In exploration missions what is the benefit for giving a planet commodities?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
One planet wanted 10 self sealing stem bolts. I have to buy 40 energy cells from a commodites broker, then trade them for the 10 bolts at a freighter or DS9. I figure that would cost about 16000 energy credits. I didn't do it. But if I had what would I get from the planet leader? A key to the planet? An orion love slave? Please someone clue me in. Don't tell me all I'd get is 1 of 3 unexplored missions completed.

You'll get a 'thank you' and that's about it - do what I do when you enter an 'Aid the Planet' system - warp the hell outta there before they spot you...

Unfortunately, I do the same. If I get one of those missions I just warp straight back out, hoping I will get a ground mission or space combat next time.

Maybe, if you could aid the planet in some other way, like sorting out a dispute or making first contact , they would be more fun.

Don't forget, you also get the benefit of not having to go and do another of the five canned mission types for the 300th time.

But seriously, it completes 1/3 of your exploration requirements and I believe it gives you the standard SP, BO pts, etc that you usually get upon completing an exploration mission. If you happen to carry around the kind of commodoties that are used in the area, its a quick way to complete one of your three missions without much effort.

This is a fix the developers need to implement. There has got to be a return gift from the planet that makes the mission economically feasible. And, I don't mean a tribble.

These missions would be far better if they offered a number of ways of getting them as part of the mission. For instance, an option to haggle an orbiting Ferengi, or attack the same Ferengi and take it, or beam down to discover they're lying and don't need them, etc.

But tribbles are the gift that keeps on giving!

i allways put any comodities i find in the replicator and warp out of those missions.

if that stuff would be worthless i'd keep it but you get good Energy Credits for it... more then what you get from those Relief Efforts.

....i guess there should be something done to make those missions worth the trouble, or just get rid of them.

This sums up my approach to these missions.

I wouldn't have a problem with giving away supplies, but the very constricted inventory space coupled with the stack limits makes it really hard to support these planets at all.

i have never ever "happened" to carry around more than 3 pieces of any given commodity. Do you guys buy them just for fun or what? I have them drop sometimes, and I sell them to the vendor on the next Starbase...

Actually, you can give 'em the stuff direct from your bank which helps - I still avoid these mission though - maybe I'll get round to buying a bunch of commodities so I don't have to but then again, it take two seconds to warp out and find another mission...

I've done everyone I've ever come across, and I keep 20 of each in my inventory at all times. You get Skillpoints, BO skill points and merits now. No where near what you should. These are also supposed to be the missions where you can get Bridge officers from these alien planets, but they don't work atm.

When I encounter this mission, I will just warp out and come back to it if I am able to loot the items that were requested.

i go buy what they need. and when i have around6 of these missions i go and do them, and it counts as your exploration missions. Its called quick XP when you need it. If i find such a planet i get the quest, go off and do others. then i may get more of the aid quests and i let them stack as i say. Its a good system for quick XP after you do a few slogathons.

How about 10 random comodity items not including the type they asked for, plus five random anomaly data units... And a diplomacy point...

Diplomacy points could allow an encounter with hostiles to be resolved without bloodshed. Activate it with an enemy ship or character targeted, and their group will either warp out of the system or beam away. You won't get any loot or XP for your victory, but it would allow diplomacy to have a purpose...

Yeah, I see they want something. I warp out. Most of the time I re-spawn right back on a good anomaly and zone back in. :)

I did a few of these missions when I still had the stuff they wanted from drops. What I didn't understand... I did 2 in the same cluster, and got 1/3 systems, with 10 whatevers delivered. When I later returned to the cluster, I was asked if I wanna continue the mission. I couldn't remember what it was, clicked yes, and delivered another 10 other whatevers to the same planet, again counting 1/3 systems. It said "delivered 10/10 of bla, delivered 0/10 of bla" when I arrived. What's that all about? I basically explored the same system again.

    lol :)

You get 1 of 3 unexplored missions completed. Don't bother, they're not worth it.

    I do the same.

Hit the warp button and forget about it.
Mind you, I am a Ferengi captain.

    Rule 109 folks.
Dignity and an empty sack is worth a sack.

Unless they were thinking of 285 when they wrote this mission.

No good deed ever goes unpunished.

I like the idea. I didn't see any diplomacy skills.

In closed beta you could replicate them, which meant they were fine, just spend a few energy credits and get another 1/3 done. Stopping you replicating means everyone just avoids them.

Actually, in the early levels, I used to carry them around specifically for these missions. Each exploration cluster only requests a specific type of commodity, for each tier. Though, in all honesty, I've yet to see these types of missions outside of the first 2-3 tiers/ranks... they just stopped popping up.. not sure if its just bad luck, or by design. Carrying them around when trying to farm up marks for new equipment at each rank made the missions go much faster.

To the poster who said they didn't carry these around because inventory space was lacking.. it only takes up one inventory slot.. you can carry enough in that one slot to do 9 of these missions (max amount being 99 items). What are you carrying that takes up all of your inventory slots?

Maybe the problem is people are going back to space dock to buy these? I just pick them up from traveling trader ships as I move from zone to zone. Energy credits are so easy to come by, its not like its a big deal having to buy these. Not to mention, you might do one of these missions for each piece of gear you get.. that's 1000 energy credits for a nice piece of uncommon equipment.. seems like a reasonable trade off to me. As a matter of fact, with a little pre-planning (bringing commodities with you) I feel like I come out on top, given that I didn't have to repeat the same mission for the 300th time, and I saved time in the process.

Question why not go the privateer route have players use the stuff in trade buy low from 1 place sell high to a place needed and what u get in return r special badges that gives access to cool stuff like unique weapons or stuff that people didn't get coz they did preorder the game or get collectors edition
