Pretty much what the title says, currently weapons are shown equipped by default, which I could see making sense for fed marines, but what about those of us who entertain fantasies of being diplomats instead of cowboys? Running around with weapons out by default, especially on a federation owned space station, makes one think of being on some wild-west frontier world where the only law is in your phaser's charge pack, rather than being in the fairly civilized United Federation of Planets.
I know many will like having their latest and greatest guns out, so I'd suggest making it an interface toggle
Weapons holstered by default [x]
While I'm on this line of thought, I'd also like to see my away team put their cannons away when I put mine away. Landing on a potentially hostile planet, have to be ready for a bad landing...but when everything turns out to be okay and the natives are greeting me with their local version of a banana daqiri, I'd really like to see my team put the hostile overtures away when I try to do the "We Come in Peace" thing. I'd hate to have a diplomatic incident occur because Ensign Pog had an itchy trigger finger and annihilated the clan chieftain.
When's the last time in star trek, where there was an episode where an entire station full of people walked around with weapons out and ready to shoot the next guy? I've seen some stuff from cryptic about trying to get more of a Star Trek feel to the game, as it's been pointed out that not very many episodes featured shotgun diplomacy as much as STO does. To me, having weapons default to holstered instead of equipped would go a ways towards promoting more of a Star Trek feel.

I think that was an episode of TNG you're talking about, but they all conned blue to each other so the fire buttons were greyed out anyway.
I'd like an option for your BO's to holster their weapons, there's something not quite right about a well armed officer(s) running after me while I scan/fix things or try to resolve something with diplomacy
Totally agree with this post, I've mentioned this before. No offense to one of the posters above but I shouldn't HAVE to unequip one of my weapons slots to achieve that. I think beaming down to a starbase or even being on your own bridge and your weapon is automatically drawn is a bit silly. Even more frustrating is being on an exploration mission that involves diplomacy or scientific investigation and your bridge officers are running around, guns blazing!
I really hope cryptic looks at this and modifies it, maybe even offer it as an option in the settings. Drawing your weapon is quick and easy and no one will have their combat affected negatively by this minor yet visually important tweak.
