vista firewall problems

hi. just wanted to inform the community out there that uses windows vista that windows firewall interferes horribly with the game (2.17.10) i have yet to find a fix. ive tested my connections to the ports and they are all great but somehow when the firewall is on i have massive rubberbanding in 7 minute intervals almost exactly.

the only time i don't have rubberbanding you say? is when ive turned my firewall off. Im getting a new program ill edit once i find one that works.

i have added all the ports to port forwarding on my settings and i have added all the programs in the STO folder to the list of let-throughs. nothing has worked as well as turning the thing off.

if anyone else has had this issue and knows of a better firewall program to use then windows that isnt 90 bucks please reply to this post.

thanks

I am running Vista 32 and 64 bit on two systems and the default Firewall does not cause that problem on either.

Do you have any third party security programs, such as anti-virus or anti-spyware?

Are you using wireless networking on this system?

Do you have anything in the task scheduler that runs at this interval?

if your getting regular network issues the question is are you using wireless networking under vista?
windows vista wireless networking sends data in bursts of data and not continous smooth streams try using a tool called vista antilag or try connecting your PC to your modem or router with a cable

the only firewall program ive used for vista and windows 7 is by comodo it comes with firewall and antivirus. can be complicated to use if you select paranoid mode but on normal settings its ok

edit: you may want to look under "windows firewall with advanced security" - type into search and itll popup inthe programs list just select and whack enter :p
although i dont think theres any setting in windows firewall that will cause such a problem.. its just not that clever. other than the problem being wireless related it could be a scheduled task thats running or windows defender or your antivirus trying to scan the files as their accessed by STO and is having problems

FYI if you have Ralink chipset in your wireless adapter they released a driver to fix this also (so you don't have to use a third party download). The feature is called Smart Scan.
