Whats going on, with the screen hanging. I have an 8600 GTS and on moderately raised graphics it plays smoothly, however i can only transition between zones when i put the graphics down to minimum or low. That means that every friggin time i have to change place i have to decrease then increase my graphics, this is just way too much effort. If i leave my graphics as they are then most loading screens just hang, except for the ones with lots of people in them. Are Cryptic expecting us to do this everytime? Is this something there working on too improve? Is anyone else experiencing this?
Is there anything I can do to stop having to change the graphics everytime i have to change zone? Are Cryptic aware of this problem and trying to fix it?
If you don't meet the recommended specs, don't expect the game to run perfectly.......
Again, delightfully non-helpful. Most of us that don't meet the minimum specs are well aware of that and are looking for ways to improve our experience. I just don't understand what you were expecting to accomplish, except to make us all aware of the specs on your rig. Congrats on that.
Im above the minimum specs, surely that should be good enough. im not asking for perfection, this hasnt anything to do with perfection and frankly i dont think this is a graphic issue, it has something to do with the loading, it runs perfectly at the graphic levels i have it at, its just the loading.
I set my world detail to 75% and kept everything else at 100% or better and now have no problems, The World detail setting fixed me
by gollly, TRIBBLE on my hull and call me space gimp, Movius, your recomondation worked! The loading is so quick now. if you were a sexy blue bolean female i would have a thorough make out with your right now.
Glad you've got it sorted. Sorry for the snarky posts but I see so many people on here posting that the game looks like a slideshow or that they have to run it at very low resolutions and blaming the game. You then find out they have really low spec machines but still belive it's Cryptics fault!
No offence to the OP here but posting you have an 8600 card is really the problem, people have to do some research and see that cards such as that are not gaming cards so can not expect a game of this type to run smoothly without cranking the options down.
I know it will fall on deaf ears but the 8600 card and others of this type are very poor gaming cards, hell the only thing they have going for them is they can run DX10.
I would put my very old 7600 card against them and I know which would perform better.
A higher number does not mean a better card,do some research on it and you will see....
Edit--the 7600 card is in the attic and not in the machine :P
Regardless, it's disheartening to see someone genuinely seeking help and someone finds it necessary to, essentially, tell them they need to spend more money on better hardware. Believe it or not, most of us who don't have the ability to purchase top-of-the-line (or, at least, moderately good) gaming rigs are well aware of the limitations our machines pose and are simply trying to find a way around a perplexing problem so we can enjoy the game. Continually beating home the point that we don't have the latest and greatest doesn't help anybody, and frequently (sometimes inaccurately) gives the image that someone is only responding so they can brag about their machine.
Its okay Splyce, I probably got snarky myself. I can completely understand responding with "buy better equipment" when the OP is "this gm is da suxxorzz bcuz it no run on muh 75 yo brick", but far too often people jump to that when someone is only looking for help to a problem. Hope I didn't jump down your throat.
I shouldna pointed at Cryptic, i didnt know what the issue was really i just assumed it had something to do with the game design...everyone shouts at their machine when they cant figure it out :S
Well i know my 8600 is not the greatest but rite now i am having a great time, its running smoothly, it may not look amazing for those with great graphics cards but hey, im a simple guy just wanna have a bit of fun, i dont have that much money for a new card and although the rec spec is 8800 the min spec is 7900,
even with the texture detail down to me the game looks great, runs smoothly and im having fun
Monitor Verttical = On
Antialiasing = None.
Dynamic Lighting = OFF
Light Quality = Low
Bloom Quality = Low
Screen-space ambient = Off
Reflection Quality= Low/off
Cinematic focus = Off
Limit Frame Rate 60/30.
If still having problems try this Half Resolution = ON
It takes me a while to load scenes too. And I have a much better system then you. My hard drive is over 3 years old. If you are connect to the internet via Wifi this will slow down your performance.
And 8600 GT is a little date but will still run STO on Medium Settings.

Buy a graphics card that meets the recommended specs.

... I miss that game.

I concur

I will try that and report back
Anyway, well done
