Dont know about you guys, but it would be awesome to hear more music from the movies and tv series. For exaomple when your cruising around in sector space hearing the DS9 music or theme music from Star Trek First Contact would be nice. Or if your Klingon, hearing the themed Klingon music.
And when your engaged in battle, theme music from the Wrath of Khan. The music now is okay, but it might give some more immersion feel with music from the series and movies.
While this is a valid point... does not Cryptic have the right to reproduce the entire Trek universe? and would that not include said music?
Welcome to the copyright licensing business, where absolutely nothing makes a bit of sense.
But seriously, it depends on the contractual nature of how the music was produced originally. Obviously Cryptic/Atari either couldn't afford it, CBS didn't/couldn't afford it, it wasn't available, or some combination of things.

my understanding is that CBS has full rights to all Trek productions, including the soundtracks. there could be royalty issues here, but I really doubt that it is a very high price tag considering we are not talking about top 40 music.
if it were simply a matter of rights, we would not hear the Star Trek fanfare every-time we finish a mission.
From the Guardian mission, the errie music is missing from that scene when you interact with the Guardian. It would have been awesome to have had the music go along with it!

Ditto for direct character likenesses--you know you have to pay for those too, if you include a Patrick Stewart/Picard in-game?

If it's not that, your guess is as good as mine.
