Well after running around using the scanner I would like to see a bit of functionality added to it.

At the moment it will point to the nearest usable object regardless of whether it is an anomaly, crate or mission objective.

How about making it so you can set the scanner to point to what you need? Like only point to objectives. That way the people who don't want to worry about running around grabbing all the anomaly samples can ignore them.

yes yes, we need faster ways to zerk tru missions, so when everyone finishes them, they can complain about no content.

How about we go back to how it was in beta and we had no scanner? All you could do was 'scan area' in the map screen and get the number of anomalies on the current map. No indication whatsoever of where they were.

Stop complaining about what we have and be grateful that we have it.

Press F to do everything seems to have been designed with a console in mind. While it might work for a 360, it's a bit boring for a MMO on the PC. Having different abilities to use would have been nice.

Pressing the F key or one gamepad button shouldn't be the whole experience of using a tricorder / ship scanner. Various functionality can be made accessible to both console and pc users with only a slight addition to the functionality.

e.g. You are asked to scan for "Crusher Particles".

    1) You press the appropriate button to activate your tricorder / ship science station and a UI appears which is representative of a tricorder or simplistic science console.

    2) You select the kind of scan to perform. Imagine a list of various scan configurations and you'll have the idea. The required selection can then be highlighted using the up and down game pad / the cursor keys / single-clicking on the option use the mouse. In either case, a tooltip pops up to detail the type of scan selected.

Double clicking on a scan type or pressing the appropriate "select" button on the gamepad or keyboard results in performing the scan of that type. Only the correct scan type will actually give the correct results. All others would result in nothing being detected.

    3) As a side note: if the devs wanted, they could make things more interesting in that certain "particles" can only be detected using a combination of different scan types (i.e. multple selections made when accessing the tricorder).
