To those of you leaving I say...thank you

I am sure this is not going to be a popular opinion for Cryptic since subscribers equal dollars, but as a player of this and many MMOs before it, I say thank you to the people who are leaving in a huff. As I have stated in many other posts, people today have zero patience. They want everything right now and expect companies to give them something they feel they deserve. But as with real life, there are disappointments. There are no paticipation trophies here.

Since the birth of MMOs we fans have learned how a launch goes, how a game will progress and evolve and how to form our own communities within the games where we can get maximum enjoyment in a place where we will be spending a large chunk of our time. Then came WoW and a larger portion of the populace was introduced to the MMO genre. This has diluted the once strong, helpful, courtious communities and turned MMO forums and in game chats into a contest to see who can be the most offensive, racist, immature or self serving. Every launch since WoW has been the same with the forums blowing up over every miniscule issue because some players feel that every launch should be their own personal golden ticket into exactly the experience that they want. But in reality, it isnt the experience they want, they just want one more forum to spout off and generate attention.

Personally I like this game. It has alot of potential. As with every other launch there are issues, but I am a patient person who understands the complexity of what goes into an MMO. I hope as time goes on I develop friends in game and find people to play with who will make my gaming experience more fulfilling. This is why I hope more of you leave. Thin out the herd and cut through the BS so that we, the people enjoying the game, can play unimpeded.

So I say farewell to the whiny, self centered, impatient, instant gratification junkies with ship names like the USS PWNZOR and those that spout racist comments in chat. Those that fill the chat box with ridiculous tirades that sound like some kid off their meds. Those that fly into your zone and rush to steal every resource and follow you around a star base spraying you with the fire extinguisher. WoW will gladly have you back, AoC has plenty of room for your kind. The faster you move on to your next diversion the quicker we will be able to help forge a great gaming experience in the months to come.

Why do you assume that the people leaving are the "whiny, self centered, impatient, instant gratification junkies with ship names like the USS PWNZOR and those that spout racist comments in chat"?

Those people tend to stick around a few more months until their griefing becomes boring.

cool story, since many people leaving=many subscribers lost=quite a few less money=less focus on development=the game stays as crappy as it is....makes perfect sense to me

Makes perfect sense. More people will join who are serious about the game. As the dregs leave, more mature people will come when the experience is more refined. Also, to the above post, those are the people who are leaving and they make the biggest impact on newcomers. They are the vocal minority who fill the boards with their incessant whining. It is very off putting for people coming in for the first time. Look at AoC for instance...

a small dedicated core of players is certainly a good thing for the active playerbase, but NOT for the company running the game...the company would rather have 1 million flaming player, instead of 200k loyal people

secondly I honestly doubt that in the special case of STO the people claiming that they are not satisfied with the game are the minority, I REALLY doubt it this time and I think/fear in 15 days Cryptic will see the results:(

What? That logic doesnt even make sense. IF people leave more mature people will come? Thats not the case.

Are the "dregs" as you call them, going over to the "refined" peoples houses and saying, " Hey, I quit, here's my copy of STO and my stuff! "

Im sure people will filter in from time to time to try STO. But people leaving is people leaving. Period.

And people leaving, no matter what type of people they are, means less money for Cryptic. Which means less resources to further develop the game. Which means less focus, less patches, less future content.

If there is a mass exodus because of the lack of content (and there IS a lack of content), then I doubt you may even see an expansion to the game.

what do you want people to do??? you say this game has alot of potential i agree with you but it's not here yet and theres no telling when it will get here ...so right now when you hit the Admiral rank you've basically beaten the game and your telling everyone to just keep paying out the money for a game that has nothing more to offer players..

well i'm very glade to hear how rich you are but most people including myself are not and we can't affored to keep putting the money out for a game that isn't putting out ways for players to have some kind of meaningful / active / productive in game experiences...that doesn't sound like to much to ask from a subscription pay MMO and if it is then thats the games problem not the players....

Those people who would be serious about this game have already joined and either fallen in love with it or quit. Anyone who was interested in the game has already tried it out or read a review and made a decision. A magic vacuum is not created by people leaving. The only vacuum is financial.

And another thing. The people that are leaving are not the immature people. I'm sure that there are mature and immature people on both sides. You're post proves that. It's quite childish to think that (insert your opinion) is the only mature one when there are plenty of valid reasons that a logical person would discontinue playing this game indefinitely.

I feel bad that people are leaving.

I hope they weren't expecting too much out of the 1st month of a new MMO game even if it is a 3rd attempt by a superhero based company.

I hope they were following the details pre-launch, about what kind of game it was and what the content was all about (Lord knows how much we all spoke about content, Klingon equal rights, ground combat, just a few launch ships etc.).

I hope they were all reading and researching prior to purchasing.

Usually the first model of any brand, has its faults.

It's the subsequent years that determines wether it was a worthy product or not.

There are too many who want this game to succeed, regardless of those that leave with a door slam, instead of just a quiet exit.

They will eventually come back in about 6 months.

So it really isn't a goodbye, it is more, til we meet again.

    Cool story bro.

Thanks for wasting as much time and forum space as the people who post "im quitting". We all appreciate it and are somehow, in some small way, enriched by your equally whinny attitude.

Also a special thank you for paying Cryptic more and more money to encourage them to continue to release sub par products since they get away with it and people like you pay them anyway.

    Hello,

Not everyone will like the game that much is a given. However you do find people that franky no game in world would have ever meet what they expected. I am sure they will join the next one that goes along and be just as upset with it.

You also find a class of player that puzzles me one that not only did not like the game but felt he was personally let down by it. As if he was robbed of his cash and made to play the game. He still plays if but then posts on the boards how much he hates it. Well come next month I can only hope all those players are gone.

you would probably fit the bill nicely.

I have a feeling the trolls are spamming the report button on you, all the while they saying you are the real problem, not the game. Cryptic deserves that kind of company.

Hope you didn't think this was the end of the game, but only the beginning.

With "constructive" feedback on what you like, or don't like, how is Cryptic supposed to know what your particular tastes are?

Not meaning "you", just meaning anyone that reads this post.

Be a voice and explain what you would like to see in game, how and what should be changed, and allow for the time it takes to sell it to the board and implement the idea.

    There is a process.

No doubt. i can see them frantically hitting the button. But like you i dont really care i only speak the truth as i see it. If that does not fit their gaming view Oh well.

If we left the game up to the rabid fanbois and cryptic with no screaming foul we would all be sitting playing pac man right now.

So you're making a hugley innacurate and infactual claim that new players just listen to the comments of others who don't like the game. No doubt the very same people who are incapable in your eyes of formulating their own opinion and need someone to point it out to them. Wrong.

AOC got panned because it launched too early, wasn't polished, was lacking in content, and had next to nothing as far as an end game goes. Do you see a similarity there with those points or do you need someone with an opinion of this game to let you know what that game is similar to? I'll give you a hint, you don't have to look too far

Whether you actually like them as people or not, they WERE paying customers, and their money WAS funding the development of new content for YOU to play. But now it isnt. Every time a person quits, thats less money for Cryptic to spend on YOUR new content. Every time a person cancels their sub, it hurts YOUR game, whether you can comprehend that or not.
