This patch was absolutely critical for the survival of this game. Cryptic NEEDED to add bug fixes AND content. Up until now I have been on the fence as to whether or not this game is going to be worth my time.
Now I am extremely glad I did not buy a lifetime membership, this game will completely die away as soon as some other games are released.
Myself, I have a certain PS3 game coming out on March 8th that is going to take me away from STO, probably for good.
I thought VG was a bad launch, which it was, but at least VG had stuff to do in the game.
Now whenever I log into STO I find myself saying, "Gee, what do I do now?"
I personally will not pay for a game that I cannot bring myself to play.
Very sad, this game had all the potential in the world, and I blame Atari more than Cryptic, but I do blame Cryptic as well.

The patch was apparently critical to keeping your subscribtion.
I'm sorry it did not work out.
Cryptic may have my money and benefit of the doubt for a while [whatever the while may be] yet...
Though hey, we each speak for ourselves and ourselves alone.
I am always amazed that people are amazed that many MMOG's are unfinished upon release.
No matter how much Beta testing they do, nothing tests a game like the first few months of being live.
My advice to people (for the past decade) who are not patient enough to see if the game will work out or not is never buy a MMOG on release. Wait 3-6 months then get it.
You wont lose the race..and you wont be frustrated by the common issues many of these game face the first months out of the gate.

lol... Vanguard could have been the messiah of gaming, could have had everything everyone ever wanted... but the one glaring reminder of everyone who ever bought it: It didnt work. It was twice if not 10x more buggy than STO.

It was fun after SOE took over for a while, mainly because they had the money to fix it. But the damage had already killed the game. Its pretty dead, a friend of mine said they tried the trail again just recently. In one of the huge cities, they only saw one other player and it was a level 45 passing through.

Vanguard did have a lot of potential but I remember back in Beta the simple lag of the game made it close to unplayable.
So many promising games have come and gone and some seem to hit it, some just can never find that balance.
STO has to find it with in the first year or they will lose people to SW, at least those left.
I get to play maybe 5-10 hours a week right now, so very much less than I used to put into MMOG's, so right now I am still having fun for what it is worth, but they do have a good amount of work to do.

That is how warp speed works. There is no actual displacement relative to your surroundings. It's how they exceed c.
