Ok,, Ill start out by saying that I am currently between jobs. I have alot of playtime on my hands(6+) hours a day.
I am sitting on LCDR 5 right now and I see alot of peeps running around with ships 1-2 tiers higher. Where am I going wrong? I am doing the same quests as everyone or so I thought. Are there certain quests that yield more xp?
My guess is that you are playing the content... It takes longer, but you get your money's worth and you'll like the game more for it...
Those guys are probably just supplementing the normal quest / mission chains with PvP / Fleet actions and the like , which often provides quick points that accumulate... I wouldn't worry about it...
If you want my opinion (you may not), you are doing the best thing... take your time, enjoy the trip, you'll be a happier and better player for it...
Believe me, I'm at admiral level now, though I went slow too, just very persistent, most of these people at this level don't get any of the references I make to missions or story lines at all...it's as if they've just played Space Invaders to get to admiral... they don't know a thing about the actual game....
...such a waste of money and an experience they could have had... Yet they chose not to, and now they're bored and just want to sit around and gank, and brag about things they don't actually know in chat
You don't wanna be like them...
Follow the stories all of the way through... there are actually a lot of surprises that a lot of people never even experience...
I agree with Some Git, been playing since Head start and i am at LC 9 right now (lvl 19), take your time, there is no rush to Admiral and there is no need to rush to Admiral either, the game is fun in all tiers, so enjoy the journey of all of them
I am enjoying the content alot,, and I do appreciate the scenery. Main reason I ask is I am not sure If I am happy with my character at the moment and was thinking about going from Tactical to the Science road. I would like to get a feel for that t2 ship and see if I would miss my Tac/Cruiser and dont want to waste the 3 or so days it would take me to get to LT11.

Agree. Follow the stories, though a lot of the missions are vertually the same there are many good missions too. I miss more away missions and pure whodunnit' or research missions, but that's beside the point. I bought this game because I'm a trekkie, I don't need to be an admiral tomorrow. I don't even like MMO's, but this game is OK so far.
Some of the guys (possibly gals as well? ) don't even take this seriously, I won't mention some of the Lt. and U.S.S. names popping up as I fly around on the U.S.S. Valentine II (first is in drydock) I just ignore them and pretend to be a seasoned officer. Nuff said
What you are seeing, is people who have simply gone into Sector Defence missions and instance jumped them a lot so that the XP comes fast.
You can do that yourself if you desperately want a better ship, but what you tend to find is that players who do that miss out on not only the story, but also on learning how to wring the very best out of their ship with the resources they have got, and so you'll probably find that if you PVP'd a lot of those five day admirals, you'd wipe the floor with them, even at a lower rank than them, because they've not got a clue how to stretch their abilities when the going gets tough.
What is more, is that players who power level through the game and then find they are bored because they got to the end too quick, then go back and do the missions they missed and don't find them a challenge either, because they are in a ship that was never intended for those missions. Sad, but that's what a lot of people do, and then they come on the forums and ***** about there being no challenge and no content for them.
In short, you are playing far more sensibly than they are. Play your own game and don't be pressured into messing up your experience of the game by those who want everything too soon.

I totally agree with you. Some of these missions are just great.....there have been maybe 2 so far that have been not so great. But the mission on horizon was totally made up for those bad missions. Take your time.....there will be pleanty of time to mess around with different ships later.
Yes, yes....as you keep posting, playing at you speed is the right way, anyone else is rushing blah blah blah.
/yawn.
And your way is better? I can safely assume you have been using an illegal program while playing STO. There is no way anyone can reach Admiral at this point in time. Even if you are rushing through the game, it would take you at least another 3 to 6 weeks to reach Admiral.
Now now, you don't have to level by twinking out DSEs. I did it by grinding star clusters between storyline missions, myself.
Don't worry about trying to level fast, OP. The endgame is still a work in progress, so don't feel pressured to catch up to people like me who play religiously. Take the game as it comes and enjoy the story progression; that way by the time you reach endgame there should hopefully be more stuff waiting for you.

You are either being sarcastic or are just stupid. Either way, everyone needs to put you on ignore. Because you are exactly the type of player that has destroyed the MMO genre.
I may be wrong but I believe they also nerfed some of the SP gains from DSE encounters and maybe other missions as well. Seems to me like they may have nerfed them shortly after headstart and maybe again a couple patches ago. So many of those admirals you see probably had it easier than you as well.

I agree with you. It is ever a wonder that anyone can still play a decent mmo game with trolls lurking around.

wow you HAVE to be a troll. No way you could come up with such a moronic comment and mean it. There's no way.

I don't know you...but this is really stupid comment. I mean really, really dumb. So many ways to destroy you here, which way to go the mind boggles. ..YOu are dead wrong, ok? I just can't be any more clear. ...I mean another 3-6 weeks? Are you really a subscriber? have you played STO? Wow.

Put me on ignore then you worried little person. I am destroying MMOs? Wow, if I knew I had had such powers in the beginning...I could have extorted the developers from Blizzard! Too bad you are so afraid of contrary view that you ignored me, you missed me saying Have a Nice Day.

Pro tip: Troll doesn't refer to someone who has utterly destroyed you and humilated you on a game forum (me). It refers to someone who intentionally posts to create flames and controversy. Lucky for you, all your thoughts have been quite brilliant thus far.

Get the highest Defend mission you can. Find an enemy in the designated sector and enter.
Change instance until you find one active.
Participate or don't. Hell, you can float there dead and get credit.
Turn in, repeat.
If it isn't available again right away, get the next highest, and do it, by the time you finish, the better one will have popped again.
Last step is....wait around a bit till the next patch, and endure the scorn of slow levelers.
You too, can avoid the pain of slogging through the "damn content" to get to the actual game...a daily.
The only suckers are the people who rush through a game instead of enjoying it.

I guess it takes a troll to know one, huh?

The first step is admitting you have the problem. Good for you, we're all behind you.
