"Publish now and patch later" just doesn't work for MMOs any more. Nothing they add from here on out will even remotely peak my interest, unless they go for a complete scrap and re-work. No crafting system at launch? You gotta be kidding me. Where's the Karazhan like place that me and 9 of my closest friends can beat our brains out for hours trying to figure out how to get past the second boss? The Borg are chumps, and I'm not doing endless, mindless exploration missions that I've already done ad nauseum just to purple out!
Absolutely beautiful graphics and art work don't make a long term survivable MMO. This game is GORGEOUS with all the bells and whistles turn on, but I've seen all the cool interiors and exteriors there are to see.
I had fun, but no one needs me

There's no role for me to play in any mission other than being more pew pew. If you are having trouble with a mission in this game, bring more pew pew and you'll win. You don't need a tank. You don't need a healer/CCer. Just bring another escort along and you'll be fine. This is supposed to be a MMORPG has ROLE in the middle of it after all. So we need to have more roles be needed other than more cannons.
This still isn't Star Trek. I can't talk to my BOs and they don't talk to me. I can't wander around my star ship. Federation officers willingly kill non-combatant doctors in this game! Where are the TRIBBLE? Only one dialogue choice is green, so when do I get to think outside the box? I can't build anything that lasts or has an effect on the game. I can't discover anything amazing that everyone else hasn't already discovered.
Every possible weapon is 10km long, and I can see everything that is trying to kill me and vice versa (cloaked ships aren't trying to kill me, yet). This means there are no tactics other than close and engage (I teach tactics for the Navy by the way).
This isn't an MMO. It's Space-ablo. Fully instanced means fully isolated from other people.
I had fun, but I feel like I just finished Mass Effect rather than enjoyed a Star Trek based MMO. CYA!

Personally I think they were never going for an RPG, but rather more of an MMO which is simply another word for server-centralized with teams... and that the roles are simply a system of doing things differently towards the same end...
I can't prove that, except to say that that is what they have... so I assume that is what they intended...
I really wish they would come out with a real vision statement and some more clear fundamental changes before good players (rather than bomb throwers and the like) keep walking....
They can plan and get feedback all they want, but those reviews on the internet aren't going to change....and that is what people will see for years to come ...
They simply need to start salvaging launch ASAP....
Goodbye and good luck to you ...
It's an interesting game with some unique concepts, but I don't feel like it is enough for me. But like I said I'll hang around for a few months, saying never before it is completely justified isn't my cup of tea.
this is a waste of time and u should be ashamed of yourselves STO SUX its dumb and if i wanted to play champions online i would have kept playing it.... U guys need to get a grip on life ... nobody buys ******** and i hope nobody hires you guys to create so much as an i phone application in the future bann me or whatever but as you read this i hope u realize ... that failure is what you losers deserve please dont make any other games ever And i will not buy any more of your bull TRIBBLE azz games.... god please dont let them make anything else.... for now im all blizzard and and anything else NEVR CRYPTIC .... YOU guys can go to hell
So in other words...never quitting, eh? :P
I was disappointed...
the miracle im hoping for will never happen though because the game is built around the terrible CO engine, the only thing that could save this game is a complete rebuild of the engine into something that produces a fun game.
they got it right with CoH but after selling it to NCsoft they had to make a new engine thats similar enough to be fun but different enough not to infringe on what they sold off, unfortunatly they failed
Last night, I came to the realization that it is too easy to get credits and stuff for anyone who plays this game, so I deleted both of my characters last night.
If I later decide to try Star Trek Online again before SWTOR comes out next year, I wouldn't mind starting over from scratch if this game changes and improves significantly. I would then be able to experience the changes and improvements as a new character.
This is something I criticized several times too but that's not a reason for me to quit because I think earlier or later Cryptic must change that.
It's a real bad situation for Cryptic: On the one hand a hard nerf for the escort class is unavoidable if STO should be a healthy MMOG, on the other hand most players are dps fixed escort players. Cryptic will loose many players with this nerf and I think they are shifting this nerf as long as possible but if they wait too long they will also loose many players, those who expect more than brainless pew pew.
Don't get out of patience. Latest with the introducing of the Raidisodes things will change. Raidisodes would make no sense if a bunch of 5 escort players could beat them.
February 30th?
I will give you a million dollars (of the currency of your choice... if you want it in yens or USD) for writing an obituary on Feburary 30th. Only on Feb 30th, though. March 1, 2, 3, or 4+ is not FEB 30.
boo hoo.....
boo hoo.............. "sniffle"
......
oh, ........
boo hoo...........
The Borg DSEs are almost all escorts now with a handful of science ships. It reminded me of a pack of pirranhas, and it took all of 30 seconds to kill 9 groups of Borg.
The Raidisodes are too late. I'm already done. I got the "You have reached the end of Star Trek Online" message when I warped out of the B'Tran Cluster for the fourth time.
So... whats youre alternate universe like? Do we have flying cars and aliens living among us? How did you end up with two extra days in February though?
The days of haphazard release and patch are over. Cryptic, you had your hands on THE franchise to make money with. You had your hands on the golden goose, the golden egg, you had it all.
This was the best you could come up with?
Well I must say, you got my 50.00. Congrats. Without a MAJOR overhaul of this duck you won't get another dime of mine.
Appears alot of your other customers are of a similar bent.
You pretty much nailed it. Sad to see a great IP really going to waste. Hopefully another company will realize that you have to take a risk to see a great return these days in the MMO market, but i really do not hold out much hope for the upcoming titles, outside of vivendi who has the cash cow of the industry.
STO is just another MMO that is going to suffer greatly in the next few billing cycles as people jump ship left and right. I really enjoyed the space combat per say, but the game become to trivial far to early. i am in the same boat, last few days all i do is the daily mission, then log out basically, or play my klingon with friends, once every few days.
Its really a shame, the game could have been so much more, but sadly the publisher and developer took the quickest, easiest way to a game, and it shows in how average this game is at best. I do not see this game being able to recover its soon to be vanishing subscriber base, because the tools are not there to do it. The player is so isolated that it does not even feel like a MMO, and the content is so trivial most of the time that you really have no sense of accomplishment or challenge at all.
I have no desire to see STO fail, or flop, sadly i think its relegated itself to the 100-200k subscriber range, within 3-6 months at most, and as such will not be able to afford the money it will need to create a great MMO. In addition, most of the people who gave the game a chance will never return, and thus the very critical launch is going to end up losing cryptic/atari quite a bit of money.
Hopefully EA/Bioware will learn from the last few MMO releases, but its doubtful in all honesty.
QFE. People much like the starter of this thread and his/her concurring counterparts are a strong contrubition to some of the reasons why SWG is dead and why WoW now placates to carebears and people who find it "too hard".
Don't let the door hit ya where the Good Lord split ya.
It's laughable that when you approach a ship/base/planet one of your officers pops up (can I designate my communications officer, please?) and tells you officer/scientist/alien X is hailing us. He/she then asks if you'd like to put in on-screen. Who's leg is getting pulled? Like I have a CHOICE to answer the hail? I have one option to click and in comes the transmission. Why ask me if I want to answer if I've NO CHOICE but to do so?
Ah, yes...the gaggle of jerks Momurda warned us about decided to leave the game they're all having soooo much fun with to grace us with their posts. Huh...if the game's so wickely awesome, what are you knuckleheads doing out here with the riff-raff? Let us vent our disappointment, let Cryptic know they're losing customers, and inevitably someone has to come along and hasten us out the door. While you won't be missing us, you think we'll miss YOU?
Don't you have to buy the game in order to be given the privilege to post in these forums?
If the answer is yes, then everyone posting has played the game. It is unreasonable to expect zero negativity.
If the answer is no, then that would mean anybody could join these forums and post whatever they felt like without having even touched the game.
For me, the game is like living with someone who keeps leaving the cap off the toothpaste. Time will tell.
Good luck to those leaving and hopefully for those like me, we'll see you soon when you come back to check out the *rolls his eyes* fantastic changes and redirection Cryptic makes to STO.
Only 3 weeks after the release??? Your impatience give me the impression that you haven't seen other MMOG releases. Most other big MMOGs I know needed months before they got in a halfway good shape.
Holding out as long as possible. Basically currently don't think its worth 15 dollars a month. If it were like DDO and free to play I might consider it, but its just too simple of a game to warrant that kind of money.
