Reasons why I may cancel my sub

Now I know a lot of threads are going around, some are people just repeatedily posting the same sort of thread over and over, while others more genuinely have valid reasons for leaving or wanting Cryptic to do something. I see a lot of the fanbois as I'll put it, defending the game and telling everyone to wait for the 45 day content patch. I just want to get my reasons out there of why I may cancel my subscription and some suggestions for Cryptic.

Now I'll acknowledge that in some recent patches they've added some stuff I've been wanting to see, like filtering of PvP queues, exchange for Klingons etc, but there is still a lot to go. I myself have played loads of MMOs like WAR, CO, AoC, Aion, GA etc, many of those from the launch or even head start, and I don't really remember an MMO launching with such little variety of content (except Dark and Light) and with such ongoing server issues. Most crashes in other MMOs while annoying, had you playing the game again 10-20mins later, unlike STO where it is hours later.

Lack of PvE content on Klingons. This is a well known issue, I've played my Klingon up to high Captain rank and just can't stand to do it anymore, you either run PvP where the queues can take ages (lately I've seen 100+ feds queued and only like 12 klingons) to get a game going and even then half the time you are the only one there, plus it is very repetitive and not really that fun or competitive. Or you run PvE Nebula missions, kill 14 waves 3 times to get 400 skill points which isn't much. We should get more variety of PvE missions as it will break up the grind a bit more.

Lack of PvP competition and variety. Now the same sort of PvP queues from Warhammer Online were fun because they actually required skill and teamwork to actually earn a substantial reward and also had a variety of maps with different modes as well as different ones at each tier. STO has the same reward basically for winning or losing thus most people don't try to win but instead try to end the game as fast as possible, and the matches are the same at every tier, just the different ships. There are also no ladders/competitions.

Lack of Crafting. I'm not usually a major crafting, but do it when I get burnt out from grinding too much or PvPing too much, it gives me a break and lets me do something different, as well as provide for my guild. Crafting in STO pretty much doesn't exist.

What I'd really like to see are the following suggestions:

More differentiation in PvE quests and more of them for both sides. This would mean that there are different quests other then kill the enemy or fix these things. I would think something more of an adventure, unknown enemies, a mysterious signal that you are to investigate, totally different looking worlds. I'd also like to see better chains of quests like if you find a mining operation under attack, then you find out that they are also after a transport and go to rescue it, then getting attacked at another system where the refinery is. Each part broken up so it doesn't impact on casual players time, but still allows for long interesting quests.

A larger variety of ships for each class/tier. Whether that is differences in just the skin/model or if you add slight differences, it tends to be annoying when you see the same exact ships over and over and over, just like other MMOs where everyone looks the same and does everything the same.

More PvP maps and scenarios. Having scenarios like assaulting a fortified position or even just different looking maps. A variety will stop people getting bored with it as quick, especially as it is a primary means for leveling up on Klingons and can be on Federation.

Fix the PvP queue system. I don't know why the hell it hasn't been done yet, but geez it couldn't be hard in there to add something that once someone joins a match they get booted from all their queues. It should had been this way from the start, someone really dropped the ball.

Conquest RvR or RvRvE sectors. Basically sectors that are open PvP between the different factions, and even the possibility of PvE factions also participating. You'd basically capture system which will allow you to build defenses and gain bonuses from. Conquering a whole sector gives a large bonus and reward to participants, and conquering them all results in a large reward and a reset period. It'd give us more to do at end game and isn't compulsory for everyone, so don't say you don't want it carebears as it doesn't impact you at all.

Better & more end game content. There isn't anything to do at end game except PvE, give people some epic or extremely hard fleet actions/raids, and or just more overall content for people to do like conquest I said above.

Make a more in depth crafting system for both sides that allows us to at least grind up levels in crafting, create generic goods while having chances to make green/blue etc (not a large chance or anything so it doesn't flood the markets but give crafters something that can use or sell).

I think STO will go the way of AoC. It is lacking a load of content, still suffers crashes with long downtimes, is extremely repetitive, has no skill involved, lets you level insanely fast and gives you nothing to do at the end once you reach there. A hardcore gamer will hit max level in a week or 2 (one without a job/life) and most others will within a month or 2. There is too much to fix and I doubt Cryptic ever will, they've hyped the game enough for Star Trek fans to buy in quick and for people to get life time subs, they've made their money and will likely not do much on the 45 day patch and likely nothing beyond it.

I love how people like OP are so sure about themselves. Cryptic won't do much with 45 day patch and do nothing beyond that? really?

I hope they do, but based on their previous MMOs I doubt it. Why haven't they released some of it before the 30 days first month is up? If they did people would likely stay longer to see more content and to go through the content provided, but no they want to wait till part way through the second month, holding their carrot on the stick to get ever more subscriptions.

I've no doubt they'll be fixing some stuff and providing some more content for Klingons (as everyone hopes), but they will unlikely provide most of what I've said, like Conquest PvP, more end game content, proper crafting, more ships per tier/officer type, etc. While it would add loads to the game, it would also take quite a bit of work, so I don't see it happening anytime soon.

Many are leaving at the end of this month, so you will not experience as much lag/queues when you login after that period, Cryptic will likely say they fixed it but not really. There are plenty of other MMOs coming out this year, many space based and covering other popular IPs, so don't expect many to stay in STO for the long term, if not even past the end of this first month.

Like I said, I've played Champions Online and City of Heroes/Villains. All those lifetime sub people will be regretting it sooner or later.

Why would we regret spending the 200 odd bucks? Hell, that's a good night out. If you can't shrug it off if it goes bad, you shouldn't have made the investment in the first place. Its not like HAHA lifetimers you got scaaammed, lose your money, haw haw, now you can't buy anything EVAR!

Troll more? Some people wouldn't like a game dying or not having enough content to keep them going long enough to cover the cost of their subscription. Not everyone has a lot of money spare to spend. I got a few weeks out of the game, which I get out of some games at the same cost, though it wasn't as good as those other games, I still got my monies worth, I just won't likely be putting in more money as it'll be a waste. I myself haven't got a lifetime sub so it doesn't effect me.

Man...OP...I really wish to have your Future telling Crystal ball... all these "they will this and won't do that etc" sounds melodramatic...

Did your girlfriend leave you recently? You sound very insecure.

Know that nothing is certain, but also know that things in an MMO can only get better as it evolves with time, and time is not an issue because time will pass anyways whether Cryptic does something to improve the game or not.

So since this is a business and they have every interest to keep their customers, do you really think that they are going to let time pass by without doing anything or are they more likely to actually bring forth improvements to the game and hopefully attract even more people in to it and make more money?

If you were in their place what would you do? I am guessing the latter, because by your post even if melodramatic, it does seem like you are a smart lad anyways.

So...cheer up, have a couple of beers, smoke a cigar, make some love, whatever rocks your boat, make a fed character in the mean time, do some Missions, to break from the Repetition of PvP and when the new content for the Klingons comes, jump back in to it fresh and excited.

Game is fun, this is what counts but how you play it, is your responsibility not Cryptic's.
