GameStop ripoff

I pre-ordered the collectors edition of STOL from the GameStop web site for in store pickup. I got my retail copy for $79.99. On Feb 16th I recived an email from GameStop that the collectors edition is now $59.99, I contacted the store and of course the manager was not available. I then called 1-800-883-8895 and spoke with a GameStop customer service rep who informed me that I was SOL because I had the pre order benifit of the open beta.

It's only 20 bucks and I could care less but it seams pretty shady to me.

On a different note, is there any way to block the credit/gold miners from flooding my cryptic mail box? I have 36 messages and they are all for STOL credits and gold. silly farmers.

If you bought early you paid the full price. This is a sale. Would you expect Dillard's to give you money back on a pair of jeans you bought there a month ago because they were on sale now? No. So, why would you expect that from GameStop?

And if you go to the bottom fo the page of those emails there should be a link that says, "Remove Me From Your Mail List". Click that and follow the instructions from there.

Never NEVER click a link in any email froma gold spammer. I know it's not possible in a Cryptic mail message, but do not even go to their website. Most have keyloggers that they can install on your system or other nasty stuff. I've found that the less I post on these forums, the fewer I have in my inbox.

Actually, if you have a receipt, you "Should" be able to get the difference returned to you, with in the 1st 30 days after purchase, some companies even go 90 days, even if it was a Pre-Order. I have done it numberous times from games to dvd's to appliances. There's something like a 1 month price guarantee with most retailers. Most of the time it has been Best Buy, or Walmart though and I don't think I ever tried it with Gamestop however. This is especially handy when a new game comes out and a week later it drops $10 bucks.

Anyway, good luck. Gamestop tried to sucker me into getting the CE too, but I just said no.

Not when there's a special deal involved such as a Pre-Order Bonus.

I totally understand that it is a sale but I also understand where people are coming from in that they took a chance early on this game being a success and now there are people who were too afraid to gamble early getting a deal now.

It's kinda like if a year from now the game had a steady 300k user base and they started offering lifetime subs for 175 dollars...

Unfortunately a lot of people don't realize that the Open beta and 4 days of headstart were the pre-order bonus.

Open beta was pointless since anything you did didn't matter, it was like a free preview on an account you'll never get to use again.

And the headstart was moot unless the game were only going to running for a set amount of time instead of possibly years...

So the "bonuses" were really nothing special or worth 10-20 bucks.

And the other things as far as items and such are attached to retail keys not pre-orders something 85% of the people on this forum don't seem to grasp. I could still get a Tribble or Connie if I wanted it...

Also, technically this isn't a "sale" even Gamestop says it's a Price Drop...

Oh, wait. You meant the in game Mail box. You said email.

For the in game Mail, just click on Report Spam at the bottom for each one. This will add them to your ignore list and that user will never be able to Mail anything to you again. Once you've done that you can go through and just delete all of the Mail.

But those people don't get the super kool TOS ship that you got, do they? So, if GameStop said they could refund the money, but you would have to return your TOS ship, would you?

Hehe half the TOS Connies went to Steam pre-order customers, and we got their pre-order armor.

To DeWitt_LSF: Don't worry I never click on the TRIBBLE they send. They are bandits.

to Rip-Wire: I think I will have to take it up with the store manager. I don't want cash, I spend too much money at GameStop as it is. A credit would be nice.

    To Blackavaar: Fiail.

I thought it was tied to having the combination of both the pre-order and retail codes entered. If it wasn't it should have been. Pre-order bonuses are supposed to be PRE-ORDER bonuses. If anyone can just go and buy the game now and get them then they aren't pre-order bonuses, are they?

I think you may be confusing the current bug, where people are getting pre-order bonuses they weren't supposed to, with the way the game codes are supposed to work.

Nope, just bought it and just got the connie after code application.

It never was tied to pre-order codes. I've said this since they announced the specials but no one listened.

Yeah, most the time when I get price matching after I purchased it, I do get store credit and not cash back. Best Buy does give cash back though, which is nice.

It also depends on the store and if you are a good customer. My local Gamestop knows me by name, as I'm always in there. So when they see a Collector Edition coming out, even if I didn't order the CE version of a game, only the normal, they will hold 1 for me, unless not all Pre-Orders are filled. :D

Well that Conny was well worth the $20! I would have paid $50 for it!

Flame war? Where? Seemed like a pretty mild conversation to me.

Another thing you should remember about GameStop, they are primarily a console game retailer. They tend to move computer games off their shelves as fast as they can to make room for their new console games.

Okay then. Well, that was a stupid way to do pre-order bonuses then. They should have made it necessary to have both the pre-order and retail codes entered in the account.
