Lower Tier Ships hurt by patch.

Before the patch you could go to the defend missions with your lower tier ships and just play. Since the patch as far I can tell now that I am an admiral there isn't anywhere I can use my constitution class ship effectively.

I understand the reasons behind the changes to defend missions (gold farmers, power leveling, etc) and I don't know what the right answer to this problem is, but it would be cool if I could still play with all these ships that I have sitting in my inventory.

How so? I haven't flown my lower tier in a while so I'm kinda curious what exactly affected it...

Me too... whats the point of all these drydocked ships if we cant do anything with them? Are we going to be able to upgrade them to the next tier up at some point (which I would love)?

Well the way it was before if you went to a defend mission in the Sirius sector you would be facing the same level ships that you did when you were the proper level to be there. So you could use your lower tier ships and fly around blowing up ships the same level as that tier ship. Now when you enter the Sirius sector defend mission if your an admiral it spawns admiral level ships in the zone.

Like I said I understand the reasoning as to why they did it, I just don't know what to do with my low level ships now.

Can't you fit the top level gear to the ships anyway? They should be plenty survivable packing admiral level shields and weapons, I would think they would just kill slower.

However, this is, and always has been, a fundamental fault of the game, the tier system is terrible. No ship, especially an iconic ship, should ever just become obsolete entirely, like everything below T5 does currently.

Are lower tier ships restriced to lower tier weapons and equipment?

They were in beta, but not now.

I have started putting Mark X gear on all my ships such as the Galaxy, Defiant, Intrepid, etc...All the ones I want to keep.

You can put mark X level stuff on your lower level ship and it does help but there is nothing you can do about the hull points. Some lower tie ships can be blown up in two good hits from torpedoes.

I am not sure why you would want to simply pwn ships 20+ levels below you...

Isn't it an Admiral's perogitive to pick his ship? I'm sure one of you trek nerds will cite the actual quote from Riker or whoever said that.

It would be nice if at Admiral, you could pick any of your ships and "retrofit" it to the appropriate quality. ie: consoles, weapon points, rank stations etc. You'd probably have to keep the hull the way it is, to maintain proper perspective after all.

You are complaining that now area difficulty scales to your level ? Or are you unhappy that you can no longer go and own ships 20 levels below you ?

    Hmmm

Why would you *want* to kill ships that all it takes is a moth TRIBBLE to destroy?

Making the ship levels the proper level was the best thing they could do... Admiral's shouldn't be able to run over newbies... But if they haven't done it yet, they need to just make instances level specific altogether... So the people who wander in automatically get shoved in the right place...

I noticed that the new cannons I got for my Connie won't go in anymore though... So now I have useless rare Mk X cannons in my bank... Would have been awesome to know they were gonna do that...but oh well... =D

High level players entering noob DSE missions always spawned high level mobs. It always did. I've been wtfkilled by k'tinga battlecruiser +16 on sirius black encounters on open beta.

The thing is that their level doesn't instantly change, it changes when mobs respawn. Which means the admirals who so like to fly around in their noobships at DSE just killed all the easy mobs while making high level mobs spawn - effectively TRIBBLE up the whole instance for players to come until it's somehow reset.

Whatever you people did was never good in the first place.

Lets bring this back to the point of my thread before we get in a large flame war over admirals in the newbie zones.

My point is that the lower level ships because of their non-upgradeable hull points and officer stations become non effective at admiral level. This means that there is really no use for them any more. I personally like some of my older ships and would love to be able to break them out and have fun playing with them again.

I don't know what the right fix for this is. I just think it needs a fix.

I think your sentiment is nearly unanimous among those who have an interest at all....

Many (myself included) believe that this is a shoe-in area for a crafting process to bring older ships back into viability...

    That's an excellent idea.
