Half my friends were clamoring at me to get a 10-day trial key. After this disingenuous offer of 10 now they look at the 5-day key and turn up their nose at it. You've made yourselves out to be liars Cryptic, and I know at least 10 people personally that will never play your game after the move you pulled there. I was already not planning to renew next month, but seriously guys get it together or shut it down.

    What is your complaint, exactly?

its because you can finish everything in the game in 10 days easily, 5 days=more profit.

It's not a complaint, I'm just letting them know they screwed themselves out of at least 10 potential customers with their incompetence.

I don't understand the situation either. Is it that you were given a trial key that was supposed to be for 10 days and only got 5 days?

Your friends sound like awesome people turning their nose up at a free trial just because they were promised 5 more days than they're getting. Promised by you that is. And by awesome, I mean lame.

Did everyone miss the fact that 10-day trial key was emblazoned on the site, but when you clicked to claim it, it suddenly switched to 5 days. Their idea of fixing that was to switch the ad on the site to say 5 day, even though they got a whole bunch of people worked up about 10.

I noticed it but not knowing anyone wanting a key I didn't really think that hard about it... IMO it *should* be a 10 day key.

I'm still not seeing anything to get worked up about.

It was probably supposed to be 5 days in the first place so not to "cheapen" the passes that came in the collector's edition which I believe are 10 day.

What happened was some people were seeing ads on the site for a 10-day key that was supposed to say 5. When people clicked the link, it went to a thing for a 5-day key. Apparently, OP feels it's false advertising and/or incompetence.

What we believe the length of the key should or shouldn't be is irrelavent. I wouldn't thiink that should really play a part in wether or not they want to give the game a try or not. If they do, it shouldn't matter how long the key is for. If they don't then they won't anyways.

Bait and switch, even on a modest level, can breed a lot of distrust. I completely understand the frustration.

I'm kind of leaning toward the notion that it's more incompetence than outright falsehood, but I really think they should honor their claim of a 10-day key.

I don't see it as bait and switch, as I've never seen the ad for a 10-day key. It's always been a 5-day key on my computer. I know of others that only saw the 5-day key, so it was most likely a coding error of some sort. Big difference between honest mistake and bait-and-switch.

I didn't know anything about the passes until I got an email this morning, and the email said 5 days. It sounds like they just made a mistake and quickly corrected it.

It happens. "Bait and switch" is a bit harsh in this circumstance. It's free game time regardless, and it costs you nothing but the time it takes to claim it. No harm done.

Why? So that those of us who PAID for 10-day keys to give away get ripped off?

If you want a ten-day key, PM someone with a CE. Otherwise, stop acting like you're owed something here.

I've never seen it as 10 day either. The only 10 day trial keys I knew they were offering were from the Collector's Edition. The buddy keys that you can claim for your friends said 5 day when I went to the page.

The site said 10 to me and several people I know that clicked onto it that day. When they make an offer one would expect them to honor it. Besides, we all know the price tag of CE was so collectors could get that oh-so-cool combadge that does nothing.

I seem to remember seeing on the launcher the offer of 10 days and now it is a 5 day trial. Somebody must be beaten with a wet noodle over this one. At the very least they should give him/her a swat across the head with a rubber chicken.

Now hold on a sec on this one. The so called "10 day pass" issue was put out after people already had their subscriptions. In this case, aside from the pre-order bonus people, it wasn't a hey subscribe now and send your friends a 10 day pass. We were already here and had our subs. This was a bonus.

Are we now calling getting a bonus of giving something free to out friends an actual bait and switch or misreprentation? How can giving you something for free, to send along to a friend and allow them to play for free be a bait and switch.

Now for those who did the pre-order bonus with the knowledge that they would receive the 10 friend key, that's another story. If they had pre-ordered and then the key was a 5 day key instead of 10, then there would be a complaint. But, doesn't sound like that's what happened here.

    Sec. 238.0 Bait advertising defined.1

Bait advertising is an alluring but insincere offer to sell a product or service which the advertiser in truth does not intend or want to sell. Its purpose is to switch consumers from buying the advertised merchandise, in order to sell something else, usually at a higher price or on a basis more advantageous to the advertiser. The primary aim of a bait advertisement is to obtain leads as to persons interested in buying merchandise of the type so advertised.

um they are not selling anything first off

Then write them a letter... they won't find out from you whining on the forum. The only thing you're going to do is make everybody around here start flaming'.

They don't have to honor it because, as you pointed out, when you clicked the link, it said it's a 5-day trial, and the link has been fixed to read a 5-day trial. You didn't agree to anything beforehand. You didn't sign up for it, thinking it was a 10-day trial and get sent a key, being told after-the-fact that it was a 5-day trial. Had this been the case, you'd have a case. However, this isn't the case, so you don't.

I saw the add for a 10 day key, it was up for an hour tops. the web master made a mistake, these things happen, there was proably a communications mix up somewhere. fact of the matter what kinda person turns their nose up at a free trial just because it's 5 days instead of 10?

    that's down right silly

the obvious error is offering a 10 day trial and then changing it to 5 days, its that what puts people off, its not about the ammount of free time its people coming to the opinion of "they have no idea what their doing"
