I read some of the recent artcles about how the devs want to add different ship interiors to the game. That's cool, I do have a couple of suggestions:
In the various ST series there are always several common ship locations:
Bridge (check)
Engineering
Sickbay/Science Lab
Transporter Room
Captain's Quarters
Rec Room/Ten Forward/Mess Hall
Conference Room
Captain's Ready Room
Armory
Cargo Bay
Now the question is what would the point of having these locations other than a Social/RP perspective?
Here's some ideas:
Engineering - Engineering Consoles/Engines/Shield/Deflectors/Power cells and personal shields
Sickbay - Hypo Sprays/Science Consoles
Armory - Ship and Personal Weapons/Tactical Consoles
Mess hall/Ten-Foreward - Food replicators/semi-private Social Gathering environment
Cargo Bay - Bank Access (Fleet Bank only accessible though Space Docks)
Captain's Ready Room or Quarters - Achievement Gallery or place to decorate with vanity C-Store items -_-
(The cynic in me figures this idea will get implemented first considering Cryptic's love for the C-Store)
Conference Room - Social gathering environment for Fleets
I have a feeling if there can be a purpose to each ship interior it will go a long way to justify it's creation. However most of the functionality will require an overhall and expansion of the crafting system.
Treat the ship like you would a City of Heroes Villain Group/Super Group Base it doesn't have to be as customizable since it has to look like the interior of a starship.
Here's the thing: Memory Alpha is a cool place to visit buy I don't want to be going back there every time I have some loot I want to upgrade.
If you wanted to throw Missioning into the mix, create a "crime computer" like system where a player gets a ship-based mission instead of a normal mission. The missions could range from "Cardassian Vole infestation" to "Figure out who's the shapeshifting/possessing alien."
