Feedback for Cryptic:
Just one glaring flaw that made me think...
No respec option when skill points were unlimited, I can understand. What would be the true point outside of tiered min-maxing? Changing the skill point system a short time before launch though without having the infrastructure in game to support it? That I can't understand.
Sweeping changes shortly before launch seem to be a modus operandi for Cryptic. In this particular case, it reeks of incompetence and a lack of forethought. Having skills in the tree that serve absolutely no purpose outside of leveling up? That's another thing I can't understand, especially when leveling is such a speedy process. The skill systemshould have been, and still should be, modified to reflect the 'actual' game, not some fantasy game that was tossed out a week or two before launch.
Not having a true ability at this point to experiment without being forced to wait until respecs come around has pretty much killed the game for me at this point. It also makes me wonder how much thought is actually put into the game or if it is being developed by wafflers and procrastinators. It all just doesn't seem very professional.
I really tried to like STO, I really did, but in the end I couldn't get around the glaring flaws as it game to business practices and some of the nit-picky things about game design that have no hope of changing anyway (see also: heavily instanced design, but those things have been gone over ad infinitum).
Best of luck to you, Cryptic. Good luck on the 'unannounced MMO' coming no doubt around the corner. Deal enough cards and maybe eventually you hit something big. Maybe this is it regardless of my opinion. But maybe, sometimes, you just end up folding.
(P.S. To all you other folks reading that will claim the game is great? Your opinion's great too. I'm an attention *****? Not really as I won't be checking back, thanks for thinking of me though. Can you have my stuff? If you can figure out my phone number, call me, convince me to bore myself to tears by logging on, then sure, you can. Think it's a 'cool story bro'? Glad I could entertain. TL;DR? Not my problem. And to any other fancy little Internet meme? I still don't care. Enjoy STO and hopefully y'all can get more out of it than I could!)
