30 Day Game Time Included?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Greetings!

I'm hoping someone can help me. I bought the Collector's Edition of the game and on the box it says that "30 Days Game Time Included". I participated in the pre-order beta and now that the free play is over I cannot play until I enter in a Game Card Key or subscribe.

Am I missing something or was there supposed to be a key somewhere in the box. I can't find one other then the 3 guess passes that came with it. Please help!

Thanks in advance!

In order to receive the free 30 days, you must enter a subscription with a credit card or a game card. Essentially, if you just want to try out the 30 days (highly recommended) just enter your cc info and then after it accepts the retail code, go back and cancel your subscription. It will give you a checkbox option to play the remaining time, which is your 30 days.

    Hope that helps.

    Nope you're not missing anything.

If you look at the back of the game case you'll find the words "Subscription required" (somewhere in small lettering) I was like you, hoping I could use the 30 day time without entering payment details or signing up for a subsciption and instead playing through time cards.

I got around it by signing up, entering credit card details, then once you're all activated; you can delete the credit/debit card payment option from your profile. Then if you wish to pay via a different method you can buy time cards nearer the 30 day time up.

Yep, it is how most games verify your age requirements. No CC, Not old enough or don't have parents permissions.

So if I purchased a 60 day card will that work? If so, should I see 90 days of play time?

    Thanks again for responding.

If you purchased a 60 day time card, then when to activate your game using the Key provided in the box, picked the "play by time card" option that is available, used the time card key - then yes you'll get 90 days of play time and won't have to enter debit/credit card details.

So I'm only seeing the following choices:

    Recurring Subscription
    $299.99 USD Lifetime
    $77.94 USD Recurring 6-Month
    $41.97 USD Recurring 3-Month
    $14.99 USD Recurring 1-Month

    Non Recurring Subscription
    Game Card

So should I be chosing the "Non Recurring Subscription - Game Card" option?

    Thanks in advance!

There is a game key in the back of the hardbound manual. You do need to enter that.

From there, you need a credit card and billing info or a gametime card but you can remove the credit card from your account afterwards.

if you have a game card pick NoN Recurring, if not use a credit / debit card and pick a sub, IT WILL NOT BE CHARGE UNTILL YOU'RE TIME IS UP. and welcome to the game. :)

I just bought the game and seeing as it comes with 30 days subscription i didnt see the need to buy a game card until next month. However, i cant register the game without buying a gamecard? I bought the game to try it out for one month... if i didnt like it i dont want to have to pay for another month of game time. Am i missing somthing or is this just somthing you guys do to receive more money by making people buy game cards at the time of purchase? I cant think of any other MMO that would do this.

EDIT: After some searching around i found on the forums that i do have to purchase a game card inorder to receive my 30 days that was included with buying the game. I could understand why you guys would do this if it had to be a credit card to verify age requirements but a 5 year old can buy a game card so to me this would be just a scam to get players to buy more game time that they may/maynot use. Capt. Kirk would not be impressed and Spock would say "That is illogical."

umm get a credit card and use that. it is the same way with all MMOs that I have played. you have to have a valid credit card on file. if you don't have that then your other option is paypal, and a time card.

it's not a scam it how things work in the industry.

Not sure what MMOs you are playing but WOW, EQ, EQ2, APB, and LOTRO (to name a few) all come with a free month when purchased the retail box. when you register the key in all these games you get your free month right away without providing a credit card, paypal account, or gamecard.

Edit: I played LOTRO before it went free to play.

all of those ask for a credit card.. you see they don't charge your credit card until after the month is over. if you don't have one then you have to use a game time card, or a pre pay credit card. but I assure you those games ask for a credit card before you get your free time. ( FYI WOW sets the standards for MMOs )

IS there still the paypal option at subscription time? that allows you to get around that, and I would say worse case you can always get like one of those walmart money cards and have a few bucks on that.

They do have the opton to pay for the subscription with a credit card yes. But what i'm trying to get across and what this post is all about is that you dont have to provide a creditcard or anyother form of payment until you want more time (usually with the month of free time it up) The difference here is that they ask you to provide it before you get to use up your one month free time. I've played alot of MMOs and never had to provide a credit card until my free time was up. If you think that you do then i don't know what to say to you except i'm only stating my encounters with MMOs over the past 10-12 years i've been playing them.

I know that if i dont have a credit card i can use other methods of payment but thats not my gripe here so please stop going over the methods of payment. But all and all thanks for your reply Its nice to see someone who isnt trolling and flaming new posters for once.

    .

it could be where you live. Are you outside of the US? I know here on the west coast I had to provide a credit card for WOW, EVE, SWG, STO, POtBS, EQ2, and a few others. Maybe the laws are different where you live? ( as some say paypal is an option so maybe that is why it is different for you then last time because with paypal you get your free time first. )

I do live outside the us.. In Canada. You've had to provide a credit card to play WoW? and before getting your one month free when you bought the game?

I bought WoW when the game first came out (yes i waited for 8 hours outside eb games in vancouver) and back then i had to use time cards and they didnt even have those out yet when i first got it. When i got home i signed up, logged in and played without ever having to use any credit card or anything else. Only was until the one month free gametime was up that i had to buck up and get a game card.

Another instance is just recently when i bought APB... after installing, subscribing (without a credit card or pay pal or game card being asked of me) , and updating. I was able to play the game for 50 hours before i had to buy anything. APB is a unique game in the way it's paid for but still... bought retail box = got to play the game. Not bought the retail box and game card = got to play for 2 months weather you wanted to or not.

But my point being is that the game should come with free time (which it does) and you should be able to play it for the month with out having to provide anything. You've already spent the money on the game and after the month is up you should be able to choose if you want to keep paying for it. With this one you either have to provide a credit card with a positive balance on it or spend the money on the second month of play time before you've decided to play that long.

Well i'm hooked up now and playing but this whole thing is unique to me. I would have bought a time card when i got the game if i had any clue that this is the way they made it. It says on the box "subscription required - 30days game time included with purchase." What it should say is "paid subscription is required - 30 days game time included with purchase."

yes sir I had to provide a card. it sounds like your laws lets you get it for free. Cryptic is the first one to offer paypal that I have seen, so that mite be why you have to provide a card. ( because paypal provides the ability to get it free without the card, or something like that. )

but yes all the games I have had to play so far have asked for a card first.
