How to 'Quit' something

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Good afternoon, morning, evening ladies and gentlemen.

The dizzying number of 'I KWIT' posts echoing around these forums seem to be lowering the tone for a lot of people trying to:-

- Provide genuine feedback/bugs.
- Search for particular information regarding their profession or profession.
- Search for general gameplay information.
- Try and get an accurate feel for if this game is for them.

For one, the number of posts, even though they seem plentiful by nature, is by far not a true representation of the playerbase of this game. I for one, am enjoying it immensely, even though I dont have the 18hrs a day to dedicate to it like some people. During my lunch break at work, much like now, I browse these forums for little snippets of information, hints and tips and a general overview of the game.

For the record I dont consider myself a 'Fanboi', nor am I a massive trek fan, beyond watching a few of the series. Plus I have been a fairly hardcore gamer in the past, this isn't the first rodeo I have been to. I am enjoying the game and the upcoming promises of the dev team. Expecting a few week old game to be as polished and content crammed as the current date wow, which spent 4yrs in development and 5 years of live development, is a little crazy.

To make things a little easier for our ongoing forum community, those that open these forums for positive reasons (yes, bug reporting IS a positive reason), I decided to add a small topic on how to quit with grace.

1) If you really have issues with the game, for whatever reason, create an eloquent, well throught out and constructive post on the relative board.

2) Check for updates on whether this has already been flagged and if there are any planned fixes. Sometimes not talking (posting) and listening (reading) achieves more than spamming.

3) If after some time you genuinely feel you are being hard done by, uninstall the game and simply dont log in.

Done.

Some of the tireless rants on these forums, particularily where a person is that raged up he will spam his own topic every other post to defend it, are getting a little tiresome, and maybe a touch immature. Do you really believe yourself so important that they will pay extra special attention to you, or is it simply to ruin it for the rest of us?

See, I hate Broccoli. What I do to get over this mass hate is.. not eat it. I dont feel the need to preach to people how terrible it is in the supermarket. I dont stand in the freezer section at my local supermarket reading the packaging and telling people who walk by how TRIBBLE it is. If someone tells me they like it, I dont froth at the mouth and start nerd raging.

If I go to a restaraunt and I see someone else eating Brocolli, I dont pull my chair up at their table and start telling them how TRIBBLE it is, and that they are only eating it because they believe all the TRIBBLE the farmers tell them about how good it is. When my meal comes, if there is some brocolli on it I dont rage against the waiter. I push it to one side and I eat the parts I like, the bits that attracted me to this dish, and indeed this restaraunt to start with.

If we all liked the same things the world would be a boring place. But if someone likes something you dont, that doesn't make them wrong. Get over yourselves, if you really really feel the need to leave, do it with grace, and quietly.

YAY another "special" person that couldn't post this in one of the other dozens of whining about whiners threads. Take your own advice and get over yourself. If those threads bother you, they are quite easy to avoid.

You should be glad people care enough to post reasons why they are leaving. You should be more concerned about the people so disgusted with this game they just walk away like a teen mother throwing their baby in a dumpster because they'll never come back. Yeah, the "this game sucks" quit posts are pretty useless, but most of the people posting long "I quit" threads WANT to love this game but just can't in its' current state and tell the devs WHY.

I'm sorry if all these people that will be leaving the game after the first month shatter your Fantasyland view of the game, but pretending everything is just peachy rarely causes problems to go away.

The way I quit a game!

    Press the START button.
    Chose SETTINGS.
    Chose CONTROL PANEL
    Chose ADD/REMOVE SOFTWARE
    Chose "The game in question"
    Press UNINSTALL

I have played since the amstrad/commodore times.
My first PC was a IBM SX25 with 4 MB Ram :p NO GFX/Sound/CD-Rom etc :D
And I have not ONCE whined on a forum about a game I did not want to spend my time on.

Considering I have played UO, EQ, DAOC, AC, AO, WOW, EQ2, EVE, CO, GW, SWG, FE, and many many more MMO's I have had my share of bad games, most if not all however I look back upon with fond memories.
Not because it was the best games ever, but because I was entertained while playing them
And when that entertainment stopped being there, I stopped playing the game.

I still play EVE regularly, aswell as the irregular log in to FE and CO

ST:O on the other side is giving me alot of fun and entertainment at the moment, and for that I thank Cryptic.

A concept that seems so basic but is utterly foreign to most of the posters around here, simply amazing.

Yes because even the ones that adopted your suggestions have been treated fairly and indiscriminately.

HURRAY! It's another Fanboi vs Haters thread. No matter what you call them it is still a TRIBBLE vs TRIBBLE fight.

He's saying why not post something constructive even if you hate the game instead of whining. Why don't you quote exactly which part it is that he's 'whining,' pretty sure you'll come up with nothing

You do realize that you just proved my point.

I am not a huge fan of I quit rants, but then again I have the personal self control to not read or ingore them not make a post telling others how they should post because I can not stop myself from reading their posts.

People do not post "I Quit" threads because they care. They are motivated only be revenge. The want to hurt Cryptic because they feel cheated. They feel cheated and they want to convince others that they are being cheated so they quit too. There is nothing altruistic in their actions.

And your dumpster baby analogy is disgusting. Do you actually feel sympathy for the mother, and blame the baby because it didn't act as expected? I doubt you do. Nobody is that twisted. But you should think a little more about what you are saying.

Goodbye Flatfingers, you will be missed around here.

I'm closing this thread down now. There's no reason for you guys to jump all over somebody for posting a nice goodbye. FF has been on these boards for a good long time and has offered lots of helpful criticism and ideas.

Whenever anyone decides to leave these boards you should all be sad. The more people that play the game the better we can make it in the long run. Encouraging people to leave, and being rude to them on their way out only serves to make new people more wary of joining this community for fear of being treated the same way.

    You all should be ashamed.

Brocoli is awesome, you can eat it, or you can have it next to your train set, posing as Trees and Shrubs.
    That's a versatile veg.

Oh, you're a mind reader that can determine peoples' intent? The people that specifically say in their quit post that they wanted to love the game but don't didn't mean it? You classify listing problems with the game as revenge? Really? I think the people that feel cheated are the ones trying to get refunds, but whatever. Should fanboys stop posting how great the game is and how they're sticking around if people that are quitting should stop?

I honestly don't care if you are offended by my analogy. Grow a thicker skin.

As a software developer, I don't mind people saying my software sucks, just as long as it's constructive criticism, "you SW sucks because .....", as it helps me improve on my shortcomings, but "This software sucks and no one should buy it" doesn't help me or anyone else looking at my feedback and as a result it is promptly deleted.

Thank you Cryptic for an enjoyable game, even with its current shortcomings, I can see that you actually give a dam about you "core" player base unlike another multi-million user MMO that started off catering for the games (1-60 in 8-10 weeks) and has sadly declined over the past 4 years into an exercise in catering to the mass market (1-80 in 2 weeks) for an extra few million players.

And for all you people who remember back 5 years, WOW was just as buggy and lacking content in its first 6 weeks of operation.

I specifically acknowledged a difference between "this game sucks" quit posts and the ones listing the problems with the game. One type is nerdrage, one is not.

There is a difference between an honest goodbye to a community someone has been involved with for a meaningful amount of time, and the typical "STO sux, Cryptic sux, and all you fanboys are fools for staying" posts that make up 90% if the "I Quit" posts. I did not intend to lump them together.

And I'm wasn't offended by the analogy; saddened and disappointed would be more accurate.
