Tier 4 and Tier 5 Ships

i notice all 6 ships are on the same Admiral tier of skill Tree, for example Deep Space Science Vessel and Reconnaissance science vessel, i looked em up and they have the same Hull Points. Same weapons setup, instead of Two Tactical officers the Deep Space has Two Engineering officers instead. So is one suppose to be better then the other? or do they just have slightly mix matched things.

I ask because currently its impossible to decide on a good skill setup because i don't know if i should include my second Tactical officers abilities, or know that ill lose that second tactical officer when i upgrade to a Tier 5 Deep space vessel...

But as far as i can see the only difference is one has one more tactical officer position, a tactical console instead of an engineering console, the Deepspace does have a lot more Crew members, But should i be skilling my tree with the Tier 5 vessel in mind, or is the Tier 4 just as good?

Recon and Deepspace Science Vessels are both T5 ships - at Admiral you get to choose from 2 ships of each Type. So when you get to Admiral you get to decide if you want to be slightly more offensive (Recon) or more defensive (Deepspace). Before that there's no real reason to worry about what you'll do at T5, as you should have thousands of extra BO Skill Merits to spend by the time you get to that level if you decide to go one way or the other.

Retcons are coming. I know they've said they'll be in place later in the year when the add in the last 5 levels. They'll, hopefully, be put in place before then, but they are coming. :)

Yeah you have a choice, it's worth having a good look through the database beside the store to check the difference. I have both the science vessels and from what I've figured out the deep space vessel is your typical science ship made large. The recon vessel is a compromise between science and combat.

Testing revealed that the recon felt more manoeuvrable but that might just be a placebo based on the size of the ship.

Tell me about it, wasted a lot of points in the ship classes not realising they will limit my skills at admiral. Another critical part of the game not ready!

Retcon has a base turn of 9 whereas DS has a base of 13. It's assumed the extra Engineer will grant additional defenses to make the need for maneuverability less of a necessity - much like a Cruiser.
