Before I post what is now 3 pages of rage and anti fanboism I would like to hear from our fanbois or just objective folks who love this game and why. We see the tons of anti cryptic anti this game threads so Im curious to hear the other side that isnt "can I have your stuff? QQ or we dont care about your opinion posts" Unless of course thats all the other side has
Comments
You and your kind are what are wrong with the MMO genre.
Anyone who likes a game is a fanboi - which is a term only used in forum based personal attacks, your post is anti-this, anti-that and includes nothing but argument.
Are you implying that a well reasoned argument by someone who likes the game will change your mind? Or are you simply looking to feel superior to someone who is enjoying a game you are not enjoying?
Either way you're not helping. This forum is a poorly managed cess-pool of bile, hate and decreasing circles of the community fighting itself. If you dislike the game, leave. If you like it, stay, just quit being a keyboard warrior in the process as it helps nothing.
Obviously you need to re-read. Whenever someone gives constructive critism the "fanbois" say things like the thing you quoted. I can;t even begin how you misread that
Looks pretty, attention to detail on the ships lighting effects all good.
Good Co-operative with friends.
Some good episodic mission content, especially if you are familiar with the Star Trek genre.
Space combat is nice balance between easy to use and interaction (unlike some set orbit, auto fire, pwn)
Cons:
Content lacking through out game
missions can be too linear
Too easy, currently can do admiral missions in tier 2 ships
Itemisation is poor especially over use of mission rewards
A bit over instanced
I haven't included any bugs or connection issues because these are to be expected for a newly released MMORPG. Although Crpytic so far have done quite a good job fixing and patching to this date, the fact that I am also connecting from the an overburdened UK connection the USA the latency is pretty good.
Just to say I do really like the game, but I am Scottish and I am not paying for something in this current state and so have cancelled. Hopefully things will change by early March, if not, well there are plenty of other options out there. I have billions of ISK in Eve to go back too or even a gaggle of level 80's in WoW if I get truly desperate.
Thank you
The game is fun. I've not played any part of STO - both factions, from CB to today, from Ensign 1 to RADM 5, having done every mark of exploration missions, every episode and every Patrol mission along the way and experienced PvP in every tier - that I didn't have fun with.
I like that I was able to make my main look like the Captain I always imagined as a child, when I dreamed of being Captain of my own Starship.
I like that the game is really easy to pick up and play, so I could possibly convince my wife to play with me.
I like that the members of my Fleet are so cool, and we have a really good time doing stuff together.
I like the autogrouping, when it works.
I like the graphics and sounds, especially on my 73" TV and 2500-watt, 7.1 surround sound system (it was really cool playing it when my dad showed up, while I was in a ship battle; he doesn't get into games other than Tetris or Nascar and he thought it was sweet looking and sounding).
I like that I make one character and have two distinct gameplay types.
I like the weapons and iconic locations.
I like a lot of the Episodes themselves, like the time-travel arc in the Klingon story, or the Hobus arc in the Romulan story.
I like that the only time I've seen a queue, regardless of the day or time I log in, was when someone posted a screenshot here on the forums.
I like that I've only been DC'ed once.
I like that the server is stable, compared to other MMO's this early at launch.
Anything else, OP? I got more.
Why does it sound like you're putting together a hit-squad?
this
Wait, the TITLE and ORIGINAL POST didn't make you think that?
Its as simple as that.
Its difficult to explain every factor that contributes to the fun and the trek feel for me.
The sound design is great, the art is great, I find combat to be fun and exciting, the missions intrigue me, the strange new worlds I find amaze me, the ability to customize things so deeply engages me.
The general story arc the entire Trek universe has taken also interests me deeply; war is an excellent catalyst (in a story situation) for all kinds of neat things.
Conspiracy, honor, dishonor, valor, foolishness, wisdom, action.....
With far reaching effects.
Most of all the potential for expansion, refinement, and building upon whats already there excite me.
I love this game, my wife loves this game and so does my other roomates. We each have our reasons and they are our reasons and no one elses.
1. I like pretty lights.
2. I like blowing stuff up.
3. I like killing aliens.
4. I like Star Trek.
I am still rather naive in the ways of the world.
I tip my hat to you, for taking four words to say what would take me ten. As proof, see my post compared to yours.
This even though apparently this is a bad thing in and of itself
One of the biggest con's of this game atm for me is the fanboi/hater drama. neither side is helping, neither side is clever or smart and neither is helping to improve the game despite their claims
people need to grow up and whether you like or dislike the game, post respectfully of others or don't post at all
At least show you understand that little of what Star Trek is about
This is the point lol
obvious troll doesnt get more obvious
Are you some Internet hero out to save the common people from something they think they enjoy? Are you out to make sure that those who paid and are having fun realize the folly of their ways? Do you truly care that much for your fellow gamer?
Far more likely that you're of the type that thinks an Internet connection and a keyboard makes you some sort of expert on the subject of games and what people should be doing with their time. If I wanted to hear somebody tell me how to spend my money and tell me what to enjoy or not to enjoy I'd join the Church of Scientology.
That's it OP. Yes, I'm serious. I make my final decision on ANY MMO I play (no matter how new or how old) on one question, "Am I having fun?"
Gaming is my hobby, a game can have TRIBBLE graphics and a server that's as rickety as an old three-legged dog, but if I'm having fun, I don't give a damn. I can rattle off pros and cons of every game (MMO or not), but it still boils down to that one question.
The day I stop having fun is the day I stop playing.
I totally disagree. Simply liking or loving a game does not make a person a fanboi. A fanboi is someone who is not considerate or open to any kind of negativity, no matter how constructive or courteous the feedback is presented. A fanboi will also blindly support the game at all costs without looking at facts that are truly obvious to everyone.
So what do you call a person who likes or loves this game? A fan.
I like the space exploration and star trekness of the federation. Even in this "time of war" the battles are defensive or protecting someone else, as was shown throughout the movies and series'. Dispite what others have posted, I like seeing exploration missions. If I want to just kill everyone in site, I'll make a Klingon
I don't like the bugs, then again who would. None, apart from the CTD ones, are more than annoying. I would like to see an improvement in character interaction. currently the zone chat is nearly worthless with people using it as a giant chat room with off game conversations. If you want to do that while in the game use a private chat channel. Or better, load some other chat and do it for free. My ignore list is already more than a page long LOL. Adding more options to how to approch problems would also be a benefit.
I was afraid this was going to be yet another game that was "star trek in name only" but after using a trial key I was glad to see it wasn't and purchased it. currently I'd give it about an 8.0 / 10. it's good, not great, need work but not an overhaul, and additional content has already been listed as in the works.
Great post.
Not aggressive, but still it showed your point in an orderly manner.
The reason why iam still here is because I want to support Cryptic.
Why?
The most enteraining drug games for me have been made by Cryptic.
I believe I have made and delete almost 100 Champions Online and City of Heroes/Character, but still havent gotten higher levels than 16/31 in the games.
Cryptic are the kind of developers I really like.
They make games with high customization abilities that isnt hard at all.
And money to buy new things are never a problem in their games.
Its not like you have to mega-grind low level mobs for X hours to get some decent gear.
And here is the inherent trouble at the center of the name-calling issue;
Its all based on highly subjective definitions that are often used by both parties to label the other for the express purpose of attacking them because their opinions do not agree with those of said attacker.
My measure is not am I having fun but how long will the fun last.
I purchased the original UFO when it was on offer few weeks back. Looks utter dire now, looked pretty bad back then as well, but can't beat it for alien whacking.
Well thats exactly what this is, this is helping me modify the mega long post that I havent posted yet. And jedi do you ever actually play Iv been wanting to yell at you for a few things but never in game
100% disagree.
I liked Earth&Beyond, but never defensed the overpriced monthly fee neither some of they mistakes.
I loved Seed online (a pity it died almost at birth) but there were soooo many things to improve.
I played the first years of WoW but then they decided to break my heart by giving pallys to the horde and shammies to the alliance (something they said that will never be).
And the list goes and goes; the only things that I'm a truly Fanboy right now are Discworld novels (please someone find a vaccine for Alzheimer before is too late) and JRR Tolkien middle-earth novels (english is not my main language and I readed the tough Silmarilion in his original version!! )
From the wiki:
"Fanboy is a term originating in the United States, used to describe a male who is highly devoted and biased in opinion towards a single subject or hobby within a given field."
Coming back on topic I like this game not for what it is now (in my personal balance the failures right now are more than the succesful achievements) but for what it can be if they work hard (an Atari stops messing up... wouldn't be the first mmo broken by them).
Short version:
I have faith in them, they will do the right improvements.
MOO3 was like that for me
