Jerky graphics - Starbase 24

Hi guys,]

Whenever I head to Starbase 24 to fight the klingons, the graphics become incredibly jerky and I can't play. This happens whenever there are a lot of ships on the screen or people on the planets surface.

I'm playing with a good graphics card so what is the problem? Is it a server issue?

STO is the most graphically intensive game i have ever seen, on max quality i get 1/4 the FPS of Crysis during events like Starbase 24... "good graphics card" wont cut it with a horribly inefficient engine like this one :(

When you say 'engine', do you mean whatever Cryptic are running it on; is it a server issue?

Do you also experience the Jerky graphics too? I can take us up to 20 mins just to enter and leave Space Dock too!

    Thanks

I think it's a server issue, I hadn't noticed anything this bad until the last patch then one of the dse's was lagging like crazy when the timer reset but about 30 seconds later it was back to being smooth.

It's a bit complicated - `i'm running it off a brand new high spec Mac Book Pro with a wrapper patch from a guy on here - this lets me run the game.

The graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M - so above the recommended spec.

Space dock is the biggest nightmare and I've given up Starbase 24 altogether!

I also have a MacBook with 9400M graphics and I can run most games fine in Bootcamp, if you don't have Bootcamp you should give it a shot and see if it's improved, I haven't tried STO myself on my Mac because I uninstalled Bootcamp (I don't need windows crapware on my Mac).
The patch you are using is just wrapping the entire game in a box that takes up memory/graphics/processor (whatever) and then has to play it, shouldn't be a big surprise it's not running flawlessly.
You could think of it as if you are playing a game remote controlled from another PC, through a bad connection, it will never really work right.
