This is just a simple post to see who out there is planning on playing STO for a long time (longer than 1 year)?
Please also let me know what your current subscription is...lifetime, month to month, etc...
I am soon going to get a lifetime sub soon and am trying to ease my own mind that STO wo't be a ghosttown in a year or so.
Thank you to everyone who answers and hope to see everyone in space soon
Even though this game is still suffering from glitches such as server disconnects. I am still going to stick around for a couple of years. Or until Star Wars: The Old Republic is released. Don't get me wrong, I like this game.
at this point I plan to be here for a long time, but the reality of it is, no one knows what the future holds, so we will see what happens, and I am paying monthly sub, personally not to big on the life time sub idea.
If you're not sure, and the money is a significant amount to you, then I would recommend not getting it. I think it's mostly there for people that think $300 is nothing more than a night out.
I'll play STO till they close the servers down. This is a really good game, and after it's grown and developed some more, its going to be a great game.
That depends on Cryptic. There isn't enough to do in the game to keep anyone sane playing for longer than a few months at most. They'll have to add quite a lot in order for anyone to actually play it for a year or more.
Depends, they have to pull thier finger out before they lose alot of thier player base. Even at the moment it sometimes takes a while to get into a pvp ground.

so you are asking about the Gods of War hey ? lol I Am the Allfather, and in Paradise My first children will be the Old Gods again ! For now, in this Life, I don't know if I will meet the Aesir, but do know I am made Leader of the Wolfpack in the beginning of Times.
This game is nice, very nice, but I can't help noticing I bring more time on the website then in the game, why is this ?
I Am the First Shaman, the shaman who takes action.
I am not going to show blind devotion to this game, but I do like it a good deal. As long as the devs keep adding things and expanding the games' content, I'll keep playing. But if they take advantage of the IP and get lazy/greedy, I'm gone.
Lifer here, too. I don't see any flaws in this game that I haven't seen in nearly a dozen other MMOs I've played, ranging from Launch+30 days, to years into development.

I'll be here until they close the doors. Why? Because this game is nothing like any other out there. MMO's are cookie cutters of the last one and this one actually has some original elements to it. I could only find one MMO similar in nature to this one and it's Pirates of the Burning Sea (in terms of the combat).
I see a lot of potential for this game where others see what's in front of them now, or what they saw in beta. I know that a few months from now this game will be even better than it is now, and that we'll have a ton of new content. Look at what they've already started adding with the new episodes, "raidisodes", etc.
The only thing that could tear me away from this game is a CU/NGE from Cryptic. Those of you who know what I'm talking about can relate.
Now all that said... I grabbed a Lifetime and am glad I did. I'll be getting at the very least 16 months out this game and then some (for possibly many years to come).
I plan to be playing the game for at least a couple years. The game has its share of faults, but I enjoy it. It fits very much into my play style. If it had a comprehensible skill tree, more character slots, and some better uniform options, the game would fit ideally into my play style.
I plan on playing it casually for as long as the game stays up.
Once in awhile when a new game comes out, I'll play it for awhile, but Star Trek Online will be my fallback position whenever I'm looking to just have some fun.
I've been taking my time so far, playing just a couple hours a day across three different characters. My highest is currently a Lieut Commander 2.
I plan to play this a long time if there is new content and there will be great pvp playing later on, when more klingons rank up. I have to Admiral caracters 1 join trill tactical and 1 libarated Borg science. There should be great content comming. not missions like the arcade missions that is in the game now. I dident buy life time to play PVE against ships and soldiers with super life and shilds etc.
I will be here at least a year souly to see what improvements they make. So far, the big things I want done are more customization, better auto fire in space, and ship interiors. All things that the devs have said recently we'll eventualy get. (hopefully sooner rather than later). If they put those things in, I'll be here a good long time.

I bought a lifetime so I will be here till the servers are shut down.
I intend to be here (relatively) until the servers are taken offline for good, however many years in the future that may be.
Bought a lifetime sub because I didn't want the hassle of monthly billing AND because I believe that Cryptic will continue to build the game out over the coming months/years.
I have no reason to believe this game will not be vibrant and teeming with people in the coming years.
It *IS* Star Trek, after all, and no matter how many times it gets panned or no matter how many people think it may be unfinished now, if they're Star Trek fans, they'll still get the itch to try it again eventually.
the lifetime subscribers of course, they were fooled and dont want to admit it (*hides from lifesubragers*)
Since most people probably went through a value judgement of some sort before making the leap to purchase the lifetime subscription, it makes perfect sense that we think the game will last the longest. If we didn't we wouldn't have bought them!
Being "fooled" has nothing to do with it, unless I can borrow your time machine.
Personally, I'll only need to play the game for approximately 3 months before I've saved money versus playing the MMO I usually played, and if I cashed out of that other MMO and requested to convert my in-game currency back to dollars, I'd probably receive a check for an amount equal to or greater than the entire cost of the lifetime sub anyway.
I just essentially converted from one game to another. Already a win for me.
As long as content is added (not just missions, but real Gameplay environment...giving us complete functioning Starship interiors with game purpose would be a key) then I plan on being around for a long, long, long time.

I just pray Cryptic doesn't listen to the EVE refugees.
