOL

First of all my 30 days end on March 5th. So even if I don't stick around ill be here for 5 extra days to spam /rage quit threads. Also cryptic gave everyone a free 5day buddy key thing. Makes me wonder if so many people have already stopped playing that they are getting worried. I be this game fails in the first year.

Personally, it won't bother me to stop seeing all the whining threads on here. Don't see the point of the "I quit threads" anyway. It's like those people have some "need" to let the world know they are quitting the game. I could care less. Quit and be done with it. I don't need to see a thread about it.

Well that is a problem then because we post all of the "I quit threads" specifically for you and you alone, geez what were we thinking!! :(

Seriously these threads are for Cryptic nothing spells disaster more then a million I quit threads to a MMO that is banking on monthly sub's. If even half the people who actually say it, do it then its a huge loss. Again take Warhammer for example, 1 mill subs sold 800k (rough number estimate but ive seen similar numbers in interviews) quit in less then a year, they fired the lead designer and co-founder of Mythic within the first year.

I think people need to spam this stuff and I think people should quit when the product promised is a complete travesty.

I don't either . When I stopped playing SWG, Warhammer and World of Warcraft, I didn't act like a drama queen on their boards. I didn't post "I quit" or "This game sucks" because that would have been rude for the people who were sticking with those games. I know that when you create a community for gamers, that you have to sometimes deal with immaturity, but it gets old after awhile.

While it will be good to see the blatant trolls go, the genuine critics do have valid points. However, theyre trying to demand the problems the game has, (and there are many) be fixed almost immediately. this is impossible to do.

Thats why by its very nature, mmo's have continued development to alleviate these issues, and refine the game. Trying to demand it be fixed by release is pointless. Developers have deadlines to meet from the IP holder (CBS), and also need to prioritise any bugs for fixing. If a big bug crops up while theyre fixing a few smaller ones, guess which one takes preference to fix ( unless the small ones take 1-2 mins to code).

This is not a flame, but the trolls need to get some perspective here. The genuine critics do have said perspective, but a lot of them are bordering on trolling.

What you have to understand is not the title, but the REASON why people are posting.
They are trying to express themselves in the only way they know in a hope that the devs will listen.
Whether or not the devs DO listen is not for anyone other than the devs to decide.

If you do not like the threads, don't read them.
Creating a thread to complain about the complainers just as useless as an incoherent rant that provides no justification for its existence.
They feel that they have a right to tell Cryptic what they think. And they do. So what if they want everyone else to hear it. It doesn't change anything and it doesn't diminish your reasons for liking the game.

Hell.. people can complain and post as many I QUIT topics they like. As long as they give some genuine feedback on their way out instead of insulting everyone and throwing wild accusations.

Uhm Warhammer was a flop of immense proportion and their forums were full of exactly what STO is going through, I was in that beta and played that game for 8 months before they sent me packing as well. That aside Warhammer makes STO look like TRIBBLE. Warhammer had content and at least had an end game to it although the end game was bad.

Outside of Warhammer, WoW was a great game for a long time you can't compare the two as well as SWG did well for a long time. You are comparing games that were successful to this failure.

And I am just curious did you ever stop those games 2-4 weeks after release? I highly doubt it, I bet you played wow for years, so im not sure why you are comparing these games to STO.

That's not the issue. These people aren't posting anything of substance. Just saying "this game sucks... I'm quitting." Seriously, why bother? And you don't have to read the thread to see space being taking up just by having the title of the post there. Waste of bandwidth... nothing more.

Lol. yeah, true. There will always be reasons to quit and always be people who feel the need to tell everyone about it. That's just how life is.

Why does it matter so much if these people post such threads?
Do you feel it somehow cheapens your reasons for being a subscriber? I hope not.
You think the space being taken up is a premium on a forum? Seriously?
Waste of bandwidth? Well, that's subjective.

These people feel the need to express themselves. Which they have a right to. However, that doesn't automatically mean that people need to take them seriously if they fail to express themselves in a mature and civilised manner.

The simple fact is, its their right to post threads of relevance. Just as its the Mods rights to close them :)
It shouldn't bother you that these people post, it should only really bother you if they aren't moderated properly. Even then, thats between Cryptic mods and the person who's posted. Not you or I.

I would say its more like a privilege and not a right to post on the forums. All the rights are with Cryptic. But yeah best way to deal with any kind of abuse or insult filled posts is to hit report button.

I didn't start this thread to complain about the complainers. I started it so we could all wave goodbye to them. It's simply a countdown thread. But since you and some others decided to chime in, it's starting to turn into something else.

Far as your "don't read them", well it's kind of hard to read anything else when they continue to bump them and other negative threads to the top while pushing more important threads down.So long as they continue to do that you are going to have those of us giving our opinions on that type of behavior. Just because you are a paying customer doesn't mean you have the right to be a troll or act like a drama queen. It also doesn't mean you have the right to never be challenged by what you are saying. This isn't mmorpg.com.
