I was thinking about things that bother me about the game and one is the lack of distinct geography. In most MMO's that I have played the different zones and sectors have very distinct geography. You can go to an area and easily tell where you are by visually looking at it. I don't get that feeling with STO. Pretty much every zone has one planet, one or two moons, and some asteroids.
This really hurts the exploration aspect of the game because it doesn't give playing anything to look forward to. Going to another area is going to end up looking exactly the same as the many others they have been into. I know Cryptic has a bunch of other things to deal with, I just hope refining the existing in game areas is on the "eventually" list.
He hasnt noticed that alot of it is just a backdrop that you can't even fly around... If you don't believe me i dare you to fly around the moon in SOL
You apparently haven't tried because you can fly around the moon.
And my complaint is that space all looks the same. It would be like if in real life we left our own solar system, and every solar system we discovered had 9 planets. Only the planets were different colors.
And I'm not about to whine about the geography so much as the ridiculous geology of that one type of planet map. You guys know the one I mean, the one with all of the lava everywhere? That map has lava lines curling up TREES. What the TRIBBLE, Cryptic? Seriously! That map is just plain stupid and needs to be removed. It's pretty but it's also mind-numbingly ridiculous.

There is a Plethora of different backgrounds depending on what mission you are on, frankly the whole tie dyed look of 1/2 of space is a little odd to me. As for planets, I'm not sure exactly what your complaint is. Some planets i go to are green, others are red, some are blue, and most are a various assortment of every color known to man. Some have one moon, some have two, some have rings, some have asteroids. The planets i visit are quite various, and i almost never go back to the same system twice minus places that have a base i need to visit.
We never see the whole solar system of a planet we go to, so we don't know how many planets could be around a star, planets in our own solar system are never closer to each other then to be barely visible as a colored glint in the sky, i would assume it would be similar elsewhere. Realistically speaking we have absolutely no idea whats out there, we can barely manage to get to the moon and our space probes take a few decades to leave our solar system.

Well guess you have to give props where props are due... They fixed it and moved the barrier back some.. So yes you can NOW fly around the moon...

What do you want to see added?
I would like to know what makes an area what it is. For example lets say I am at Bhea in the Vulcan Sector. Aside from looking at a map there is nothing to tell me that is where I am. Nor is there anything to explain about the area. Why is it called the Bhea? What significance does it have? What makes Bhea, Bhea as opposed to Beytan? How do I know I'm at Bhea instead of Beytan?
Think of it this way. If I were looking at our solar system (near planets) I would easily be able to tell where I am based upon two factors. One is the distance from the sun. The other is the body I am near. If I were near Neptune I would be able to tell because of the massive blue planet with a storm on it, the orange moon titan would be near by. If I were near Jupiter I would look for the giant red spot. There would also be a difference in the size of the planets.
Currently in game there really isn't much that makes one place you visit different from the others. Planets all seem similar size. It's even so bad that some of the unexplored systems have gas planets that you beam down to.

welcome to space...
they really ned to make the game 100000x larger.. it maybe boring but space is 99% empty.. I woudlnt mind traveling in boring long space gives me time to have adventures on my own ship (which of course doesnt exist either) but hey happens on alot of star trek episodes the Holo deck episodes the crew going cray episodes.
The main problem isn't that space is a giant void with only a few interesting locations to go to. This isn't space, instead it is Gene Rodenberry's idea of what space should be like. A vibrant ever changing series of planets and astronomical phenominia populated by species of varry colors and personalities.
Life is everywhere in the universe Rodenbery imagined.
Now we don't get to explore space or even travel in it, instead we get to moap about a blue grid space with planets that we can't even visit unless we have a mission for them.
So there is no sense of place. No locations with any meaning. No reason to fight no reason to avoid death. Why do we have to travel anywhere when nothing happens between where you are and where you are going except the second hand on your clock will twitch many times in between.
Why are there no calls for help from a civilian transport under attack?
Why can't we visit a mining colony and mine some ore in space. If we stay long enough there might be a virus outbreak on the local planet and they call us for help.
You see a place that we could go to mine ore would have value we would want to defend it. A civilian transport that trades goods with us at a better rate than the replicator would have value and would be worth defending.
Why arn't there any missions on Risa?
Why doesn't my bridge crew have any missions? Even generic ones.
Why arn't there any missions from Earth space dock for the vendors that would then give us access to special stuff. Or special crafting missions. I don't consider selling stuff to a store to be "Crafting".
There are so many issues with this game that it seems hollow and without meaning.
But the game play is fun I just hope they add both a purpose and a place to this game soon.
