This is being talked about on
www.mmorpg.com and I could not see anything on this forum.
Anyway some great ideas were mentioned, one by a guy posting under the name ndodge, he said:
If STO wishes to keep true to the episode-style of gameplay, why not make losing a ship similar? Perhaps sitting in an escape pod until they are rescued, or landing on the surface of a nearby planet and setting up a beacon until another ship shows up? I understand a player would want to get right back in to the game, so these don't need to last as long as you'd see in a typical Star Trek episode, but it is a thought. Since the game revolves around instancing every mission, it shouldn't be too much to have one of these scenarios randomly occur after your ship is toast. Also, in regards to how much of an encumbrance on a fleet this would be, give other players the ability to rescue the pods with their own ships in order to hasten the process.
This is a Great idea, and I thought that to add on to this we should get more bridge officers and each time there is a death a bridge member gets hurt and sent out in a life pod to be rescued, when you do get back to the ship you use a replacement bridge officer until the injured member is better.
Also how about the captain gets emergency teleported to a base like Earth of DS9 which ever is closest, so he can get one of his other ships to mount a rescue and gain using replacement or temporary bridge officers, once you have recovered your stranded men you then have to do some kind of mission to regain the ship you lost in battle.
Now there should also be something for a death in away missions, maybe use something similar that what is used in Dragon Age where you have injuries which effects you or the bridge officers performance

With all the people moaning about the game I did not see anyone actually giving anything with regards to this subject so I am sorry I did not see anything plus I was at work and only had a few minutes.
so it's a thread about the article that has been going around the internet today.
i'd frankly like cryptic to verify that article's authenticity on these forums in a dev post. given that they haven't made dev posts in any of the many threads on DP on the forums since the start of OB.
that thread on mmorpg.com also mirrors the threads here, with people arguing back and forth why a DP is or isn't needed, with examples of why DP works or doesn't work in other mmo's.

There is a link in that article which goes here:

The dp topic seemed to be going away until these articles. In all of Closed Beta, Open Beta, until today I have never seen a single dev post on the dp topic on the official forums (though there seems to be plenty of moderators involved
You will note that most all the pro-dp thread seem to have lots of personal insults and name calling as usual (mostly from pro-dp folks it seems.. as usual).
I hope that helps.
yep i've come to much the same conclusions.
knowing the internet as well as i do, i wouldn't be surprised to learn that the original article is fabricated by someone who wants to see a death penalty in STO.
yes it would be a strange thing to do, but that's the internet for you.
because really, where's the rest of the interview in the original article? why now when previous interviews have been mum on this subject?
