Star Trek ALREADY on sale, kind of a slap in the face?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
It's only been a couple weeks since launch and Star Trek is already on sale on steam, D2D, and others. Isn't it kind of a slap in the face to start slashing prices this soon? I know it is an mmo, but damn it hasn't even been 30 days. If I had bought mine retail I would be able to still get back the difference in cash due to sale policies (within 30 days).

This just seems kinda crappy.

Actually, it's par for the course for P2P MMO's.

As this is the 7,524th thread on this today:

Every MMO game ever has had this happen, except Warcraft releases, which last a big longer at full, because they're Warcraft and outsell everyone by a country mile.

    This is normal.

not really. Not in the first 30 days. At least not with WoW, AoC, WAR, Lotro, Pirates, City of Heroes, Tabula Rasa, Champs, Aion, Shadowbane, SWG, should I keep going or do you get the point?

no, it isn't. You guys might try actually reading a post before rushing into the cryptic defense league. This is highly unusual in the first 30 days. Obviously I wasn't expecting it to stay the same price for ever.

Whether or not its normal for MMOs (Im choosing to listen to the voices of experience here not the OP and assume it is)

Its also just a fairly average corporate tactic.

They get people who are willing to pay initial price to buy, then decrease it to attract (hopefully) many more people.

Capitalism; sometimes it burns but its usually considered better than the alternatives :P

Things you learned from Star Trek:

#2756 - Only buy items from brick and mortar stores that you can get cash back in person if you care all that much about your cash.

Side note: The gal at Best Buy laughed when we did not return the SE's that were opened.
She said from what she has seen of the game I could make a case for getting a refund on opened ones as well. rofl
OMGZ STO has alienated the smallest minority in the MMO community!!! Real females with real female parts are bored.

Oh yeah the price drop in first 30days is just for well..crappy games lol
Wish people would stop touting that this has ALWAYS happened with succcessful games.

My Steam has STO at it's original price so either this is a regional thing or it's not cut on Steam.

You choose to listen to who says what you want to hear.

This is NOT normal for a AAA title to be discounted less then 30 days out from launch.

I think it's because hard disk retailers ordered to much stock. ( most likely thought a lot of trekkies would buy it ) that or it's a tactic for them to try to get more money.

MY reverse charges finger is getting itchy. Of course it doesn't help that we are still missing the Joined Trill on Klingon side I already paid for over two weeks late with no update...

Well the OP said it's on sale in Steam among other places but I'm not seeing it being on sale in Steam so I'm a bit confused here now regarding on what Steam he's using if he's seeing it on sale there. I thought there's only one Steam.

I don't know where you live, but all of those titles were down to 20 bucks within a month of their respective launches where I live.

I'm big enough to admit that the decision is *partially* based in optimism.

I'd also like to ask why I should believe you or anyone else who claims it isn't normal but I know I am unlikely to get a decent reason.

My decision is also based on a certain amount of economic logic.
Read what I said about this being a corporate tactic.

well with steam they some times drop MMOs and other games after they get it. sometimes as much as half off. if I was at home I would check the steam sales, but I'm away from my computer for four days. :D

I know SWG was reduced because it made me mad when I saw it cheaper, never check eve or wow because at that point i didn't care for wow, and I was to busy getting mugged in eve.

yea they are having a sale on it until march 10th. 10 dollars off, not to freak out about, if anything it helps because the 10 dollars off sticks out, and helps sale the game.

That's funny I could have sworn when I booted steam earlier I got a "STEAM UPDATE" with info about how they're taking $10 off either copy.

    mmmm... Yeah

I think some folks need to learn how to use the refresh function, because it's on sale at various retailers including Steam ($10 off both editions).
