So I have been reading posts and playing this game since open-beta. During this whole time when ever anyone expresses any anger about the state of this game they are met with many different excuses as to why it is this way. Now it is my personal opinion that once I have paid money for something (anything) that I get what I payed for. I trusted that the bug reports submitted during open beta would be resolved and not left lingering 2 weeks after release.
With my purchase of this game I should as of the release day, be able to log in and play my character without the kind of blatant problems that continue in this game. But instead we are told by the DEV's "hey we know there are major issues but we are working on them". Then from the game's community it's "oh well just because it was released and you paid money for it does not mean that you actually get to do that until estimated time 4 weeks to 6 months because this is an MMO".
Now I am not naive in thinking that the game should be perfect at release, but most of the issues seen on the official launch day were reported before then and overlooked. Why should we have to wait for content. The game should have been released with enough content to keep it's player base playing for more than 30 days, and not with 1.5 factions. They should have only had to iron out things that had been missed in testing then bringing out extra expansions/content.
It still confuses me that there are people who defend this kind of aversive behavior that Cryptic has displayed towards us consumers of their product. At this point I feel that I just took command of a star ship that left dry dock without a warp core but I am assured that it will be installed next Tuesday. It also turns out that I left dry dock without a tractor beam, medical staff, or photon torpedo's. But once again was assured that they will be installed on Tuesday.
In closing I guess those that blindly defend this game are more interested in a space arcade shoot them up style MMO than an actual star trek MMO. this is where i prefer illusion to despair.
That sounds about right, I wish I could go back in time and not have played this game, so that way I could have at least finally had the illusion of a good Star Trek game, but alas I cannot so I am left with this shell of a game. Now don't get me wrong I like the game but it is is not epoch by any means, like I thought it was going to be.
bravo, excellent post, agreed on all points. Thank you for taking the time to articulate how many of us feel towards this entire state of affairs. It has given a voice to many who cannot or will not write in your manner.
Why are you posting this in the gameplay forum? I would suggest either the Ten Forward area for this or the Star Trek Online Discussion section. After all, you are not commenting about the gameplay, just on how you feel about it.
However, I do agree with you that the game has problems. However, even as the game is right now, if they never change a single thing from this point on, I will still prefer it to Eve Online.

This forum is for feedback on gameplay and I found that feedback refreshing, and I think this thread is in the right place, IMO.

I am posting this inside the General Gameplay because while this post was about my opinion it is in regards to the way people respond to those that are trying to give constructive criticism in this forum.

OMG dude anything looks good compared to Eve Online. Have you ever played freelancer? As far as im concerned freelancer was a better game than this and even many of the mods made by fans today are better than this. The only reason I don't still play it is because the communities of those mods are usually very political, strict, and not enough players compared to a MMO.

No in this one minor rare occasion i kept my sarcasm in check.

I am sick of the consumer product BS and the fact that you think you deserve more than what you got for your money. They developed a MMO. You can login, you can create a character and interact with other players online. This is what you paid for weather you like it or not.
That said, the game is shallow. It is no where near a real Star Trek game. It is just combat online in ST skins. There are no choices to be made by players other than kill kill kill. The combat is fun, so I can deal with that. I know what I paid for and hope that the dev's will continue to develop this game. That is all I can expect form my initial purchase.
The game has light years to go to be a great MMO. I am not happy that only one aspect of Star Trek made it in the game. It is missing what makes Star Trek, Star Trek. But that has nothing to do with the consumer product BS you are spewing. Bight the bullet and say you made a bad investment and move on. Or make suggestions to improve the product. It is up to you.

I stopped reading at the bolded part. The fact is we do deserve a lot more. To login, create a character, and interact there are free MMOs out there that I can do that on. We all payed for star trek content which should be at least a months worth and we clearly didnt even get that. What we did get was an unfinished and very buggy game with practically no service when a problem arises.

What you are sick of matters to the sum of zero, people have issues and they are myriad, maybe it is you who can be satisfied with the bare minimum, but some of us are not. To say they developed a MMO is an understatement more like they cloned an already existing MMO (CO) and skinned it up for a Star Trek IP.

Has nothing to do with what you think you deserve. I agree with the fact that the game is far from where it needs to be. But you received what you paid for. It is a working MMO. It is not a great MMO, but you can install the game and play it.
We all want a better game. We all want more Star Trek in our Star Trek. You just can not use the product/consumer excuse. Just because a product is TRIBBLE doesn't mean you didn't get what you paid for. It is just TRIBBLE and now you are out the money you spent. How about all the people that buy the late night infomercial TRIBBLE. They paid for a product and received that product.
I am not saying players should not be angry. Just find a better excuse. Complain about the lack of content. Complain about a lack of player options. Complain about last minute changes and omissions to the game. Just don't preach about what you deserve because you gave someone your money.

It is not that I want more than what I paid for it is the fact that I paid for a product and was given less than what I paid for. Have you seen the advertisements for this game, they are clearly misleading as to what is involved with this game.
While yes it is true that they are continuing to fix things, they can not fix the game engine that runs the game. That will never change.
As to your point that i should bite the bullet and accept that i made a bad investment, i will not. Because that is exactly the problem. Company's now feel that it is alright to do exactly this type of thing. There is such a thing as being held accountable. And this is why there are such things as the Better Business Bureau.

You might want to reread my post, do some research, and think about it before you post again. It has everything to do with what myself and a great deal of the other players think they deserve. The fact is for a MMO we got less than what is standard for a MMO. I'm glad you are content with what you put into this MMO but some of us arent in denial. I would go on but you can refer to Halethyr's post for further correction.

I agree with regular products. But this is an entertainment product. It is not a tangible product that at any point you can say it is now done. A MMO is never done. That is why companies will continue to create MMO's the same way. It is capitalism at it's best. It is corporate greed and the chase of the almighty dollar that destroys quality.
I agree with you that the game was rushed and is no where near what we all want to see. But every gamer that buys an MMO knows that it will probably suck at launch. Most gamers also know that the game can and will change over time. Letting the devs know what you would like to see changed and letting them know often is a great way to fix what doesn't work. But I believe that the devs are not completely to blame. It is always the ones that write the check. Those with money get to do what they want when they want and how they want. It is sad but true.
You can try to fight against this practice all you want. It will be like throwing rocks in the Grand Canyon. Weather or not the game fails doesn't matter to the ones with the money. They will take their money and run. That leaves the dev company out on the street, but the backers make out like bandits as usual.
Getting players to voice there opinions about game play and what to change is the best way to help make a game better. Fighting against the man, especially sense it is the wrong man is not going to get you anything.

You may want to read all my posts. I am not content with this game. I think it is not even close to what the game should be. It is very shallow with few options. And I would like to to have much much more than what it has.
I am with you and many others that what a lot more in this game and many changes. I just don't like the angle you chose for your fight against this game.
You are right. It's also my theory about the extreme level of fanboiism at this forums that they spent an insane amount of money for the box of the game - and now they are rationalizing their (bad) decision to do so by apologizing for Cryptic.
Some even went as far as paying for a lifetime sub. Almost priceless a fail of the epic kind.
(The laugh is always on the loser.)
I was tempted to do the same, btw... I stayed with the game for a few days, but at some point I simply couldn't deny the fact that it's all bland, shallow smoke and mirrors here anymore.
You know... 10 missions with "kill 5 ships of a type I couldn't care less for" in series is not only boring, it's an insult.
Now I started Runes of Magic - and guess what... there is (amazing) crafting there, there is immersion, there even is density, a strong multiplayer aspect. I'm even developing different skill rotations for my level 20 mage for all kinds of encounters, did a dungeon run (killed a countess or something like that, was great fun with a big group), grew a few plants and all that.
I am with you and many others that what a lot more in this game and many changes. I just don't like the angle you chose for your fight against this game.
So basically because people did not chose the angle you did, you felt the need to tell people that you are sick of their point of view?

Not every MMO is so disjointed at launch, and those that are do not last very long unless the changes to the game are huge and made to make the game more enjoyable. Not just to keep everyone from discontinuing their subscriptions with the promise of more content and fixes.
The community has continously expressed what could and can be done to help the playability of this game and we have gotten little to no reponse to much of that. The reponses we have recieved have been, we will look into that, not possible and look for things that are coming soon.
While yes the investors are the ones that control the money they do not control content. The only way to hurt them is to hurt their wallets. In order to do that sometimes we need to self distruct our ship instead of just simply abandoning it.

Don't kid yourself friend, I tend to not bother to read all of what someone who uses weather in the place of whether. Haha OMG I actually decided to give you a chance and read some of you one post yeah what a joke. You clearly don't have as much MMO experience as you would have us believe or you wouldn't even be able to call STO a MMO.

I learned one thing in my mmo history...just as you think it is an easy fix doesnt mean it actually IS an easy fix..programming is very complex. Its not simply changing a value in a database, it can affect totally different game systems. There is not one "Master Developer"...there is a team..all working on different parts of the game/code/graphics/stories/sounds. There are deadlines, reports etc. They are only humans, working and they do not work 24h/day. Human resources are limited by life and the numbers of people depend on money which is also limited.
Dont get me wrong, im not pro/contra sto but i know that things take time, its not "i suggest something" and *ding* its done by 200 Devs who work 24/day dont sleep and dont eat and want no money.
I'll try to be short and to the point on this. I have scratched my head quite a few times while browsing these threads. Normally, Im looking for ideas from seasoned players directed at the Devs promoting improvements they/we would like to see in the game. More often than not, I fall into these threads.
I want to preface this by saying that i agree wholeheartedly that this game is empty of content and does the Star Trek franchise a horrible disservice. Boring and repetitive on levels WoW can only dream of, and I personally think WoW is the biggest PoS out there for MMO's.
What I want to know is...how many of you ACTUALLY thought you could turn a storied franchise of some 44 years, with all the depth and story arcs contained therein, into a PLAYABLE MMO? Note that when I say playable, I'm referring to the fact that if you have played WoW you have played AOL, DAoC, Everquest, AoC etc., even if you havent. All modern MMO's are cookie cutter designs with different packaging. Who here actually thought you could have traditional roles (Tank, healer, DPS) portrayed and implemented by STARSHIPS? Puhlease!
Cryptic may or may not make cra**y games; I havent even bothered to give CO/CoH/CoV even a casual glance because thats not my genre. What I do know is that apparently Cryptic only invested somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.5 years developing this game. That alone should have told the majority of the bitter people on these forums not to get their hopes up. Then we have CB, OB, and head start. If that wasn't enough to clue you in I dont know what will.
For me, I enjoy the game bugs and all because I can take a little time out of my day and fly my TOS Connie...an Icon that I grew up with and aesthetically brings back fond memories. This is a game, and over the last 15 years I can think of many games that stunk so bad I didnt want to take them outta the box. STO may or may not fall into that category. My advice: if its not your thing, go back to WoW or whatever floats your boat. Personally, I may be headed back to EvE (groan) . There are much better things to do than rant and throw tantrums in a misguided hope for change.

The OP didn't say that they should fix it immediately, I think you missed the OP's point. The OP said maybe some acknowledgment from Cryptic would go a long way but all we get his generic answers and silence.

They actually did....there are multiple dev responses about this problems. There was even a thread today where a player compiled all this responses. And what should they answer except "we are working on it"? Should they post code fragments? Raw graphic files? What do they have to say to satisfy everyone? And even if they would post once an hour, there will be some guy who says "stop posting and get to work"
I said it multiple times...designing a mission, for example will take lots of time and manpower, but completing this mission will take minutes and only one person.
Id love to go away, as soon as cryptic refunds my 300dollars, they wont have to see me again. like in reality if someone rips me off, they arent allowed to bounce away in joy, licking their tongue as they count my money.

They cannot win the content war.
Oh jeez, I am going to say it, quit defending them, you aren't being paid. I have done game programming and I know what it entails, and it is not hard for Cryptic to say this is what we have planned. So far all they say is New Content Coming Soon so Stay Tuned. Give me a frakin' break, if you were a lawyer paid to defend Cryptic I would say right on, but you are just a gamer like us and you blindly make excuses for this witless prattle spewing from Cryptic's mouth, I mean why, what do you get out of it?

Im interested in your /played time.
you spend $300...lets say an average game costs $50 (here in europe 60 Euro)...so 300/50 = 6 games at all
and now pretend every of the 6 games has a playtime of 20 hours (in reality its more like 8-10, oh and i know..there are rpg's with 100+ hours...but i talk about average games).

And in STO?
*spacebar* *spacebar* *spacebar* *spacebar*
*spacebar* *spacebar* *spacebar* *spacebar*
*spacebar* *spacebar* *spacebar* *spacebar*
*yawning* *yawning*
*spacebar* *spacebar* *spacebar* *spacebar*
*spacebar* *spacebar* *spacebar* *spacebar*
*spacebar* *spacebar* *spacebar* *spacebar*
*yawning* *yawning*
*fail, oh fail, oh noes, it's a fail*
Rinse and repeat. Don't think it's about badgers, mushrooms or snakes, thats just an illusion.
So basically because people did not chose the angle you did, you felt the need to tell people that you are sick of their point of view?
You clearly don't have as much MMO experience as you would have us believe or you wouldn't even be able to call STO a MMO.
......QFT.......
Personally, I may be headed back to EvE (groan)
just my 2 cents....
Im interested in your /played time.
you spend $300...lets say an average game costs $50 (here in europe 60 Euro)...so 300/50 = 6 games at all
and now pretend every of the 6 games has a playtime of 20 hours (in reality its more like 8-10, oh and i know..there are rpg's with 100+ hours...but i talk about average games).
so 20 * 6 = 120
120 Hours of gameplay
and now tell me..whats your /played ? *g*
so you still feel ripped ?
