hello i purchased the game a couple of days ago i installed it with no trouble but the launcher auto update has been running for 24 hours now . now don't laugh my internet has been slowed/capped and it currently downloading at 7kb per sec :( . so my question is how big is the launcher update file  if i leave it long enough will it get there in the end or does it need broadband speeds to connect . i have run a net-test and i got 7kb on every port download speeds come back in a week :( thank you to any one who can help

I am having exactly the same problem, and all I can find from the forums is to run the nettest which I have done - but there are no solutions at all out there that I can find after 3 hours of searching google!

Is it actually patching? Because if you start patching after you have installed teh dvd, theres around 2 GB of files. So basically it's goig gto take you a LONG time to download at 7 kb/s (We're talking months, possible years here )

You need tog et in touch with your ISP. There is a serious problem on your line to get a ping of 750msecs. Eiher you are being heavily throttled, or you are a victim of traffic shaping.

I fyou contact your ISP, dont speak to anyone at the front desk, be cool and firm, and ask to be put through to a senior technician or their supervisor. Don't let them say your line is working fine, because your tracert results say otherwise.

If you are on satellite Internet, then im afraid, the only thing you can do is get rid of it, and get cable or dsl.

Ahh gotcha. Thats a different problem.

If you are stuck with the box in the corner of your screen, then you have a firewall/router/av software blocking it, or your ISP is hard restricting the ports it needs.

i have turned off my firewall and my avg this morning and let it run but nothing
when it comes to opening ports i am a little Noob i couldn't work out how to do it so i ran the net-test hoping that if one of the ports was not open it would time out (very limited knowledge :p ) and i dont think it would be my isp as i use bigpond witch is the biggest isp in Australia and their would be more people with the problem if that was the case

    nah that doesn't seem right. I played the game till last night perfectly, then this morning I got up and I got the same little message box;

    Cryptic Launcher Autoupdate.

    Trying to update the launcher.
    Please be patient.
    Tried connecting 11 times.

Ok the eleven times is just random as it read at the moment. Does this provide any help in solving this?

I know you have already done nettest but please go through my list here

If you are getting into the launcher and are able to start a download, please follow the console information so we can see what it is doing. Paste that here.

Also, keep in mind your ISP may do some throttling by resetting connections. This would cause some major problems downloading files as you can imagine.

well thank you for your help..

i don't actually get into the launcher the launcher its self it's just trying to update it ..but never does
i don't use vista etc (im xp) but i moved the folder out of that directory just in case but no change
i cant change the proxy settings cause i don't actually get in to the launcher
using administrator no change and have tried disabling all my firewalls/AV

and with your idea of my ISP throttling by resetting connections i really would not no
but i download all the time and i have no problem with it

i also have a copy of champions on line witch is not installed on my computer do they use the same
launcher could i install champions and see if the launcher comes with it ?

other then that im all out of ideas

Yes, look in the game directory and find the latest entries for patchxfer.log and pcl.log

They will be at the end of the files with a date of 100220 and the time should be GMT. Post the ones from the last time you ran the patch update if they are in there.

Its 12.44 on the 20th Feb here in the UK and Im getting exactly the same problem. Ive played the game fine, no problems, hardly any lag or server complications and downloaded all the various patches for STO in the past. My wifes a WoW fan and plays it alll the time on this computer with no probs but at the moment, ive just been staring at the Cryptic Launcher Autoupdate box in the corner of the screen with growing frustration. I think what the most annoying thing is that a lot of us have no idea for the reason this happens and that after we post these problems we never seem to get a resolution. True, even if we did know we may not be able to fix it but at least knowing whats wrong would make it a little easier. I hope that made sense ;)

Thanks for that Milehighscott. Checked all the options on your post, im running the net test now and im getting really slow speeds ( Its not finished yet ) For example port 7255 got :- 6kb 0kb 6kb

Im taking it that this is an ISP problem or could the router settings have anything to do with it?
It just seems odd that Ive been playing the game with no hassle and now this springs up

ISP changes thier traffic shapping software. also a lot will increasse shaping on peak times during the day and on weekends.
Plus they upgrade thier router /software/hardware lots of time without any announcements/

you nettest shows something is filtering (delaying ) the packets. I would contact your ISP showing the the results of the nettest and tracert. Also I would not stop at the first level of support but go to the supervisor level as most front line support are told to deny traffic shaping.

Been having this problem all day. After install I get the 'Cryptic Launcher Autoupdate - Trying to update the launcher. Please be patient.'... etc...

I've followed all the suggestions and had no joy. My brother, who is on the same wireless network, has installed, updated and can get into the game. Funnily, I can't get Steam to work either. Or nettest from CO.

    I get:
    contacting nettest server..timed out
    hit return to exit

    My CPU-Z report is here:
    http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1030980

I've no idea how to check my ports but I presume that is where the problem lies.

    Any more suggestions greatly appreciated...

Try to ask someone in IRC chat, that is how I get mine because I have issues too with just the stupid auto launcher update (patching the game works fine).
