I think the worst part of being forced to group with people for scan missions is how we all compete to get to scan objects first. How sad have we become (
I dunno. Personally I find the "Defeat 5 squads" to be far more irritating. Or the "Scan computer" missions featuring the exact same overlit base that looks like it was designed by a primate.
I'll take the "Scan 5 anomolies" missions over them ANY day.
I like how you can tell if its a scan stuff on planet mission by how pretty the area around the planet is or how small and concentrated the astroids are.

Bein a starfleet officer is hard.
Heh.. No argument...I never tried that..but I can't imagine that it would be pretty.....
Everyone gets credit though...right? ...just not the stuff...? which...I really don't need...
Still it's funny to watch how opportunistic people will fight to the death over a mineral sample
Well it's not even like anomalies, I mean like 'A SPACESHIP CRASHED HERE LETS FIND WRECKAGE! *4 players run to wreckage and scan* "NOW FIND 4 MORE PIECES OF WRECKAGE!" *4 players run in opposite directions in full sprint.*
It's just silly. Granted, after some of the longer missions its kinda nice catching a break.
I think these missions both Ground and Space as just fine...they may just need a bit of touch up to add some more intriguing story to it..like maybe in the end of it when you complete all the scans it rewards you with a peace of Alien Artefact data you can use in memory Alpha, along with the Story.
I actually like these... It's like those boring survey missions you always hear Picard talking about in the captain's log on TNG, generally described as uneventful... But at least STO makes them profitable... Anomaly data can be lucrative on the exchange...
I am ok with the scan 5 things type missions as long as the tricorder is not broken with a bad anomaly location that is 1.5 feet below ground. We can be transported miles below the surface of a planet yet 1.5 feet of top soil is doom for most advanced cultures survey teams.
The kill 5 groups of x is what I dislike especially when on explore missions. Being Science some of my skill picks put me at a disadvantage - ship healing makes for longer fights on solo. Last night I was at 4/5 of a kill X ship groups and had to fight the last ship 2 tiers above me and with all their special attacks. All the previous level battles up until now go at the right pace but at this new rank its borders on silly for the time/exp return.
I hope this was a fluke. I did finish the battle but was disappointed at the undue combat length.
I wonder what the mission abandon rate is? Shake the black box that is the mission generator - so abandoning is the best path to finally get a worth while mission out of STO?
We hear that from people when they get the "Our planet is in dire need, we had an earthequake and need 7.1 Dolby entertainment systems or we will all perish!". Players then skip/reset this mission since running all the way out to find someone selling item X is not worth the trouble.
For ground teams:
Oh forgot to add an agreement on the clipping. Its bad. I love the research base map with the BUILT IN CLIPPING FEATURE. You know those big wing or flaps that are at on every door that your Bridge Officers are soon keen to get stuck on. Honestly I think it has improved or I have gotten better at indirect piloting the BO's though a danged door.
Yes the AI is pretty bad. I like the fact that you are with an away team, makes if feel a little less vacant. I also find it odd that my medical officer is insistent to get in the face or close quarters in combat even though they have a huge pulse rifle. My tactical is fine, knows to stay back and open up while stomping anyone that gets too close. My Engineer BO has a bad habit of dropping the shield generator on their location while the rest of us are dying.
I can see it now: "Shield generator deployed! Wow look at all that weapons fire... good thing I am behind this shield or I would be dead like the rest of my team... go Engineering! Not some dumb burly type like those Tac guys always bragging all the time. Yeah lets hear them brag now! " Captains log: Due to an unfortunate accident with the away teams Engineering officer that some how manged to be pummeled to death by their own shield unit I have asked star fleet for a replacement candidate"

However I have to also admit that after a litany of "scan this now scan four other of this" missions...I *actually kinda look forward * to these...
I wouldn't be doing explorer missions if I was after content... I'm usually just after points... Or have nothing else to do at all...

Right, they should make it
Scan 20 things
Like other mmo's.
You brats will complain about ANYTHING.

I scan 5 things in the morning
I scan 5 things at night
I scan 5 things before I go to work
It makes me feel all right.
I scan 5 things in time of peace
and 5 in time of war
I scan 5 things before I scan 5 things
and then I scan 5 more.
