Not giving Crytpic another red cent!

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
The tl;dr version is: No, you can't have my stuff, because I'm still using it. Pfffffft! *gives the bullwinkle*

At least not until they give me what I've paid for.

That is, the Mirror Universe uniform for both genders. Now, just listen. I'll make it short.

The female Mirror Universe uniform is already in the game. Several NPCs have been spotted wearing it. However, it is not made available to those of us who should have access to it. In addition, Cryptic has stated that they have no intention on taking the 5-10 minutes of data entry it would take to add those costume pieces to the player accessible costume table.

You see, no code is actually necessary. The code's already there. So is the artwork. Instead, it's just a matter of editing a few lines in a database, table, or what have you to give us access to it.

This is why I'm not giving Cryptic any more of my money. The product we were supposed to get is there, it's ready, they're just refusing to give it to us.

For those of you not in the know, the Mirror Universe uniform was supposed to be bundled with the Champions Online lifetime account. However, they only delivered the male uniform, not the female, despite the female version being present in the game already.

Now, before anyone asks "Can I have your stuff?"

NO! I'm still using it.

I said that I'm not giving Cryptic another red cent, and I mean that! Seeing as how I have a lifetime account for both of their games, I can play without having to pay them anything more. As much as I don't like the fact that I haven't gotten what I paid for, it's nonrefundable. So I'm just not buying any expansions until they give me what I've already paid for.

The games are fun. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy playing them. It's just that I can't believe a word Cryptic says about the features that come with what you're buying. Heck, they even tried historical revision once. With the CO Lifetime accounts, they changed the terms of the offer and then tried to retcon reality by ninja editing posts. That is they edited the post in the database directly instead of using the edit button so that it wouldn't be flagged as having been edited. Clever huh?

Anyway, yeah. Cryptic's edited the terms of their offers midstride and tried to cover it up. They've only delivered portions of certain advertised features in some cases, unreasonable facsimiles there of in others, and generally flaunted it in front of everyone it matters to. Seriously, the artwork is already there. The only logical interpretation to their statement that they won't give us access to it is that they're just a bunch of jerks.

Well, so yeah, I'm not spending any more money on Cryptic and you can't have my stuff.

It's unfortunate you don't have your uniform. But is it worth getting this upset over? No .. not really.. There are much bigger issues and bugs that need to fixed first.. Cryptic will get to this.. we're on day 17 of how many years? relax!

Hey, if I don't want to give a company any more money because they're delivering everything advertised as it's advertised, then that's my business.

If everyone who ordered a particular combo meal at a fast food restaurant only got half a cup of drink instead of a whole cup, and on another combo meal they always give you a different drink than the one you paid for, then I'm pretty sure people would stop wanting to stop giving them money until they straightened themselves out.

Upset? No. Disappointed? Yes. No more buying anything from them till they fix everything so that people get what they paid for? Definitely.

its not as simple as a couple of lines of code.

if every player character was limited to a set size/shape then yeah, easy as turning the option on..

but with the level of customisation we have, its not that simple. its gotta be tested, checked for clipping, sizing issues.. i mean if you put a skirt on a HUGE alien and its only meant to be for a normal sized human, its going to look awful.

i agree, it should have been sorted out earlier, like for launch, and i'd like it if cryptic was to give back some of the credits i had to spend putting my captain and all her officers in the TOS skirts once they came in, instead of being able to do it as i got them..

but to think that its as simple as a couple of lines of code isnt right. just wanted to say that.

    This..

and from a 'legaliese' point of view, you did not pay for your uniform.. you purchased the GAME from a certain retailer, and got the bonus item.

And they also promised you access to the uniform, but did not specify it would be available to all genders..

In any case, you're entitled to feel the way you do, and not buy more stuff if you don't want to, but this doesn't really deserve a thread.. You're just venting

    IMO

From a "legalese" point of view, you're attempting to give legal advice to someone. I'm not a lawyer, but I do believe that doing such a thing can get you into a lot of legal hot water, particularly when you don't disclaim being a lawyer.

Also, there are posts that have been made by yellow names which admit that the missing female MU uniform is an issue that's going to be rectified. Then they self-redacted and did a 180 on the issue.

It's an American colloquialism. It refers to the color of a US one cent coin, which is copper or "red". More specifically they're "red" if they're new and still shiny. A lot of people call them "pennies" but a penny is actually a British coin.

Female Mirror Universe costumes would be nice. We did pay for them, after all. I don't think its asking too much for Cryptic to give them to us, considering that the art assets are already in the game.

It's pretty dodgy considering someone spent upwards of 450 bucks to support cryptic games before STO even launched. In the future, they should probably specify if they are going to limit fluffy cosmetic stuff to specific genders.

We have been posting for 3 weeks now about the missing MU outfits and have never received a response.

Now, something very interesting has happened. The Official Link on Champions Online for the EXCLUSIVES has been removed:
    http://www.champions-online.com/exclusive_specials

This page is the one that contained all the Lifetime Subscription details, which included the Mirrior Universe Outfit posting. I also searched the CO Forums for Mirror Universe and it does not find a single post. All references to it have been removed and the cover up has begun.

Did someone file a lawsuit against Cryptic/Atari for the Fraud they commited by not delivering on an item we paid for? I know, if could afford it, I would have at least talked to an attorney.

I can guarantee I will NEVER buy another Cryptic game for the way they have treated us over such a non-issue costume. I mean, really, it's just a friggen costume, be it a really cool one (or at least should have been)

Oh, I can feel the burn of the venom here. Nice try. Of all the things for you to inject venom about, it's by trying to make fun of what I say when you misunderstand what I've said? Next time, trying to find a sensitive nerve first. :P

If you don't count only the lifetime accounts I purchased, it comes out to $950... Plus the $240 ($60 a pop for 2 CO and 2 STO games)... That comes out to $1190. Then there's the CO points, but that doesn't quite count here and only serves as filler. And by the way, it's one account of each game for my husband, and one of each for myself.

But I'm not only thinking of myself here. I'm not the only one who spent an inordinate amount of money and didn't get what was paid for.

So yeah... Until they fix the issue where the stuff promised has not been delivered, I'm not giving them any more money. I don't care that it's basically delivered late (essentially available at release). I just want what I paid for, even if it's late.

He has every right to be upset over this. He spent $300 for something that he never received. That's basically false advertisement. That in my opinion is far worse then fixing bugs. Why the hell should he have to wait for who knows how long for something that was supposed to be available to him from the start.

Nice try but that page was removed back in September when they stopped offering lifetime subs to Champions. Just like they removed the advertisement for the pre-order Lifetime Subs from this games special offers page.

Better luck with your conspiracy theories next time.

Actually, that page was just up 12 days ago, because I was checking to see if the offer was still availible for a friend. The 'sign up' portion was gone, but the information rundown was still up. Now it's just a 'whoops page not found' sign, and while dev threads can still be found here discussing it ,its not listed in the pre order goodies either.

Thing is, it's not even lines of code... It's just data entry to add the uniform that's already present to the tables. The uniform is there. The devs are using the uniform on NPCs. No code is necessary. What is necessary is adding the necessary entries to the costume tables. That's it. Finito. They're done. Any issues that come about from someone abusing the character creator are purely the players' problem. If they want to fix it later, fine.

What gets me is that with all the bugs and flaws that are present in the game, people seem to get defensive about adding a few entries to a costume table that may or may not have minor graphical problems in some extreme circumstances. It's as if they'd rather have the game look perfect visually without being perfect conceptually

No, if anything, it's not a matter of "Oh on a female this size, the skirt will look horrible." That's not the issue. You know why? The skirt's already accessible to anyone with the DDE version of the game. So that excuse goes RIGHT out the window.

Here's what I think is the issue, and I think it's quite reasonable: There are how many skin types that will each need their own torso textures to implement the MU uniform? Yeah... I thought so, almost bazillion of them.

If that's the case, that it's about skin textures and skin normal maps, here's a compromise I propose, although this does require a few extra lines of code, it shouldn't be too difficult. I say this from experience as a programmer. And I don't mean "Oh I can write HTML, herpaderp." No. Not here to brag though.

Anyway, my proposed compromise: Add in the necessary code (probably won't take more than a few hours really, assuming such code isn't already in place) to pop up a message informing a person that a particular costume option is not yet available with the configured skin texture. Then apply that to all the skins that don't yet have torsos. Then, the extra skins can be edited in at leisure and we at least have the uniform available on some characters with a promise (no matter how slowly it gets fulfilled) that all the textures will be eventually implemented.

Also, adding in these textures means that Cryptic doesn't paint themselves into a corner regarding costumes. The excuse "But, there's so many torso textures that would have to be done" only goes so far. After a certain point, the question is asked "Then why not go ahead and start working on them?"

Ok, so there's one character artist currently. Great. What's he working on? Expansion content? Great! Any chance we can squeeze those textures in? No? Why not bring in an artist intern to do those textures? Isn't it worth one little intern to keep the people who shell out huge amounts of cash to Cryptic happy so they continue to shell out huge amounts of cash?
