This game is a decent game, it lacks alot of elements that will make it great, but with proper communication from the player base to the company those changes can be addressed and perhaps implemented.
I believe the #1 thing on Cryptics plate right now is making what they have IN the game work properly. After that is accomplished they will move on to other things like quest diversity, more story, more in depth NPC interactions. And perhaps more freedom ( Like flying straight up or down in a weightless environment ).
I personally will stick with this game through thick and thin because it IS star trek. Sooner than later we will start seeing content releases and more functionality brought to the UI. Sooner than later we will see a more in depth level of creating items and alot more information available in game as to what we can do, where we can go and who has our next great story quest.
With all MMO releases you find bugs, things you do not like, things that can be better, and things that SHOULD be better. As a community the most beneficial thing we can do is bring these items to light in a respectable way so that the development team can address them as time permits.
Just remember that every GREAT idea will have to come after everything works properly.
Some things that I have noticed that could be better -
Quest log - Why is mine so full of things that I will never again benefit from? When I hail starfleet I would like to have the option to choose whether or not to acknowledge the quest givers that give me un-beneficial quests, like patrolling the sirius system. Perhaps there could be a filter criteria implemented to allow you to choose a certain level and above for quests? For instance only the NPC's that offer that level and higher will be visible when hailing starfleet. Additionally, I think it would be better if I could choose a person out of that list, and after accepting or not accepting the quest to be able to just switch straight back to the lising instead of having to hail starfleet again.
The Map - Clicking is not user friendly, the option should always be there but it is not user friendly. I would like to see a change to where If I open my map I can hit a button to cycle from sector to system views and vice versa. Additionally on the system view (large universe view) I think it would be great to be able to choose a path there as well. Since you have to invest a bit of time in flying across the game it would be great if I could pull up 1 map and choose the next system within my current system that I want to fly to. Like leaving sol and wanting to fly to regulus.
The Bridge - I have a sit emote, but it takes time and patience to get seated in the captains chair correctly, I would love to see an option to sit on that chair without having to use an emote. Perhaps instead of having just "Return to tactical view" there could be an additional option to "Sit in the captains chair".
Sharing quests - With the vast amount of instances there are per area I believe sharing quests should be cross instance without a distance cap. I have invited friends to play with me on STO that have never played any MMO in their lives and they love the game. But it is soo hard to attempt to explain to them that they are in a different instance. When I am assisting them with something I generally ask them to share the quest with me, but when I switch instances I end up having to fly from wherever it enters me at back to within .5LY of them for the share. This is a very large time sink and detracts from the overall satisfaction of me and my friends playing together.
Multiple Transwarp locations - I can transwarp to SOL, but have no reason to ever go there aside from helping friends. Memory Alpha and DS9 are the only places I care to go at this time. Would be great to have a menu so that we can choose where we want to spend our 30min cooldown to go to so that we do not have to fly so far to do something worthwhile directly afterwards.
The Music player - Just curious as to why windows media player 10 is not supported by this? Winamp does in fact whip the llama's a$$ but I still dont use it. I dont even have a llama.
Voice overs - Sometimes I zone into a new area without thinking and have my music playing and then hear Leonard Nimoy's voice in the background and think ! ! OH NO! Im missing fun story time! And end up missing a bit because I have to turn off the music. I would like the option to listen to these again.
Chat windows - I would like to be able to have multiple chat windows. Not tabs, but actual windows. I like conversing with the zone, but would like to keep my fleet chat seperate so I never miss something that is said in case I am in a fight and the zone is chattering away.
BO Abilities (ground) - I would like to be able to move my battle officers abilities to my action bars so that I do not have to click them. Or even to just allow me to bind a key to them.
Space Hull Integrity - I would like the option to choose between seeing a % or a XXXXX/XXXXX for my hull integrity.
Ground vehicles - I have an awesome space ship, but when I go on an away mission its like im in the stone age. I have to walk everywhere? I would like to see larger world environments, more unknown species, critters if you will, animals, monsters(?), and a method to traverse them in a fun way. Like a space buggy! or a walmart shopping cart.
Ideas for Quest diversity and Combat diversity
Boarding enemy ships - Instead of flat destroying a cardassian ship I would like to choose whether I destroy them, disable them or board them and take control of their ship for their resources. It isnt like starfleet to slaughter others needlessly, or steal. But I would like to board a ship, take over and be able to "Negotiate" a cease fire, or something to that extent.
Holodeck - Training missions to promote battle officers. Perhaps in order to promote battle officers you should have to take them through a series of trials in the holodeck to prove their worthiness of the promotion. Or even a test based on your factions core beliefs in order to achieve a rank for yourself. In starfleet academy they have a test which is suposedly unbeatable, as we all saw in the movie. I dont see how I got captain without any actual training in that respect. You will also notice that upon leaving starfleet academy Kirk was not an enseign.
Multiple choice quests - Blow it up or dont, assist or dont, I want the option to choose whether I lay waste to an installation or choose to assist them. Granted alot of opposing factions are shoot first ask questions later, but I want to be able to choose my responses to enemies to give it more of a "What if" feel. Even if the outcome is the exact same, I would like to be able to drive the dialogue (even with predetermined choices).
10 forward - I am a captain of a starship where everyone can handle their own problems apparently. Noone ever has an issue, I am never transporting a diplomat that tries to take over my ship and I end up having to keep them from doing so. I want to speak with Whoopi.
The Q - An ultimate power, almost the star trek equivalent to a god. Unbeatable entities which can mold the universe and times as they see fit. Perhaps after a certain amount of quests are completed by a character it unlocks specific quests in regard to some of the things that Picard, Riker and Janeway had to deal with in regards to Q. It only makes sense to be highly renowned and important before the Q takes interest in you anyways, strong character and what not.
Drama - Some of the most interesting moments in star trek revolve around rebellions and corruption. Where an investigation is required to determine the viability of one person or another. Again multiple outcomes would be great, and determining the culprit could be at the discretion of the captain. The rewards would be better if the choices made reflected the core beliefs of your faction.
Surveillance - Quests in which you observe a species or people in which the prime directive conflicts with actually disturbing their species. Where you need to blend in to learn more about their culture in order to determine something. Somewhere that you cannot carry weapons. Perhaps even get caught by them, have the choice to beam out or face trial for something that their culture believes in that you accidentally wronged. Wesley crusher comes to mind when he fell in flowers (though I wish his character were killed right then, he was not).
Large city sabotage - Being in the heart of enemy territory knowing that if caught certain death looms. Having to infiltrate the city to gather key data in order to prevent a catastrophe. You only have a vague idea as to where it might be within the city and alot of options as to where to look. Any transporter activity would cause alarm in the city sensor net therefore you are on your own, and have to be stealthy.
Crew interactions - Mini games, I want to play a 5 tier game of chess against the computer or another player. Great minigame to include through a negotiations. Perhaps a quest to lose at a game of XXXXX to gain the confidence or trust of someone in order to further a critical investigation.
For now this is all I can think of, I absolutely love the game, cant wait for additional content.

WOW! I cannot believe I overlooked respecs. They will come in time though, its a definite I am sure. If you made mistakes on your character it will just be a matter of time before you can correct those. It really isnt worth making a replacement over. I will hit 45 and make a new character to level to 45, when respecs go live I will at that point be able to maximize my characters effectiveness Love the game!

For me its not about max'ing his effectiveness its just about fixing him LOL
I put a Science Capt in a Cruiser
then put skill points into skills that I need to be an Engineer Capt to train my Bridge Officers with
as a Science Capt I can only train my BOs in Science skills
and since I'm in a cruiser science only goes up to Lt
so cannot train my Engy BOs Directed Energy Modulation III because I'm a science capt
I need the respec so I can get into a science vessel
And Yes for me as well I am not going to re-make another science officer
I'm doing 1 of each already have science and tactical working on Engy Capt now
