I'm doing a short and sweet video series of all sorts of Tutorials for STO. Later, I hope to also include shorts on my favorite missions and episodes. Please feel free to comment or list any questions or future tutorials you'd like to see. They'll get better as we go; I promise!

Indeed and thats what i was trying to do till someone tried to spice it up , he has asked for ideas , i gave him a idea , for as ingame how often do we see questions on BO's? or even Sulu for that matter!
So:
BO's how to
and
How to find Sulu :P
On the assumption here that the problem is a mere lack of tact (the ability to apply consideration to one's phrasing so as to avoid giving offense), I'm going to go ahead and help you out by chiming in that you have a solid suggestion, but aren't getting your point across in a civil manner.
So I'll clean it up for you (or, rather, I'll springboard off it and launch into a similar suggestion, to be more accurate).
While doing video tutorials is a great thing, I think (directed now to the OP) that you should avoid doing ones on things that are simplistic or easy to figure out. Movement is covered rapidly in the tutorial mission, for example, and if you don't make it past that you're pretty well sunk in the game. And to make it that far, you have to go through basic character creation. So, those are two things that we can hope most players will be able to handle (including the basics of ground and ship-to-ship combat).
If you're going to cover those areas, you should perhaps shift from doing a 'tutorial', to perhaps a 'Beginner's Guide' thing that includes helpful tips for players that they may not initially consider, and focus on things like basic strategy and tactics for ground combat.
In the tutorial area, you could probably do Starbase Tours of various places (Earth Stardock, K7, and Memory Alpha come to mind) that explain what each facility is set up to do, shows where important NPCs are and discusses their functions, and tries to be as informative to new players as possible. For example, a general tour of the basics of Earth Stardock (where to spend Exploration medals, where hard to find NPCs are, what each section in the hub is for and a brief intro to those sections) would probably help out a lot of people.
Or something to that effect. I'm exhausted and not thinking as clearly as I normally do.
You should see if you can get this post stickied and add new links to the first post.
Another fine reason for base tours. >>
-This tutorial series is meant to do two things- be short (most tutorial videos you see out there average around 10 minutes! Ouch!), and have voice instructions or steps (same deal here...usually you are just watching a mouse move around to background music)
-Next, I plan to keep making videos for the content that people havn't seen, but I have to start with the basics. These first five or so videos are for noobs. Like somoene said, they are intended for people who haven't played the game yet and want to learn about the logistics of STO before they commit time and computer memory. So essentially, they are so people on the outside can see how in depth the game is, look at the graphics, look at the controls, the content, etc. This is a big decision maker when it comes to people coming over from other games.
-I DO plan to cover more intermediate and advanced topics. As I said, I'd like to cover episodes that are really popular, I was ploanning on doing a vid on the CE and other large encounters, I was planning on doing a tour series of starbases and other maps, BO's, Ship tactics, Weapon varieties, Alien species, tricks of the trade, etc. etc. etc. This isn't going to be your usual "make 5 noob videos and thats it"
-Lastly, I'm hard to upset haha. And people are entitled to their own opinion. So you guys, don't bicker! Please. I might really be a troll or be lame in real life! Ya never know. The point is, I'm here to serve and everyone's opinion is important to me. I'd love to hear everyone's suggestions and I am planning to make this tutorial video series a really nice database for scores of players to use as reference. So I do need harsh opinions every once in a while to tell me what is missing or what needs to be added. Or if my voice sucks as a commentator. :P
I just started the game last week, so give me some time! haha.MyI highest level character is only a Captain, but we are getting there. I promise Penny's Guide to the Galaxy with be worthwhile one day.
Onward My Friends!
-Cast
A friend wrote "Roleplayer" in that box and that is what appears in his status window on my friends list and I am assuming on the team search boxes.
I enjoyed your first tutorial video and will watch the second when I get home from work. I like your concept of keeping them short and the voice over you did.
So that box is like a Facebook status for your friends list in game? Interesting. Social networking in an MMO...awesome! Haha
I'm going to try to do a new video every week or two weeks. Subscribe on You Tube until I have enough videos and notoriety on here for the Moderators to actually sticky the thread.
The basic ground movements (Q strage left, E strafe right, A turn left, etc) change when you have a target selected. Can you explain the difference in movement controls with no target selected, vs when a target is selected?
For example when I have a target select, D becomes strafe right, sometimes it's something else.
Thanks
However a guide to the game world really only requires knowing one thing at the moment...
knowing where the 'F' key is.
I did a ground combat basics video...just to go over the generic controls. I plan to do a Part II and III video to go into advanced tactics and cover different strategies and officer abilities to take down foes quick and easy. This will also cover weapons, kits, etc. So...got alot of data collecting and testing to do. But I'm working on it. The same thing will be done for Space Combat as well.
In fact...I'm going to do a video just for fun depicting every single bridge officer ability and player power showing what it does and looks like in a 3 minute time span. Just a quick teaser vid. It will be hell switching out powers and going back and forth...but maybe I'll get a sticky one day.
