My "new faction"thoughts...

I know Romulans are probably the most popular choice, but for me it'd be a "Civilian" faction. A faction no aligned with the militaries of any of the other factions, can be of any race, and spends its time trading, mining, crafting, bounty-hunting, transporting cargo and passengers, and so on.

I'm not sure how that would interact with the main factions, though. New infrastructure would be needed to support ully-fledged trading, mining and so forth. And it would seem a bit silly if the average civilian ship matched or outclassed the average military ship in combat - and conversely nobody would play it if they had to have weaker ships; so maybe it's not a great idea. I just kinda liek the idea of my Federation ship arriving at a starbase and seeing a bunc of player-controlled civilian ships arriving and leaving.

I also like the idea of PvP bounty-hunter stuff; perhaps those who choose the path of the pirate get a bounty on their heads, so other civilans are encouraged to hunt them.

Add in a player-created content mechanic, and I think there would be enough there that no stroryline would be needed for the civilians.

I know, I'm basically talking about Eve (or older games like Elite) using the STO engine - but I think it would be realy fun and help create the sense of a populated galalxy. Plus it's a tried-and-tested style of play which we already know works.

Anyhoo, just rambling. I cna't imagine it ever happening - it would require too many fundamental changes. Would be cool though.

I like the idea, but I doubt it would happen anytime soon. Cryptic has it's hands full filling the gaps in what we have now.

Personally i think this would add a good element of depth to the game.

We could move away from the "exchange" (could be used for drops) and more towards an EvE style market.

You could have a number of mercenary + trading factions under the "traders/miners/mercanary" faction.

You could even be a ferengi trader ;).

There combat skills alone would be bad, but for defence you could have "Nausican mercanary cruiser assistance" abilites (hired bodyguards n such).

Scrap the current crafting system as to be totally honest its terrible, and let the crafting for both klingons and federation (or any other new factions) to be done by this 3rd neutral faction.

    +1 for a good idea,

Give it a rest with all these "New Factions"-thread. Don't give Cryptic any funny ideas until they straighten up and fix the god-damn Klingon Empire faction.

Unfortunately, it all comes to this. But, yes, a sandbox based on trek universe would be great, especially having in mind how much source material there is.

But I'm not that bothered about the Klingon stuff. Thought I'd share what interests me.
