I am very disturbed by my fellow Captains who are refunding their life time/ subscriptions and turning in their commissions. The MMO is very new and it is a fine work in progress, I for one have complete confidence in the Cryptic Team and I have enough faith in this product to stand fast and raise my shields and weather the turbulence. So to all of you who give up on this in the first 30, 60 or even 90 days I remind you of this quote, "You coward ,you want to blow up the ship and runaway" -Picard
well, good luck then, just dont come crying when in 3 months time cryptic pulls off 90% of their devs to work on their next "cheap and fast" MMO and your still stuck with an unfinished game thats lacking on all corners.
If someone doesn't want to stick around until the game gets into a 'fleshed out' state, why should they? Customers aren't at fault here and some of them were granted refunds on LFT,which I think is a pretty classy move.

Mate I love your enthusiasm however I would like to point out that you could probably do just as good a job of RP on a web based Star Trek RP site. To throw your money freely at a company even though they have pretty much all but dropped the ball on this game is unbelievably naive of you.
their biggest mistake was trying to get it out before it was ready, sure it might get fixed but if the subscriber exodus is large enough they wont have a reason to fix it.... and after that it will be too late.
i wish they would have waited 6 more months... i gues the 2011 TOR release date , scared them into an early release
I have the lifetime subscription and noway will I be asking for a refund.
I do find it quite funny that people went out and bought the lifetime subscription and gave the game only 2 weeks and wanted a refund,I think around 50% of the reason I bought the lifetime sub was because of the games potential, yes it may come back and sting me but nothing has changed in 2-3 weeks to make the potential any less.
They are bringing out patch's and sorting things, the content like ANY mmo out there gets added as the game mature's.
I have seen nothing in STO's release that I have not seen many times in other mmo's at release..fix the bugs then release more content.
I can only assume the people that bought the lifetime sub and want the refund now either ..
1.Bought it while they were drunk and there wife is giving them hell for it.
2.Were expecting the game to have the same content of an mmo that was released 4 or 5 years ago.
People have been getting refunds? I thought they couldn't?
About 4 people that I can recall offhand had their LFTmemberships refunded according to a thread earlier. I wasn't on the phone with them or anything,so I can't vouch for veracity, but none of them came off as outwardly trollish.
I don't intend to give up mine, because Im not frustrated by the games state, but I can understand why some people are.
People have been getting refunds? I thought they couldn't?
I believe there is another thread that gives the details of the number and extension you can call if you wish to get a refund on your lifetime sub, as long as you are still in your free 30 day that came with your retail box or Digital download version.
They will have to pry my cold dead fingers off of the servers before I leave.
Here's my history with MMO's. Played SWG for about 10 hours and hated it. Played WoW for about a week and hated it. Played SL which is more of a chatroom than a game for about 4 years now, would quit excepting I make pretty good money there. I've played STO for about what now.. 3 weeks. Actually having a ball with it. Yeah it has some issues, wanton slaughter of the masses the line up before me, the 'wrong' weapons stuff, gold spam, etc... but you know what, since I was about five years old and saw TOS when it was orginally on, I've always wanted to be in Starfleet, now I can 'pretend for real'... yeah, it's not perfect, but it's as close to Trek as there is, so I'm sticking with it.
Im staying, am enjoying my ST experiance, its still in need of polish and maybe tidying up thel ose ends, but i still think this game can grow and become much better, its still very early days and i dfo hope this game is still going many years from now, if Eq can still be going there is no reason tha STO cant still be going, provided i guess Cryptic keep focused on improving it.
If someone doesn't want to stick around until the game gets into a 'fleshed out' state, why should they? Customers aren't at fault here and some of them were granted refunds on LFT,which I think is a pretty classy move.
Customers blindly bought a lifetime subscription that was clearly marked non-refundable. It is ABSOLUTELY their fault.
Cryptic, by law, doesn't have to do a damn thing for them, so I agree with you it is a classy move on their part.

OP: I'm glad you are loving the game, but don't make yourself and fellow fanbots look like drooling idiots by comparing dropping a subpar game to cowardice. That's just moronic.
- Nothing to do at level 45
- New bugs introduced with recent patches e.g. the fire all weapons bug that totally gimps my main character
- All of the ATI problems
- MMOs in general
Keep in mind I am also a CO lifer - so know how Cryptic do things.
Will probably sub for a month or two (while I still have fun) - but then will wait to see what happens. That is not to say I am not enjoying the game, I just cant see there being enough content long term and certainly not enough reason to sub from month to month.

I don't recall anyone holding a gun to my head to buy one,but a lot of people voiced the thought/feeling that stuff was being 'held back' for release. Quite a few of them thought there wasn't going to be content gaps and so forth.
Most games I play would have told me to GTFO if I requested a refund.

yep, thats why they allways compare it to WOW, a game that has been out for like 7 years now is it? lol...
in 7 years (if it lasts that long) this game could easily have "more" content than any other mmo
63, that is higher than i would give a mmo of only a few weeks out the gates.
why do you people fail to see that this is an mmo, and they dont all come with 5 years+ of content additions from the start...
afaik LOTRO scored 80 on metacritic about 3 weeks after release ... same for all their expansions ... WAR was in the high 70s and WoW again 80 shortly after release
so no, just because its been out for a short while doesnt justify a bad score. the MMO crowd is rather unforgiving when it gets to that kind of thing

WAR on release was worse than STO...
so obviosuly there scores are very biased, it's impossible to give a score for a game because everyone is diffrent.
i was just saying i would give way less for a mmo during its first year
I am the one who started the thread after getting a refund for my LTS. For one thing, I think Cryptic definitely mislead customers about the gameplay mechanics in hopes that people WOULD buy LTS, hence I truly believe that is why they are giving refunds. When the main Dev (Craig Z) comes out and 3 weeks prior to launch puts out a Dev Interview video saying that Exploration is one of the main parts of the game, that you can explore endlessly, discover new planets and name them, find new civilizations and learn their technology and incorporate their race into your bridge crew and its not in launch. THAT'S AN ISSUE. Even giving them benefit of the doubt that it was their intent, the game engine will not support a persistent exploration system due to all of the instancing that they've designed into it. I don't know about you, but I have no clue how they explain spinning Exploration that way when there is nothing at all like that in game.
As for comparing it to WOW, or any other MMO for that matter. Yes, WOW has been around and had years to mature, but the inherent foundational basis for growth was in the game at launch. Yes, things have changed but the basic formula is the same today as it was when it released. STO does not have that same foundation that most "Successful" MMO's have (i.e persistent world, crafting, exploration, pvp, etc). I would venture to say if they had put another year or two into the game, they could of gotten it to that state, but for whatever reason (Atari, KOTOR, etc) they released it unfinished and that is driving the customer base away. In this genre of computer games, very few recover after driving away their initial subs. They might be able to establish themselves as a "Niche" game as Eve or AOC has turned into. The sad thing is from box sales (est 750K - 1M), even counting typical 30 day loss, this game could of been the proverbial "WOW Killer" if it would of been a polished, well-rounded MMO.

Yeah all the content included in fixing new bugs introduced by the patches and finally finishing the content that should have been released with the game.
They will need to add more content based on how quickly you can hit the level cap in this game.
A review average in the low 60's does NOT make it a good game and the excuse that it is a just released mmo is BS. Maybe if they would have had everything they are planning in the 45 day update at launch, it would have deserved better reviews and WOULD maybe have been considered a game ready for retail.

i dont listen to, or read reviews to judge a game...
i look at them to see if it catches my attention so i may try it for myself, not to be a sheep and hearded out the door just becasue it didnt get a 99.9% score
What really tends to blow my mind is that while I concede reviewers have some good points about the uneven difficulty and relative lack of content - there's still so much in STO that's so cool. Not just that it's Star Trek but actual, honest to God, design decisions that have taken the game to places no other MMO has really gone.
That's who is going to stick around. Folks that get it. Folks that don't can and should move on to something they'll enjoy.
I'm here because no other game offers as entertaining a mix of ground and space combat as STO. I'm here because I love having an NPC party I can equip, customize and so on much like in a singleplayer game. I'm here because the Exploration mechanic, randomized content that has the potential to be varied and entertaining hasn't been done in MMOs before - and so much more can be done with it.
I'm here because of the slew of like-minded roleplayers I see just about everywhere. For each stupid name floating around on a System Map there's another one that shows some care and fondness for the setting.
I'm here because I like ships and crews - whether that's Pirates of the Burning Sea or my PoB YT-1400 in SWG. STO only needs multiplayer ships (which PoTBS didn't have either and was way too PvP and the ground combat/missions weren't very exciting - SWG completely lacked any content for those cool multiplayer ships to exploit) and it will easily top my list for this kind of gameplay.
I'm here, a little bit, because Star Trek is a setting that's been around my whole life. I've never been much of a Trekker but I admit I do get a little misty when I hear Nimoy's voice or see things I recognize from one episode or another. This is the same thrill that runs up my spine when I hear a TIE's shrieking engines in SWG or first ventured into LoTRO's murky, mysterious, Moria. There's something about part of your past, a romanticized part of it, revisiting you in the form of a game that's always a good thing.
There are so many reasons to be here that have absolutely nothing to do with anything most reviewers even begin to address in any serious fashion or, in my estimation, grok at all. If anything these elements are addressed with a dismissive "nice try" nod before the writer moves on to very generic and, to my way of thinking, short sighted MMO commentary on very predictable issues like bugs or lack of content (in a new game - and generally these strike me as ubergeeks that speak Klingon and are broken-hearted they don't have a good venue in STO for it yet) or how easy the game is.
Not a thing there that can't be fixed but what's most exciting is where this could go. STO has so many directions to expand and many of them are things no other game offers at all. Period.
How can a professional miss this? What the heck is wrong with these people?
Than you aren't a very bright person if you can't see the writing on the wall. You don't have to listen to the reviewers to get the score, but when pretty much every game review says the same thing (i.e. No content, no polish, shallow, etc) you might try to see the forest for the trees. It's not a conspiracy to bring down Star Trek. I would venture most people here wanted STO to succeed in spades. The reviews have pretty much across the board echoed what all of us said in closed beta but Cryptic didn't want to listen for whatever internal motivation they were driving towards.

I doubt Picard would have said that if he was paying the Starfleet for his service.
