This post is designed with the intent on pointing out the obvious, but as someone who has done what I am about to talk about, I figured I would share this experience with the STO community in an effort to inject some FUN into your STO gaming.
I recently made Captain, and I changed my entire approach to starship combat. In my opinion, starship combat is where the most fun is had, and if you agree - this may help you if you have been feeling that "ho-hum" when logging in to play.
Prior to making Captain (tac officer) I was cruising around in escorts that were front loaded to "unleash hell" upon my enemies. It was pretty cool. With buffs I could do a silly amount of damage to a ship in a short time. This isn't meant to be self-serving, but my point is, I got bored. I was thinking that once I made Captain I would get my Defiant, and the tactics would remain largely the same with the exception of a few more buffs to drop on myself.
So yadda-yadda, I make Captain, and I say to myself, "Damn, that Galaxy class is just to pretty to pass up." So I went with it, respeced by BOs (had a lot of points in the bank), and decided to tank a little bit more, while buffing some allies. It's a really cool change of pace. As I sit here at work I look forward to going home and playing.
So while this thread may be "pointing out the obvious" I would suggest you give it a whirl, it may rekindkle your love (or at least like) for the game..
Yeah I already did that and got bored in about the same time. I am not sure there is enough diversity among the different classes in this game to provide much enjoyment past your 2nd created character, IMHO.

Well the good news is that you got bored - again - which suggests you had some more fun. Right? Did you respec your BOs or did you actually go with a NEW character. I have a new character, but that's not what the post was referring too. I just retrained my entire crew to take advantage of the Galaxy versus the Escort.
After the Miranda I took a Cruiser because I love that ship: http://fenvar.lima-city.de/StarTrek/Ahwahnee/Ahwahnee92048.png After that I changed to escorts, because I didn't want a lower turn rate than that and equipped it to unleash hell to the front. http://fenvar.lima-city.de/StarTrek/Korrek/Fury.png Same with the Defiant. I had planned to go fleet escort with the same concept but after seeing how horribly ugly they are I chose an advanced escort with four phaser beam arrays and reskilled my bridge officers from cannons to beams. The only thing I haven't tried yet is a science vessel. Maybe I should, but I have almost no science skills skilled. I guess I try a Luna-class when respecs are available.

Nice - I have yet to try Science also. Maybe that will be my Admiral Tier. Don't know. The guy I play with (that sounds wrong) uses Science ships, and he is about to get his Voyager. Should be an interesting combo.
