There are alternatives to fighting.

Before you read any further let me just give you the idea of this post. Its basically a response to the comments and concerns that this game isn't like the real ST because you have to kill/destroy everything. I am trying to show that there are sometimes alternatives.

I've reached RA 5 with my main character so I decided to create a new one and play through it over again to test out a different officer and ship type. As some of you may remember there is a mission called Hide and Seek. I won't bore you with the details of the mission, however I would like to tell you something interesting.

There has been a lot of talk about too many missions where we need to kill/destroy everything in our path. While I agree that its true, and we definitely need some change from that, I learned something in the Hide and Seek mission which you are an Ensign.

Out of 13 possible ships (3 groups of 3 ships each, and 4 groups 1 of a single ship each) I only took out 5. It actually made me happy that I could hide from/outrun ships in order to avoid destroying them and still continue my mission. Unfortunately after beaming onto the station I had to kill all 15 Klingons that were on there in order to complete the mission.

So whats the point of this post? Simply to let those who don't already know that there are sometimes ways of avoiding fights if that is what you really want to do and feel like you are part of Starfleet from the TV shows. In a sense I am trying to give myself choices when the game doesn't give it to me. It might add a new dimension to the game for you as well.

Have fun!

I had a similar experience with minefield. I was playing with someone and they bailed at the very last stage of laying the mines. I couldn't take on the Klingons by myself so I basically had to impulse in and draw them away from the beacons, and then lose them to go back to the beacons and lay the mines.

It was fun and it added a whole other dimension to the constant pew pew.

Stealth tactics in game could be beefed up considerably.

Anyone else remember that old thief game on the pc where the trick was not to be seen or caught? They could easily add missions like that where the trick is to avoid the klingon patrols, etc.

They just need to communicate the mission objective to players in a way that encourages the stealth tactics.

I don't think you understand that people want a dialogue/diplomacy system that gives us the chance to talk our way out of combat. Sneaking is nothing but a gimmick and only used in a few missions... All the missions I'm working on now REQUIRE me to kill everything in sight before moving on.

Believe me, I would love some diplomacy missions. However I'm simply suggesting an alternative since we don't have that yet. As I said, I've reached RA5 so I know that there are tons of missions that require everything to be killed, however there are a few missions that don't necessarily need that so for those you do have a choice to make, even if its not a choice the game gives you. Personally I found it refreshing not having to fight my way through that mission, and may very well not fight my way through missions that don't require, depending on my mood of course lol.

I completely sympathize with your wishes, as do many, many people. But, I do agree with OP, that stealth missions do add variety to an otherwise endless amount of pew pew. It's not a solution be any means, but it does have potential to make the game deeper and more enjoyable than it is.
