It's amazingly hard to play without a HUD to have made this video...

The fact that I can't turn them off without losing the UI. That footage looks great.

they're working on a tool like the CoH engine had, that basically records your movements into a file which can then be replayed in the engine.

then it'd be easy to kill the hud and record... they're making it so people can do exactly this.

suspect its somewhat a lower priority however..

I'm going to take this up as my current cause, as I honestly hate the shield indicators. Hate them.

Yeah, I've heard about this mod, but I have been kind of afraid of seeking it out. People have been banned for even discussing it. I'd hate to think what would happen if they found me using it.

It's a general rule you shouldn't discuss how to do it...

That video looks awesome. It's how I imagine the ships to look, not with this weird blue thing following me about all the time :(

    I wish they'd do something.

Then again, with no content currently I'd settle for something new to try.

Wait, when you turn off the HUD the shield indicators go away? I never noticed that before, or is this something new... If that's all it is, awesome. I can play like that since I have a gamepad for all my keybinds. Or is there some trick to this?

I'll have to try it. :D

Yeah, I believe this is a new function they've enabled with the HUD off.

As I recall, I tried this before without the HUD, but the shield rings were STILL there. I remember kind of feeling disappointed because it was nearly perfect for video without the HUD, yet the rings were still there.

I believe one of these recent patches, due to customer requests, they've changed it so that the shield rings are now removed with the HUD.

    Excellent to see though.

I just tried this with ALT-F12 but I still get the shield indicators. How'd you do it Durakken?

I like, much better, I never even look at the indicators.

I also think the giant grid in sector space should go too, it would seem more vast without it.

someone has got a semi working mod for that too

as far as how "i" did it...
I didn't make the mod and i can't tell you how to find or install it to do it because any thing i link to will get me smacked...

also Zatzai... your transwarp thing is off... they travel at varying speeds, above warp 9 and below warp 10, but are still called Warp 1-10....and ships go at dif max speeds too.

Ohhhh I see. It still functions the way I remember it. ALT+F12 doesn't remove the shield rings after all.

    WAIT A SECOND

They <Cryptic> said that they could NOT remove the shield rings as they were LINKED DIRECTLY to the HUD, Yet they allowed you to remove the HUD and KEEP the RINGS O.o

Anyone else think this is a little fishy. should be easy enough just to reverse the accident they made so you can have it the other way around.

Yes I've noticed the ships claim to go at different max warp speeds in sector space as you go up in class, the Mirandas went at Warp 7.6 maxed out, but my Intrepid Class claims to go at Warp 8.97. I've seen that the Intrepid can travel one Light Year in 9 seconds as opposed to the 11 seconds of the Miranda. Not much of an increase in actual speed, certainly not compared to the actual difference between warp 7.6 and Warp 8.97 which is rather large...

As far as what it's called, I explained that in the thread. Transwarp in Trek lore can mean two things, it can mean Warp 10 (Travelling at Transwarp) and it can refer to Transwarp Conduits that the Borg use in TNG/Voyage and now the Federation and other races use in STO to travel around at speeds greater than what is normally possible, but still below Warp 10 (Infinite speed). There are actually missions in STO about the Federation Transwarp network that ships use to travel around at such phenomenal paces.

It's not like it is hard t find if you assume I want to share how to do it... ^.^ I mean we have google and assuming I wanted to share it'd be pretty easy to look up Durakken and STO related topics on google ^.^ It's an easy way to find my map and char creator so...

So much for Cryptic's excuse of the indicators being "integral" to the game and completely impossible to remove or hide.

I liked the vid. And the space action looks really pretty that way. Would be great if we could at least turn off the shield indicators around the ship.

And OP, you may want to change the song. Its got a little cursing in it, and I think I heard a drug reference or two. Its probably nothing to worry about, but I think people have gotten infractions for posting links with something the mods dont approve off.

This might qualify. It might not. I just dont want to see anyone get infractions or anything like that. :(
