Advice on Admiral/Skills

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Two sort of unrelated questions here:

1) I just hit Admiral, and I've been playing in escorts the whole time. I find the Dervish-class and it's whole group pretty offensive to my eyes (:(), and though I don't mind the Prometheus look (in fact, I like it), the Defiant was always one of my favorite ships. I've seen it discussed before, but never really saw a definitive answer or opinion: if I stick with my Defiant into Admiral, is my only disadvantage the lack of more slots? Or is the ship itself inferior to the new escorts?

2) Is there a website or some kind of spreadsheet yet that shows the most efficient/best skill layout for certain classes or professions? I'm terrified of spending my points in the right place until we know how the respec works. :)

You loose 1 Lt. Com tactical skill, 1 ensign skill (science or engineering), and one aft weapon slot by using a tier 4 ship if I remember correctly... Personally I found the prometheus design fun looking, but as it adds a ensign science spot that I can't figure out anything useful to do with... underpowered... the 'Dervish' was more useful (engineering team 1 is at least useful as a quick heal)... and not completely ugly, though hardly typical trek either...

Really... Since RA 5 is the cap... you can max 1 skill and work into a second... I maxed a piloting skill and then... I couldn't figure out anything else I wanted.. so they sit their until Cryptic gets off their TRIBBLE and raises the cap...

btw officially their are 3 'ranks' of admirals in trek... so we could go up to 70 levels if Cryptic felt like it all without breaking theme...

There's 3 "named" ranks of Admiral. :D In all the series, Admirals had 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 pips surrounded by the gold bar, so there's 50 more levels for them. :)

not to mention that there are things, and roles, beyond admiral.

    1 Lt. Commander Tactical Ability
1 Ensign Ability (Science or Engineering)
    1 Aft Weapon Slot
1 Console Slot (Science or Engineering)
100-150 Crew (Depending upon which ship you go for)
    5000 Hull Points (25000 Defiant v.s. 30000 Tier 5)

Individually, the differences are not huge. However, together, I think that it is a noticable difference. This is not to say that the Defiant is not usable at Tier 5, but you would be at a disavantage compared to Tier 5 ships. Currently, unless you PvP heavily, this is not likely a big deal. However, it may matter more once Raidisodes are added.

You can have 6 ships though, so there is no reason that you can't have the Defiant in addition to one or more Tier 5 ships, for when you really need the edge.

Thanks for the responses. :D I just wish there was an easier way to transfer all the weapons/equipment from ship to ship. :(

Shame they skiped Jr. Lt and went straight to Lt, there's a whole 10 levels right there!
