After the patch today, whenever i try to log in i get this error: http://filebox.me/view/ehgjaafcb

If i click "Yes" on either, i get a "Your Cryptic application has crashed." error.

I am running a 4000 dollar gaming system less than a year old with the latest drivers and had no problems with the game in general before the patch today. What is going on and how do i fix it?

I DO have the newest Nvidia driver... They have not released any new ones for the 260-280GTX mobile cards since 4'th December 2009... I have been using that one without problems with STO until todays patch, again.

Check the box in the lower left corner,

    Click "Yes with default settings"

You should still get an annoying little bug in the lower left of the character selection screen, but other than that you should get in fine with your pre-existing settings....

I dunno what they did that triggered it, but it's the same on my laptop with 260 m / SLI .... There is no problem, they just forgot to put that hardware on the list err sumthin'....

I've had no problems aside from that st00pid warning....

Perhaps technical support is where you want to be.

I was surprised too.. but NVidia really only has one monolithic driver package that updates all their cards (despite making you select your hardware with menus on the website). What version of the driver are you running?

I had 195.62, which was their latest for quite some time. When this same error box appeared for me yesterday, I checked NVidia's site, and 196.21 had been released. I installed that, and everything was fine.

Did you not read my post? I specifically said i had tried both options and it insta-crashed... Also, to the other posters... i have tried to contact tech support and i put in a ticket 4.5 hours ago, both have got nothing, NectoBones, they have not updated the 260-280M drivers in over 2.5 months, i did check... Very few people actuly have those cards as you have to dish out several thousand dollars minimum to get one in a gaming system and most people with that amount of cash go no brainer for desktop systems as they are much more powerful.

What OS are you running? x86 or x64? Did you try to reinstall the drivers after the error came up?

And nobody really cares how much you spent on your rig or system. If someone replies back with (get better gear, which I think someone did) just ignore it. I don't know why so many people seem to think that because they shelled out thousands of dollars for their rigs that they are immune to problems that everyone else has. It's like buying a porsche and getting ****ed when you get a flat tire because you paid six figures for the car.

@OP - It is possible that your existing driver has become corrupted and needs to be updated and or reinstalled? The patch just confirms this.

    Or...

Perhaps maybe there's something running in the background of your machine that now conflicts with the game. Have you attempted a full cleanboot and test of the machine?

    Also...

This is truly a post for the support forums.

I hope you figure this out and soon as I know how irritating it can be to want to do something and not be able to finally do it.

Yes, i reinstalled... Why do you feel the need to mention that nobody cares about my system? A paragraph-long rant will not help anybody, i just thought the info might help with a solution or whatever...

Nothing new running, tested everything... done system restores, full reinstalls of drivers etc, nothing works. Cryptic is still unresponsive and my post in support forums has 0 replies. TBH i think this is just more reason to quit.

If you haven't already, go to GURU3D.com and try a few of the older driver packages. Just go the the driver/nvidia section and they will have all the previous versions of the drivers.

Also you might want to try and update your directx. Just google "directx redistributable" and it will pull up microsoft's site to download the latest Feb. directx package.

Other than that the only thing I could tell you is to go into the nvidia control panel and change all the options to force your settings instead of allowing the game to control them, see if that stops the game from trying to do something it shouldn't.
