As soon as I connected to download the patch this morning I noticed unusually slower than normal response from the launcher and patch process. After finally getting back on the server I realized I was lagging very hard. Just adding throttle to my ship took 20 seconds at first. Then the massive rubber banding kicked in showing me my connection was garbage.
After logging out and doing some tests I realized that it was the StarTrek Online server and forums that were lagging for me but nothing else. Without an IP to bounce packets off though I can't find the real problem only estimate. After asking some players in game who responded telling me they had no lag I am wondering if any other west coast US or Canada are having connection issues.
Currently the entire Star Trek Online network is running very slow for me and the game is unplayable. However prior to patch and the last few days in general have been very good lag wise. I haven't had any rubber banding in the last few days. Whatever the problem is I don't like it. I am really sick of EAST COAST servers also. There are always problems with east coast data centers and west coast connections. Is there an IP I can trace to get some real information I can pass on to my ISP if needed?
Turns out I am not the only one having the issue. After talking with a few people it seems this problem started early this morning and has not been addressed. This tells me the server admins are unaware of problems routing from some areas. Please have this looked at first thing this morning. Currently the game is unplayable due to high latency and packet loss. Anything STO related is slow. Takes minutes for the launcher to even fully load up. In game it's like ice skating with rubber banding. Never seen it this bad before.
Looking through the forums I see many posts on this issue albeit indirect responses to the same problem. While I realize some people may be playing fine there is definantly an issue that has come up in the last 12 hours regarding server/website performance to anything STO related. Looks like I'm lucky I can even log in.
while my problems are not quite as severe as what you're describing, it's definitely gotten laggy this morning. There's a degree of rubber-banding and pesky abilities having trouble activating.
Though (as usual) it'll probably clear up later in the day...
tracert patchserver.crypticstudios.com
you can also do a nettest on the ports
Nettest:
Go to http://files.champions-online.com/nettest.exe
Download this file and run it
A command prompt should appear running the test automatically
Column 1 and 3 have values around 500 kb/sec (outgoing/incoming), column 2 has values around 20 kb/sec (transfer rate). for a good connection
Alright the connection quality is so bad today that some investigating is needed due to the sheer amount of people that will just say no lag here it's your connection. After looking at the results clearly there is an issue with the Cryptic Data Center. This may not effect some people and their connection quality but it's definantly effecting customers from my area.
I spoke with a friend who was on the server all night and he stated the problems started early this morning before the patch. He was also having problems with being disconnected and not just poor connection quality.
Net test is reporting ping times of 3000 and multiple timeouts including low bandwidth. Below is the results of a basic traceroute also showing timeouts from Cryptic and spiking ping times. What the trace does not show is the inflated ping times seen in nettest. Also could not copy from Nettest.
Last weekend and all week the server was running like a champ for the most part. Rubberbanding had almost vanished completely. Something is definantly wrong over there. Aside from the high ping and rubberbanding online I could really feel the lack of bandwidth in a group battle. Every phaser was delayed and a hicup followed. If something was changed server side to conserve bandwidth go back to the previous settings Even the website is running like mud.

i am just copying, my problem in this tread, because its prb this lag thing (i make in Star Trek Online > Star Trek Online Forums > Feedback > General Gameplay thing):
>i have played this game in 6th of feb and after this patch i have never get BIGGEST LAG in this game like >now. What has happened ? I play in europe in finland and i have 24 MB line and i have never get so much >LAG in online game ever like now.
>What has happened in this new patch ?
I am jart this forum thing but i am not jart on playing in online games ! I have played 15 years of online games so, so much lag is not allowed !
this is TRIBBLE there is a problem that is stoping poeple from playing this game and its not getting fixed. ive had enough im returning this game and highly recomend not buying it to anybody. apparently this company doesnt give a **** about its customers just making money off an incomplete product that they make no effort to fix
I've been searching the forums for a while now, trying to find a solution to the constant lag and disconnects I've been getting on a daily basis for several weeks now.
I've replaced my router.
I've had my ISP send technicians.
I've done hours and hours of troubleshooting on my PC with both my ISP and my computer manufacturer.
Nothing is working.
Today I was noticing several dozen threads on the forums with several people in each one, all having the same issues. And all living on the west coast of North America. After looking at the domains of the hops with high pings and dropped packets, I've started to see a distinct trend. It just hit me that all the problems seem to be almost entirely on systems owned by some company called InterNAP; I did a google search and found 2 things: internap.net and pnap.net are both owned by InterNAP, and 2) STO is NOT the only game suffering from the same issues with InterNAP; WoW and others are having the same problems. And it's all people on the west coast, such as BC, Washington, etc.
Is InterNAP the real cause of our woes? How do we fix the problems that are being caused by InterNAP, if it IS their systems interfering? Cryptic can't do anything because it's not their servers, and I'm not sure my ISP can do anything because it's outside their network. So what do we do? InterNAP seems to be causing a HUGE issue for hundreds of MMO players across the west coast of North America, and it seems they ahve been for months.
