I sure do.
Never heard it before I started using these forums to figure out some complexities of the game.
Now can't seem to escape it. Sure wish I could. Even notice it all the time in the in game chat. It has ecaped and roams the sectors at will. I doubt it can be stopped.
If I understand the meaning is is basically little more than a pointless insult meant to shut down any discussion with folks that commit the cardinal sin of enjoying the game. Not sure why that is anyone's goal.
Are there fangirls too? Dunno,

p.s. I find the game fun. I just dig manipulating some ST characters. Getting little bits of story line at a time and PVP using some fun sci fi tech. Not looking to live in there. Glitches and content limits do not overly concern me.

If you intend to argue with someone do so logically or at the very least with creative sardonic humor rather than relying on pat insults like 'troll' or 'faboy(i)'
Just like hater.
Both terms are just derogatory ways to belittle the other side.
Otherwise you are just a poor son of ..... who plays the game just to annoy people, and tell them that they have to hate it too ...
Proud fanboi of STO
Proud fanboi of WoW
Because I only play the best!
Its all a matter of perception and the word itself really doesn't mean anything to me. It certainly doesn't bother me if someone calls me one when I post something positive about the game. I wouldn't be here if I wasn't enjoying myself.
"Fanboi" descendant of "Fanboy" if I am not mistaken.
One question....why?
Was "Fanboy" considered too exclusive to the male gender and thus replaced with the phonetically identical but more gender neutral in spelling "Fanboi"?
Was there a typo made and like sheep, the masses simply followed suit in perpetuating a spelling mistake?
Thanks in advance, I just have to know.
Sure are! My GF for instance is a fangirl of Joss Whedon (and she will admit it always :P ) and Battlestar Galactica (the new one).
Imho the word is overused but not annoying or moronic. Is like "freak"; here in Spain people tend to use "freaky" in a despective way but since everybody is a freak of something i only have to show them that they are freaks of something too.
But I think both words mean almost the same. Almost.
A fanboy/fangirl will defend whatever the thing is blindly while a freak is extreme passion for something but being able to see the bad things in it.
My two cents ^_^
