Sadly, I am departing the pattern ...

I had huge hopes and expectations for this game, but sadly I feel mislead by the Dev Interviews running up prior to game release. I won't rehash my "walls of text" as they can be found if anyone is interested. Not sure how long they will honor refunds, but after spending hours on hold I was able to get a full refund for my Lifetime Subscription. I just don't feel this game will ever get to the level that I had hoped or was implied by Cryptic. Unfortunately, the Gamespot and IGN reviews are dead-on and pretty much sums up what I've been frustrated at since Beta. Hopefully I will eat my words and this game will turn around into something wonderful, but I just see too many fundamental issues that would require starting from scratch to fix. If Cryptic chooses to go that route, I will be back but sadly I don't believe that will happen.

Retiring my commission from Star Fleet is very bittersweet ...

You are not the only one saddened by the realization that this game is just another factory-line mmo. Cancelled my sub today. On the bright side, here is a game that truly looks like it will be an awsome space mmo...check it out.

Looks like the Dev's really put some thought and effort into it.

I also canceled my 3 months today. I think too many small negatives have simply added up for me. The lockout timers and instance change made last night kind of were the last straw.

I'll have a look in after my time runs out I'm sure, I'd love to see the game fleshed out in time.

What no "can I have your stuff?" yet? Amazing...I only check these silly "I'm leaving!" threads to laugh at the great comments people make....

Oh and way to waste your money:

Star Trek Online - Collector's Edition
    Star Trek Online Lifetime Subscription

How about giving it more than a few weeks before tossing in the towel? :p

I'll give it my "free" 30 days for sure. I'll log in and do my daily until then. So no towel throwing until my month's play is up!:)

Why? I never thought I would say this about an mmo, but, I am finished...the game is completed...there is nothing left for me to do. I guess I could sign in every day and do my PvE daily and wait 4-6 hours to complete my PvP daily.

Not a waste of money. I was refunded my lifetime subscription, so I'm out $80 for the CE. I'm one of the old ones and can afford it. I just don't think the $240 was a good investment with my belief of where this game is going. Not that some things won't be fixed, but there are too many foundational design flaws that will be much more challenging to fix.

Between all the lifetime refunds, and the people cancelling after the first week in March, they aren't going to have enough money to invest in this game to make it decent.

Meh. I'm staying, but I didn't make a thread about that.

I should probably quit the forums though. It's a handful of people on either side of the fence *****ing at each other, no moderators to speak of 90% of the time, no communication from Cryptic 95% of the time, and no free pie.

hmm how strange...people are telling me that there are more people that love this game than hate it...but I see more and more people posting they are quitting the game and stating their reasons why vs those that are staying and loving it.

To be honest, that's why I asked for a lifetime refund. Because of all the game issues the playerbase is going to dwindle quickly and because of the bad publicity/reviews, many people will never give it a chance. That is a bad formula for future success and massive sweeping changes to the game.

Even though I don't feel cryptic are offering a game worth a monthly fee currently, I still think it could turn into one. I just hope that CO was what we suspected, a cash cow for this game, and the lack of development there will not be repeated here.

They'll have enough mega-fans and LT's to keep afloat absolutely. So those of us who wait will have a better game to come back to one day.

That says a great deal about your inability to make decisions and act on them. You don't like the game, but you will continue to play as long as you can.

This says a lot about your inability to reason.

I paid for the time, i will use it. Each day I have 45 minutes of gameplay allowed by a daily.

He doesn't see the need to invest financially in the future of the game. Stop being obtuse and stop reading things into the motivations of others. It is a game, no need to go offending and attacking other people because you like the game more than... everybody else.

Because people who are happy/satisfied with a product don't ***** and complain on forums. In fact most players don't visit the forums at all, which is why you still see in-game chat about Sulu's location and where the neutral zone is.

As usual with MMOs - and I hope Cryptic is reading this - the vocal minority of unhappy players about a myriad of niche-level issues is what the vast majority of official forums are made of. Listening to them is a surefire way to run the game into the ground. They are spoiled brats that want the game they imagined, and want it now, so they throw a fit and yell about quitting (which most really never do) thinking it will get mommy and daddy to make it right.

I too had (and actually have) high hopes for the game. I fear that the forums will be the biggest detractor from the games success as everybody willing to take the time to provide feedback and criticism is attacked with fervor from the people afraid that if they admit the game has problems it will magically vanish. It will make affecting change within the game very difficult. Even if that "change" is simply adding on to the content that exists without changing the game itself.

I too have canceled my account, partially because of the people here on the forums that feel the need to abuse anybody that dare say a word against Cryptic or the game. Mostly because I simply ran out of things to do. I could sit here waiting for tidbits of new content to become available or I could give the game a few months then check it out again.

The game might be worth $15 a month... but it isn't worth it right now.

Listen to the anger in this one, lol. It has interpreted this thread as "screaming", it trotted out the "mommy and daddy" chestnut. No one trolls like a fired up mega-fan. Oh my!

I imagine at least 50% of the population doesn't resub come the 30 days. Most because they've already done everything there is to do already.

There are things needing fixing but a lot of what I hear reminds me of something that happened to a game long long ago in a galaxy far far away.

When the Devs made a radical change in that game it was the worst thing ever done in an MMO in history... Except maybe WAR. (Now that was a disappointment)

I am pretty close to doing the same thing. I am going to give them one more patch day, which is next week, before I cancel the LT sub. I was underwhelmed with this last patch. I look at CO, and see the path being similar for STO. I view CO as getting neglected for STO, and I see STO facing the same dilemma as they go on to their next MMO project. For me, I am not seeing the class difference to warrant interesting alt play too. They all seem the same to me.

So, by your reasoning, he doesn't like the state of the game so he should leave and never look back. You are so upset personally that he dislikes the game that you will go as far as making analogies with the intent of pushing him away from the game forever.

So I ask you, which is better? That he is willing to continue watching the game to see if it improves or that he follow your advice and just uninstall the game and storm off.

    Which seems more mature?

yep until the 30 days is up...then we are outta here.

Hit RA then speak bud, even after the dailies here is nothing, you cant PvP cause most of the Klingons left as there is **** to do at RA.

just log in and look at the queues fro Feds...don't forget there is no end game, all t3-t4 skills were built around the notion that there was going to be NO skill cap. but once they added a cap they didnt revamp any of the abilities to coincide with this new paradigm.

the game is unfinished...i would love to see some of those reviewers get to RA cause form the looks of the 2 highest reviews they were on Commanders.

The the mother of all the TRIBBLE ups for this game limited 360 degree movement...tell me how it is okay for there to be a pitch limit in a space game...EXACTLY it isn't okay!!!

No, I'm saying the game isn't worth a monthly fee, so when my time is up, I won't pay it. Is that really so hard to understand?

I know you guys feel the "must defend game klaxons" in your ears, but you need a valid point of contention. This one is bust.
