Small irks and ideas

A list of irks and suggestions about the game.

First, the bad points.

1) Starfleet Costumes

- Are differing way too much, I always loved the clean and stylish ranking system they had in the films, each career had it's colour and you knew what was going on, currently I can hardly tell what anyone does or who they are the costumes differ so much, however, I realise a game thrives on choice, so i'm not expecting this to change at all.


2) Warping

- When exiting a system, it should show a small cutscene as the ship distances itself from all objects it shouldn't warp through, exiting the system and warping into sector space, I frown every time i click "exit sector" and end up warping through a planet.


3) The Borg

- Should adapt to your weapons every 6th or 7th shot and you should need to rotate your weapon frequency to do damage again.

- Cubes are WAY too weak, in the films it took an entire fleet to destroy a single cube, iv'e been in missions that have 2 cubes battering me and iv'e still flown away intact (barely). I realise this is 30 years after nemesis but the borg, like all races, would have made advancements and there should be no excuse for being able to spank a cube with 2 ships. In addition to this, if cubes are way too weak then tactical cubes are just laughably weak, these things are meant to be absolute juggernaughts and I see them taken down easily wherever they are. A possible argument to this are transphasic torpedo's (end of voyager series) and ablative armour plating which are both anti-borg developments, speaking of which....

- Havent seen them in action to double check if they dont already do this but if they dont, transphasic torpedo's should have a very high cooldown period but bypass shields altogether, for those who may not know how transphasic torpedo's work they beam through a vessel's shields and materialize inside it's structure, destonating from the inside.


now the suggestions:


1) The Starfleet Database

- Obviously not all races will be known to starfleet, thats why they explore new worlds etc, my idea creates a game-wide Starfleet Database. Scanning a vessel will reveal basic information about it's shape, defensive and maneuvering capabilities. However to fully get knowledge on the ship the shields must be down to get a clear scan, this would reveal extra information such as life support capabilities, crew compliment, hull composite and internal layouts as well as the vessels creating species. The game-wide database could update as someone discovers something new, giving the original discoverer credits to spend as achievement points of some sort and perhaps also mentioning the captain's name who discovered it. this could also apply to anomalies, nebula's, the possibilities are endless.


2) Merchants

- Rather than having just NPC merchants, perhaps create a playable merchant class also, I don't know about anyone else but I rather enjoy mining and gathering resources and selling them on the market, an economics system would be excellent for some.


3) Missions

- Yes I know missions are already in :P, my point relating to these are there are some things some members of your away team shouldn't be able to figure out, for example, having 3 tactical officers and a science officer and encountering some alien technology, should require you to beam up a tactical officer and beam down your engineering officer so he can inspect it and postulate on it's useage, there are some things that scotty could work that spock wouldn't have a clue about and vice-versa :)
