Maybe it's a tactic.

I'm wondering if we are missing the whole point of all these "haters." Maybe some of the complainers are just doing some tough haggling.

For example let's assume: Gas per gallon is $0.99.
Sure great! Most people will find that acceptable and not say a word. Some will speak up and say how great it is, and others will complain.

Complain? Not because they don't like the price, but because they think they may be able to get it for $0.98 or lower. I see this all the time in my line of work.

The problem I have with this tactic is there are people investing their whole selfs into this game, trying to make it the best it can be. People are people, and if they don't feel like anyone cares for their work then they won't do a better job, they'll get severely demotivated and quit.

That would be highly counter-productive, and something most of us don't want.

I think if we want a better game, it is better to build a community with the designers than it is to try and bargain with them;worst yet make "death" threats (of the game) at them.

I think people need to learn not to give ultimatums. It hardly ever works... except for in the movies... of course, and this isn't a movie.

What do you think? Do you think this is an intentional tactic? Maybe people are unintentionally using this tactic? None-the-less, it is a tactic I think that needs to stop.

Personally, think you give people too much credit on the internet.

No one really gets flushed or embarassed for being called out for being a TRIBBLE on the internet. So I tend to go with a more primal reason, they are venting.

I think it really has more to do with the state of the world and not an intentional tactic here. I mean, we're not talking about calling your cable company and threatening to cancel to see what they offer you (which, frequently, gets you SOMETHING, sadly), we're talking about a flame war on a forum. For some reason, people who post in forums tend to think that their opinion is tantamount, nobody else's matters, and if they aren't completely, totally, utterly, and completely engrossed by the experience then the other person has failed in every way coneiveable. Or something like that, I can't think on that level myself.

I do honestly believe, though, that a lot of the negative posting is being done by a small percentage of the player base.

    Both valid points.

But we both agree that their venting is destructive.

However, I do think there are people out there that are doing this, unintentional, because it is cultural.... like calling the phone company for just a little more. I support this with the fact they "always" mention the 15 dollars a month fee... that is identical to calling your phone company and asking for more. However, phone companies are a slightly bad example... because they are paid to maintain.. not update...

    Case and point:

    A DEV JUST posted this:

It's good to see posts like these. Thank you. I like the game too but I would like to see/make improvements too. It is so harsh on me to read negative posts that are not construcive. But I read through them anyway because I look for the constructive negative posts that help me find things I can do to make the game better. Anyway thank you again.

Since I am here I thought I would mention that I saw an email a couple days ago of a list someone internally made of all the improvements people on the forums most want. These things are on our minds.

I'll give you something constructive. DO NOT SHIP A GAME EARLY! If you think running around a tiny map called a 'planet' and jamming the F Key five times is content then you must think a Big Mac is Fillet Minion.

Your game is buggy. Most of your content is flat, uninspiring and lacking any kind of depth or complexity. I just love flying to the same 5 asteroids over and over fighting slightly different opponents *rolls eyes*. Your servers have been laggy and unstable. The klingons are an unfinished joke. The skill-cap is an obvious money-grab slapped on at the last minute. Ground combat has all the tactical depth and complexity of checkers.

You made a bad game. How's that...constructive enough or did I bruise your fragile ego?

This account was created on Sep 2009.

    So let's break this down.

He has clearly invested time into the game, or he is just someone who wants to spread hate.
Being a part of the forum since Sep 2009 gives the impression that he has played the game through Open Beta. So maybe he's just burned out on the game, perhaps?

His post does not support my initial suggestion about the tactic of "haters." This one seems more of a vent then anything else.

The Internet is like a puppy dog. Sure, it's cute and can do a few tricks, but if you don't keep a close eye on it, it will **** all over your floor.
