If you didn't get the lifetime

Will you be gone too March 2nd? Much as I'd like to stay and see if the game becomes decent, I just can't bring myself to shell out another $15 to find out. Maybe if they dropped it to $5, but they won't. So, just curious, are the other players leaving going back to WoW, SWG, EQ, and the like? I know a lot of us left those games because they were stale only to see the shocking disappointment and upset that is STO. Just curious, does STO make your old MMO look better to you now?

I got the lifetime AND I'm already gone/uninstalled. I'm just waiting around the forums to see what becomes of the 45 day patch. I still would like to see some good come out of this disaster. I considered the 240$ a lesson learned, was lucky enough to hear I could call for a refund. Free lesson learned. The lesson being: Don't follow a game pre-release, you set yourself up to be let down; research product/read reviews etc... don't gamble with all these garbage MMOs companies are putting out these days. Don't throw money at a company thinking it will immediately go to fixing the game.

The idea of going back to SWG, a game that has had more issues in the years it has been around than STO has had in its first month seems pretty funny to me.

Honeslty, I would give STO another month or two, every MMO has a hard release, every game you listed was nearly unplayable due to lag/bugs in their first 30 days.

No game makes a SoE run MMO look good to me. I can't stand to look at WoW style graphics any more, and the players are people I do not want to be around for the most part. So no. :)

After my closing statements to Sony I can't go back to an SoE run game either. I meant what I said to them though, bunch of slop artists. I don't get how these people with no talent keep getting hold of the franchise rights to my favorite scifi series. Star Wars, Star Trek, what's next? Firefly the mmo? Who will they give that to? Blizzard?

Having a hard time not going back to SWG and that's certainly saying something. Another lifetime sub that hasn't even logged in in the past, almost, week. I waited for this game thru Perpetual, P2, and now Cryptic. What a disapointment.

Cryptic could save this thing, but im my estimation, it will take a boat-load more than a 45 day patch. Maybe a year or 2. The 64 dollar question is; Will there be enough subs to make that feasable or cost effective for Cryptic?

I was checking 3rd party STO forums, things aren't looking good at the moment.

I hope they can come up with something to get people to log back in.

I like it, I didn't get the lifetime but I'll probably give it another month or two. I got it on Feb 2nd and right now I'm still only a Lt. Commander 8.

ive never understood how people can plan on quitting an mmo but stick around and play until their subscription runs out, since mmos are about work and payoff instead of immediate fun if you've decided to quit there is no reason to play.

To be honest, $15 a month is nothing. I'll pay it until I feel I am not getting any enjoyment out of the game.

Under normal MMO play i would agree however as it stands STO can be played fed side o top lvl in a week so may as well carry on until your free time has gone to get something for your money.

To answer the OP question i didn get a life time as i know cryptic to well , i shall no doubt un-sub when my month is out until more content is in, as im finding playing a klingon so dull constant pvp and forced to do it to lvl up is not my idea of fun.

As for fed side i reached top rank ages ago and aside from passing things over to my klingon and doing that oh so great daily mission he has nothing to come out for.

Dam shame as well as i enjoyed playing the game.

People paid money and are here to see what happens. Discuss their issues and get help with them. We are allowed to have problems with a few things but still be fans.

If you don't understand that, and you can't even bring yourself to log into the game, then we can't help you.

I could care less about a couple fanatical keyboard commandos.

    1-408-404-1714 ext 1231

Be prepared to wait... I heard it would be around 20 minutes, I waited 56 minutes total. (Calling 10 minutes after they opened)

After listening to the entire Champions Online soundtrack while on hold, they picked up...

'Hi blah blah, corporate script, blah... may I help you?'

'I'd like to get a refund for my lifetime subscription'

    'OK.'
(No fuss at all... I already had an argument ready expecting some attempts at retention)

I waited while they removed my lifetime sub stuff from my account, I guess the person could not do it directly.

Alright, you'll have the refund in 5-7 days.

I got it today, 2 days after calling.

Sadly canceling was the most pleasent part of my STO experience, minus the 56 minute wait... but I expected that and made the most out of it floating in my pool with a sweet tea. :) The guy was cool about it, and the money rushed back.

Just do it before you use the subscription (during your 30 days).

BTW: Fanbois, I already gave my stuff away.

Your right in away but an mmo is ment to be a long haul , playing a game 10-15 hours aweek well you may as well get a fps and finsih that an mmo should keep you hooked with differnt AT to try lots to explore and do to warrent the money you pay each month.

As it stands sto for me so far has felt like a fps

the hype about how awesome this game was going to be.

I will be playing at least another month. My biggest issue is respecs, and while they have said they are coming, the timing and manner that they happen will determine a lot for me.

However, that said, I never had high expectations for STO. First, it's a strong 3rd party IP...and those never translate into MMOs well (and never will, for lots of good reasons). Second, and most importantly, it's Cryptic. I knew what to expect from them coming in, and the day I bought the game I knew I would be playing it for less than 6 months. It's just the type of games they make, they are not long term 'keepers'. Knowing these two things from day one allowed me to enjoy the game, as I had no unreasonable expectations coming in.

The game is what it is, a Star Trek MMO made by Cryptic. I never expected a lot given that, and I wasn't disappointed in what I did get.

Okay this is getting really irritating to me now. First off the game was JUST released! How can you expect a game like this to be perfect, and yes I know STO has a lot of things that need to be fixed. Any of you who have played Spore can understand this issue.

I'm pretty sure games like WoW started out similarily. Anyways I personally feel that STO is a far superior game then that of SWG. STO has pretty amazing graphics and pretty good writing, which gives the game great potentiol for the future. The game may have it's rough patches but that does'nt mean you should completely give up on it.

I'll be here for a while. I happen to be one of the folks that really like this game and see a lot of potential. It's ok to argue that we are not paying for "potential", but I think I can manage to still have a good time.

Sadly, I just cancelled my subscription. After a week of not logging in, finding no motivation to do so, I gave up. I'll be working on Mass Effect 2 as a substitue. Then Just Cause 2 comes out next month and I'm likely going to get that. Then I'm really anxious to get Red Dead Redemption in April. No MMOs. There's just nothing out there in the genre that looks interesting. I had high hopes for STO but Crytic failed to meet them.

Im not giving up on it i like it to much but what i will do like many others is stop paying each month until more content is added.

This happens alot wih mmo players if they get feed up they go for abit unil new stuff is in, i have a few accounts from other mmo that are inactive its a case of waiing it out, and for sto i do hope it does get better would be a shame to the name if it didnt

Agree with you on this sir. I would have been ashamed to release this game with the name Star Trek on it.

As for membership, sadly my girlfriend and I both wasted our money on lifetimes. We've both already reactivated our LoTRO accounts.

We'll come back next year and take a look, although after waiting years, and years for this game, we are so terribly disappointed, we're pretty much convinced it's just not our cup of tea.

As it is? I like it, HOWEVER, I could deal with MANY fewer harder fights, there are not this many ships in the star trek universe, and repair rates of ships are too high (wouldn't have to be that high with fewer, more difficult engagements)

my crew respawning at an alarming rate bothers me too, crew should be a third independent variable (you have your repair rate governed by what kind of shape your EPS conduits are in, and your crew determines the repair rate of the EPS conduits, as well as being a way to maintain fire rates, stuff like that, fully crewed ship gets 115% firing rates, v. a skeleton crew, or something like that, a ship with almost no crew left has to go back to spacedock <this would act as a Death Penalty, when you die, you have to go to the nearest starbase, do not pass go, do not collect $200)

Weapons need to have more bite also, it doesn't take fifty shots for the enterprise to drop a vor'cha's shields (even with Lieutenant Commander Data in command)

I would like a budget of autofires based on my rank, that I can put anywhere (I want two turrets to autofire, and they're both aft weapons, let me have that if I'm a lieutenant, give me three if I'm a LTcmdr)

AND I would like respecs, and more content.

All of that said, I'm going to get a lifetime subscription next paycheck. I think these are all issues that can be conquered, I LOVE the autoPuG system, I LOVE the way instancing is handled (Long time guild wars player)

This can work, Cryptic needs the will to make it work though.

You cannot compare the graphics of STO to that of WoW. Two different styles and WoW came out in 2004. Secondly, WoW had lots to do while leveling in terms of farming instances for loot as you level. There many varied instances as well when the game went live so there was plenty to do till you hit cap. Then you either had to get 39 other people to do MC or farm BRM or Open World PvP or level an alt. All this was available Day 1. Granted MC was buggy but it was there to do.

Compare to STO on Day 1, you have Quest leveling, battlegrounds and farming Fleet Actions (instances). That's it. But, like CO, it's all linear, no variation. In WoW you could level many different ways in differing zones. There was lots to do. There was even crafting. Rare world bosses. WoW took EQ to the next level (being that some of the people came from guilds in EQ) but made a game more casual friendly. MMOs today should be following a model like WoW in terms of what is being offered when a game goes live.

As already mentioned, WoW didn't have a smooth launch, but that only affected 4 servers of which Archimonde is where I played. All the other servers were fine but laggy. And I played a warrior. So I played with no rage every day especially losing my rage when a mob blocked, parried, dodged my attacks :(

I'll be around for awhile. I really like their starships and starship combat. The ground missions don't do much for me though and I try to avoid them. I'll probably play as long as I can fiddle with starships.

I've never known a new MMO which didn't have a host of problems which can be aggravating, but you have to expect that with a new MMO regardless of who makes it (my top aggravation -- getting mobbed the instant I zone into an encounter -- they need to keep mobs away from the zone-in point OR have the zone in point move to some place outside of all aggro ranges whenever the mobs move. Something is needed ASAP).

STO doesn't seem all that bad in that regard compared to other games I've played. If you can't tolerate problems you shouldn't play any game less then a year old if that. Even then you'll probably be disappointed.

It's funny how people abandon ship so quickly... no pun intended... I did get a lifetime subscription and had played in beta, I'm averaging about 10 hours of gameplay a week. Yes the game needs tons of improvement, and yes the downtime has sucked and the lack of communication from cryptic has made things worse but in the end if you have a lifetime subscription why would you cancel? It hasn't even been a month yet and no matter what anyone says we're still in beta(or beta beta).

If you have a monthly subscription and aren't enjoying yourself i'd say unsubscribe and check back in in a couple months. If you have a lifetime subscription, wait it out. Things haven't gotten worse gameplay wise and in fact the devs have been making improvements based on ranting on the boards.

In the end, people complaining need to stop being the "now generation" and start being realistic about their expectations. It's going to take months, if not years to build a feature/story rich game like WoW. It took WoW and games similar to it YEARS to get where they are right now... We're not even a month from launch.

That being said, Cryptic needs to organize damage control and put someone on payroll who is dedicated to addressing players concerns and COMMUNICATING. Having devs on the board is all fine and dandy but i'd rather have them working on the game.

I haven't got a lifetime but I do have 3 months already. I will staying for at least 6 months and IMO that's enough time for Cryptic to sort the game out. I have already ended my LOTRO sub for now.
