A more "opened up" Auto-fire IS coming

Yeah, I know, many have probably spotted the post by Zinc. However, in the interest of keeping players up to date (and to stem incorrect information flowing), heres the info:

....In fact, we're actively looking into opening up the auto-fire feature like you guys have been asking for. It'll probably be a little but before we release a solution though.....

Hope Zinc doesn't mind me "editing out" the bits that weren't appropriate.

Please excuse me if I don't see it but you have a link? My eyes are a bit screwy after having visited the eye doc a bit ago. One of the tests he did required that my focusing ability be temporarily paralyzed and it hasn't worn off yet. (trying to get LASIK surgery done) So if the link is there I'm sorry for asking. Also I apologize for any spelling errors. I'm typing mainly by rote of the keyboard.

It doesn't matter for the higher end players. Most of us have already set up auto-fire macros.

At this point giving all players some version of the autofire all option (which was a 4 line macro) is just an equalizer, allowing them to do what many others are already doing.

It is supposedly a bannable offense to use that macro until they release an in game autofire. Coderanger (IIRC) has been very explicit about that.

The little arrows beside Zincs name in the quotes can take you to it. But considering you're situation here's a direct link:

Hope your eyes get better soon so you can enjoy the game more :)

    Yup.

The issue isn't as simple as "Use macros/scripts" vs. not (and I'm pretty sure you know why). If you make a macro button to chain three emotes together (which is something I think /bind can't do since it requires delays), no one will mind and you will be fine. If you make a macro that (somehow) gets you to max level automatically, clearly thats not okay. Pretty much anything between that is, and will remain, a gray area. What if instead of three emotes, it was a combat skill and an emote. Thats probably okay. What if it was two combat skills? Probably not so okay, since it could give you an edge in combat. That said, we do have cooldowns in place so that you can't spam things magically, but it would depend on how much of an advantage you got. If it was enough that we noticed, that probably means it was too much. We do analyze a lot of statistic from the game, and if you are performing noticeably better than expected we will go figure out why. Maybe you just found some tactic that we didn't think of (cue nerf bat), or maybe you somehow have superhuman reflexes (cue ban hammer).

However, the quote below best sums it up:

Our policy is exactly what you would think it is: you can use whatever keyboard you want. Any form of automation of gameplay is grounds for a ban, and "I thought this macro would be okay" won't hold up as an excuse. Basically if you are using macros to do anything more complex than our existing /bind system already does for you, you are probably doing something you shouldn't. If you have to ask the question "Will I get banned for this?" the answer is almost always "Yes". As for if we will ever ban someone simply because they have sneezed near a G15, no.

In other words, if you use a macro which gives you an unfair advantage in progressing in the game over other people, be prepared to reap what you sow. You may get banned.

However, with specific regards to the "auto-fire bug", Zinc is letting it slide from the moment, until they implement the more "opened up" auto-fire functionality. Check the link for the quote for proof.

Thank God... after hitting Captain it was just getting game-breaking. I had to give my wife my G19 keyboard so she wouldn't hurt her hands, but mine are about ready to fall off!
