i'd like a clear answer on this: Is it okay to glitch all weapons into auto-fire by rapidly right-clicking the weapon icons or will it result in a (temp/perm) ban?
As much as I'd hate not to be able to use auto-firing - it's better than losing my lifetime subscription.
Is that really a question? Gee... lemme think... taking advantage of what is in essence a bug to benefit your character. Exploiting it if you will. Hmm I wonder if that would be bad?
Please dont give that bs about "well if THEY dont say its bad..."
If THEY dont say its bad publicly, and you still do what you KNOW is wrong (otherwise you wouldnt be worried about getting banned), dont cry when you still catch a ban.
I was personally keeping quiet on this one.
So far though I'm playing a game with myself to see how many fore hardpoints I can trigger for auto-fire, haven't been able to get past two yet, but I'll get there.
Basically it stops me wearing out my spacebar for my energy weapons like arrays, because I have more than enough energy for all of them.
In fact I find it's more of a challenge to make sure I have my dual-cannons lined up to fire most of the time, and by having such things all set to auto, it means I can focus more on my piloting skills.
However, consider this: If Cryptic plans on implementing FULL-autofire for everyone, they might consider using the glitch now a minor problem as it's like the "premature usage of a comming feature".

So please: give us a definitive answer.
Cheers!
They allow us to use 3rd party software and G15s to do this already.
@NinetyNine: The icons change just the way they should if triggered normally; so you will get a feedback.
@Zilag: Thanks for the info. I read in in another thread and found it nice to know. I'd just like an ingame solution without any external software or a new hardware purchase.

The fact that so many people are using this so called "exploit" should promt cryptic to maybee look into the /b/tarded fact that we can only set one weapon to autofire per facing.
Fix the CAUSE of the problem/exploit, not the exploit.
It's a glitch. It's obviously not intended to work that way. You have to "trick" the system into it, usually by setting up deliberate lag. Any time you have to go to such length to accomplish something, you KNOW you're outside the "intended" usage. Use it at your own risk.
Also, I've seen somewhere where it says you can have ONE forward autofire and ONE rear autofire.
IF it was up to me, once I figured out how to prevent it, I'd have the system simply shut off ALL autofire on any ship that had more than one forward or rear autofire active. Players could then just turn on the one each they chose, and go from there.
And I agree with those who would like to see more than one each way, but this appears to be how they want it.
That's the point: Auto-firing lets you focus on manoeuvering and timing your torpedoes/special abilities. Hell, you even get to enjoy the beautiful scenery (in space).
imo cryptic should enable auto fire. otherwise those who use autokey and g15 plus the 100000's of other equipment/programs have a massive advantage, the argument about it spoiling combat or making the game easy is null/void when u consider the whole combat system is based on button mashing. and i don't think its possible for them to stop users from using software/hardware solutions
Devs aren't going to answer this out of the dozens of identical threads.
Use your own judgment, and accept responsibility for your own actions. I doubt they'll actually drop the hammer on people for using, at least, not without warning, but I could be wrong.
I used it for a while when I had nothing but beams on my Light Cruiser. But I just got my Tier 2 ship, and I'm using a mix of beams and torps. I've gone back to the "legal" one each because I want more control over when my Torps fire.
Until I see a definitive post from a developer stating it is considered an exploit and is therefore a bannable offense, I will continue to use this "glitch" (which I consider a workaround, not a glitch). If said post comes out, I will discontinue immediately and instead move on over to my G15 macroing abilities.
They already accept the use of 3rd party hardware (G13/G15, for example), so I don't see why they'd disallow the same effect using entirely ingame means.

ofc thats all fine, but what about in tier 3 escorts, where you have 2 cannons, beams, torp, and on back you got 2 turrets. my space bar gets about 1 week-2weeks worth of tapping in abut a hour of space combat
tho torps/mines should not be allowed to autofire imo
I also don't see a reason why it should be okay to use a 3rd party app and not an ingame option. guess it's better to go back to not using this "workaround".
But yeah: If using this is a consired not legit, please give us at least a warning before shutting as down for good.
I've had a G15 for a looooong time, but to be honest for me it's just... a cool keyboard with lights.
How would i go about setting up a macro for fire all phasers?
You only need the most basic of macros. Create one that presses the spacebar every 0.5-1.0 seconds, then set it to "toggle" on and off, and you're set. If you need specific instructions, just PM me.
It really becomes "work" as soon as you advance to the higher tiers and get a good number of weapons to manage.
Koffeuk: Setting your torps to auto-fire is counter-intuitive anyway. Even if this was allowed, people likely won't get a benefit out of it. But your suggestion is entirely acceptable to me - give us auto-fire, even if you keep the heavy weapons out.
Maybe Cryptic has never made an official reply on this topic, because their XO has not yet made up his mind on it?!
Maybe my connection is just too fast.......but I can't get the "right clicking fast" trick to work.
I've zoned into heavy hit areas like Sol with the space dock, trying to take advantage of any lag I can find but nope, doesn't work.
I turn them all off. then right click two weapons a(fore or aft but not one of each)s fast as I can...this is the way right?
And just to make one thing clear (you probably guessed it by now): I love this game to death, I think Cryptic as done good work on the licences, though improvements are possible. I'm really looking forward to seeing this game grow and evolve. If I'm not banned, that is...
@LKynes: a offical word would be nice, but i doubt it. either we'll see it enabled in a patch/quickfix one day or we won't. when it comes to statements/insights or even "we are aware" tthese forums seem lacking. and why we have so many threads/flames/trolling

Yes, make sure that auto fire is not enabled on any front weapons. then quickly right click on two front weapons. If done fast enough, then they both will be highlighted in green.
With regards to the OP's questions, I really hope that Cryptic deal with this in a mature and understanding manner rather than just prevent people from using this bug without actually addressing the reason WHY they use it in the first place.
Every design decisions has to be weighed against what the devs what vs what the customer wants / needs. And if a lot of people are using this "bug", macros or third party apps to work-around what they deem is an inappropriate UI requirement, then the devs need to re-evaluate their stance on the subject.
Case in point: LA + SOE redesigned SWG because THEY wanted it to be that way, they didn't evaluate such changes against what the customer wanted. So by not checking with them, they failed to meet the customers needs and look what happened. SOE / LA leared the hard way that failure to listen and act in accordance with the customers needs, will ultimately cost you far more than having to compromise on your design decisions and implement changes to appease the customer.

probably half the server uses it by now
if they *fix* it by removing it and not making it avaible like people want it to be then the flamewar is on!

I'd just like something official on the topic. This has been discussed so many time, but no dev ever responded.

I just hope Cryptic has decided to implement auto-fire in coming patch and such will tolerate using the bug for the time being.
Please people, answer us! Rehpic, are you there?
