I don't quit!

I'm going to ragestay! While I do agree with some of the posts around here, I have also come to terms that this game has been retail for less than a month (counting Headstart). I expect many of the issues to be ironed out over time. This is also not my first MMO and I have seen horribly worse launches where total server uptime was fragmented across multiple server crash downtimes in a single day.

I don't think Cryptic has dropped the ball on keeping the game available for those that want to be here and want to play. What I continue to see though is a mob mentality, asking for the game to be rewritten to suit individual tastes, and mass exodus when a personal response is not given within 5 minutes of ranting/opening a ticket/posting "I quit" threads.

On the flipside, what I also see and continue to see is the worst side of people, both for and against this game. I'm not going to argue semantics or bring up specific examples, most of you might know what I'm referring to.

So I offer this:

If you are going to quit... then try not to convince me that your experience of the game simply has to be mine. Flaming the devs and ranting, sometimes incoherently, does nothing to further the experience of those that are staying, nor does it provide any useful feedback to anybody associated with producing this game. If you feel you have something really important to say on your way "out the door" then call them or email them how they let you down, why, and how they can fix it.

I personally do not care if your PVP experience is "broke and unbalanced", I don't PVP. I also don't care that your gameplay issues, not bugs, but mechanics, do not suit your tastes. You had Beta and Headstart to leave. You can't realistically expect everything fixed by the end of 30 days, let alone the first week.

Please stop waving around your piddly $15/mo fee and act like you are a personal shareholder/major investor in the project. Oh wait, you bought the game? Actually you bought a license to the software that allows you access to the server. Read the EULA if you doubt me as most software works this way.

If you are going to stay...ignore the quit threads. The horse is dead so you can stop beating it. Let's try to improve this game productively. Please stop scaring the devs away from the forums. They want to listen to what is said, but they do not want to be jumped every time they post in a thread. Think about how the game experience can be improved for the entire STO community, not just your personal tastes.

We do have a large collective voice and if we want improvement then we need to use it effectively.

I could probably write this long enough that people will not read it through so I'll stop here. I will check back on this thread if it goes anywhere. I will not respond to flames. If you are looking to get a rise from me, you aren't going to get one.

The only thing I do not much care for in this game is the so called Warping. It's nothing like I expected. I would have rather had an experience that more closely resembled what you see in the movies or television shows. That is my constructive criticism.

Other than that, I am not rage staying, I am simply staying till this game dies out....if ever.

It won't be a /ragequit for people ... it will just be a quiet migration away from the game.

You'll always have the few that have to come into these boards and /ragequit ... but most will just cap out, do some raidisodes for a while, try a little PvP ... playing less and less, until they find themselves playing something else more.

You can't go by the /ragequit posts ... what you have to look at is the people who are staying, but still angry. Why? Because those are the people who want the game to be successful and are still upset.

Damn. Beat me to it. Guess I'll say:

Why do we have to look at them?
Looking at angry people is depressing.

I am staying and am not angry.

In 99% of the ragequit threads I've read, the submitter either:
    • Lacks patience (Expecting things to be 100% owesome on day 1)
    • Annoyed that STO doesn't play exactly like they wanted it
    • I suspect many of them are under the age of 20, so they have yet to figure out that the world doesn't revolve around them.

In a nutshell, I haven't seen many reasonable or mature ragequit threads.

Well, you don't have to look at it personally ... it was a generic statement.

I understand where you're coming from on the "depressing" part ... but I like to think that I can look past the "in your face" wording most complaint threads take, and look at what the real issue is.

A 100 people posting "there's no content" doesn't necessarily mean there is no content ... it could mean its not the content they want to play, or it could mean the content that is there, is not challenging enough, or entertaining enough.

And the thing is ... you have to see 100 different versions of "there is no content" posts, before you start to see a picture emerge of what the real problem is.

Then again, the real problem might be, "there is not content!" :p

Personally I'll just be glad when most of the free time is over in the first couple of weeks in March. Maybe the game will be able to be played with the chat bar opened. I swear the hate spam outnumbers the gold spam at times. Good riddance.

Can't wait. MMOs improve so much when the "free users" leave.
